Solid souls-like game with some music that surprised me and actually made some moments feel pretty epic, especially at the end of each boss's area and the final boss itself.

Awesome game! Wish it was longer! Big Zelda (top down) vibes! Gameplay is very basic, no deep builds of statistics. Simple but very effective.

Difficult, but not punishing. Excellent gameplay, good dopamine feedback, fun to explore, and I couldn't stop until I'd done everything.

The characters' premise fits my needs of perspective.
This might not mean anything, and I apologize if this isn't misleading.
I don't leave bad reviews, all efforts are a perfect score.

I really dislike steam review being so binary, there's sometimes more to say than "do I want to hurt this game or not". Death's Door is one of thos games I was interested in because it was supposed to be Zelda-inspired, exactly like Tunic was, only for it to be very artifically Zelda-like, exactly like Tunic was. There's something ironic that both those games also try to loosely borrow dodge based Dark Souls combat with pretty mild results only for them to be compared to the other because one did meta puzzles and not the other.
So Death's Door is another brick in the wall of Zelda inspired games removing exploration from their formula, this time for a more combat oriented game. I guess maybe it's hard to blame anybody for doing this because Dark Souls have become obsessively popular in a way that is obsessed specifically by the fight against Artorias and I get it, that was an amazing moment, a very iconic fight but that was the result of much more than pressing roll to dodge the pattern, it also had slow and carefull exploration. To be entirely fair to Death's Door, because it's much moor conventional in its structure than Tunic was it's also way better balanced. The map themselves are pretty interesting, isometric view is usually disliked because it creates confusing perspectives but it works well in creating environement that looks more complex than it is. This makes the few dungeons in the game and the two main hub zones interesting to move arround, they still feel maze-like even when you already know them.
What's more characteristic of Death's Door is the combat, to the point it's probably better to approach it as an action game. The different tool you get to progress into the game can also be used to deal with ennemies and you get after clearing gauntlet sequences, so really clear this is where the main appeal is and everything else is a bonus. I don't want to talk too bad about it because ultimately it simple but it does work, but It would be hard to say anything better about it either. Any basic ennemy in this game does fight back enough so you have to engage with them instead of just mashing sword slashes into their face but they won't also do anything extremly complicated. While the result in pretty mild for anybody that have enough experience with that type of game I'm kinda glad it's not going out of its way to be harder for the sake of being harder, pushing more challenging stuff into achievement and letting superplay do its own thing. The main reason for that is because most of the fights, or even most of the game to be honest, are closed off arena with waves of ennemies that you have to beat to progress, to the point where when you get to actually pretty cool bosses could be tired of fighting stuff already.
Given what you want to play this for, this might either be cool little action game with funny crows but also can get tiring real fast if you were expecting something slower paced - it takes a good hour or two fighting stuff before getting to the first dungeon in the game. And that would be a shame, there's a lot to like about this of silly overworked crows quitting their job.

This game is like Tunic but more focused on the combat than the puzzles.

I didn't do everything in the game but I did do a lot of the things and it was enjoyable the whole way through. It's got great style, super chill, even when the fights are tough. There's a decent amount of variety to the combat. It's got a great sense of humour throughout. The different areas feel really distinct and unique. It's hard not to recommend if you like this kind of thing.
Crows.
