Dicey Dungeons is charming, fun, and challenging. I love a game that requires me to actively learn and face challenging opponents to improve my strategy. I also love that the amount of content is just right, its as short or as long as you want it to be, both the main story and the "post-game" are really fun and both have good amount of content.

A game that I feel is pretty good if you love numbers (and a bit of gambling with one of the characters that you can choose from). The main critique I have is the elimination round game modes. Losing because you are handed with a bad hand from the start and you cannot make it good enough during your run means that you'll lose to a lot more rng and cannot combat to fix it. On top of that, everyone else has upgraded stats, so it's like the "tutorial for the character" round, but you are worse and the enemy is better. Not good design. I like most things about this game though. If you like more relaxed games, this is definitely a good time. The characters are nice, most of the game modes are balanced to where you can do multiple strategies and they are not terrible, their are a lot of achievements to collect with some being pretty challenging, and the developers are great for adding actual mods as updates to the game, so there are now two different campaigns that you can choose from instead of having to stick to the main one. My rating for this game will be a solid 8/10. Thanks for reading my opinion.

I bought this game purely because it was made by Terry Cavanagh. I had been away from single player video games for several years, and I knew I enjoyed his previous games, so I looked up what he had made and bought it and played it. I very much enjoyed it, in particular the playstyle of the witch character. When I unlocked the witch, I played through all her levels and then the rest of the game wasn't quite as good, but excellent, well worth the time.

I've 100%'ed this game twice (once on mobile, once on Steam) and I enjoyed every moment of it. This game has so many amazing qualities, including the artstyle, characters, plot, challenges, and overall gameplay, it's a great choice (especially when on sale!) I'd also like to claim the title of #1 Jester fan. I <3 Jester

Short summary: It's actually a Min-Max Puzzle game, not a traditional RPG. If you don't sweat out every single move you'll end up frustrated. If you do Min-Max it can be rewarding and thrilling. Longer review: The game presents itself as a Rougelike RPG with an emphasis on RNG. But coming at the game with this mindset will result in frustration. It's ultimately a Min-Max Puzzle RPG, challenging the player to choose the perfectly optimal move every single round with every single enemy. Even on "Relaxed Mode" players need to be as sweaty as possible with every single enemy, as a Floor 1 Level 1 enemy can bring you down to 5% health after a few unlucky dice rolls. The same applies to all choices about equipment, shops, and healing items. All must be chosen in the perfectly optimal way to prevent an abrupt gameover if an unassuming enemy catches you offsides. Inherently there will be some frustration over a lucky run suddenly dying to a pair of bad dice rolls. If that type of hardcore RNG difficulty makes you rage this might be a bad match for you. But if you embrace the fact that you're on a knife's edge every single move you can start thinking seriously about Min-Max strategy. Then your wins over even basic enemies feel more rewarding as they're so hard fought. The music is great, as are the visuals and sound effects. The cartoony aesthetic lulled me into a false sense of security that this game could be casual or simple. In fact it's deeply challenging, and can't even be called "challenging but fair" since the randomness of the dice adds inherent chaos. But when you do win the victory is all the sweeter. I think this style of gameplay might be niche to those with the min-max mindset. But it's absolutely worth picking up during a sale for anyone to give a try.

Such a fun, simple and well crafted little RPG. Easy to pick up and play, silly themes and characters, and can also provide a real challenge. Well worth the money and time :)

The game is definitely enjoyable. Lots of interesting combos with dice and planning each turn can make it engaging as well as a game that requires some actual thinking. HOWEVER, the game is (obviously) quite RNG heavy which can lead to it becoming exceedingly difficult or annoying, especially with certain characters. I found myself getting frustrated at times because of this. There are of course mechanics and strategies to mitigate some of that RNG and push things more in your favor, but failing a run due to something completely outside my control doesn't always feel great. Overall I consider it pretty good. But not quite "great". It's got a charming aesthetic and nice music. Deep enough gameplay and characters to seek your teeth into. And overall is solid. Not incredible, but solid. Also since I went for getting all the achievements, I was getting VERY frustrated when trying to snag the last few I needed so that probably soured my opinion a bit haha. It does however support mods which definitely open up a lot of extra possibilities and extra replayability with this game which always gets a huge thumbs up from me!

Dicey Dungeons has a criminally underrated soundtrack that alone is responsible for making me want to play it. Fun game, too. It does rely quite heavily on the RNG side, but some classes rely on it less so than others. Runs don't take very long to complete as well, which is great.

Deceptively simple at first, but tons of content and different types of challenges. And an amazing soundtrack. Sometimes I just wait in battle to keep the music going.

Too little enemy/build variety for me to be on board and this game wants you to play so MUCH of it. The game being reliant on ONLY dice makes this game wildly more random than other roguelikes to where victory doesn't even feel good. I will relent the game's charming and holy smokes, that soundtrack is INSANE. This game might as well be a funk jazz album in a trenchcoat.
