Game worked great back on the Oculus Rift CV1. Never finished it though so now years later I am back with a Oculus (or I guess now Meta) Quest 2... Not so great... lol
First off hands point up so to point your weapon straight you are pointing almost straight down and to point down you are gonna have to have alien wrist joints! Luckily going into SteamVR settings and controller settings I noticed a few people already made custom controller settings for this game and the Quest 2 so I chose one and problem gone! Well one problem...
Now I have issue where the quick menu you need to use to access weapons, tools, food, and water is waaaaaaay too close and bigger than my field of view and it is only open for a second unless I have my arms spread wide so hands no where in view I can't select anything as it will just auto grab whatever is where my hand is when menu pops up... Still have not figured out how to fix that...
I am too tall... In my base my head is through the ceiling in the cave areas as I am a foot or two too tall... SteamVR seems to have gotten rid of the height adjustment setting sooooo.... hummm.... I read I can change it with 3rd party software that is free and gives back many settings.
At one point my hands fused together! I could not separate my hands! Had to quit game and reload. Looked up issue and others had it too and no idea how to fix it other than quit and reload.
Finally I am able to play and got through the portal and had to fight a critter with the worse weapon... Trying to change gave me the too close menu and I kept getting water or a burger as it just popped up for a second and gone from being too close. Erg... Finally got a different weapon and didn't die... Critter did!
Walked to a cave as I think my destination is that way... there are distance numbers in meters that countdown as i am getting close. Went into cave and had a 2 min load where everything freezes and glitches until it loads new area. I have a 12 core Ryzen 5900, 64 GB RAM, 3070 video card (was 1080 when played on Rift), and it's loading off a M.2 SSD drive that transfers at 3,600MB/s which is waaaaaay faster than my old SSD which did just 600MB/s when I was playing on Rift so one would hope the load times would be a bit quicker than a min or two every few min of walking around.
I arrived at the new section and walked a couple of steps and then somehow got stuck and could not walk anymore. Zero response from walking. I can look around and turn, but not walk. I think I got stuck on a piece of grass as others complain about randomly getting stuck in the environment. I played with settings and still not walking when my headset said low power and shutoff. Erg... I had headset plugged in, but apparently the USB outlet I plugged into was off so it was not charging as I played.
So played for 2 hours and only actually played for 2 min as rest was trying to make the game work... lol I remember it being more fun...
If you have patience and get the quirks worked out it is probably fun enough... If you want it to just work... Might want to skip this one as no updates since Feb 2020 which explains why Quest 2 needed community controller files.
I'll still play it as want to finish the game, but I can't recommend it anymore. I might give up too if I can't get the bugs worked out.
