Great sandbox game with lots of depth, similar to Escape Velocity of old.
There aren't any obvious quick shortcuts to go all out, has a decent grind for money, lots of customization options and career choices.
The only thing I miss in it it's some kind of campaign or story mission to make it more engaging to see it through to the end.

I actually enjoyed the game for quite a while, yet the "end" pissed me off SO MUCH that all I remember when I think of Star Valor is my anger. WTF did you do, game?
In the last mission that Sam gives you, you get a choice. Basically, the game tells you NOTHING about what is coming but you can tell your dumb buddy that "Yo mah bro I'm gunna be a lone wolf" or "Something something scoundrel". Whatever, it explains nothing and so I thought yearh I don't want this annoying Sam to possibly permanently be in a fleet with me, so I choose lone wolf.
Well, that royally effs your game because now reputation is LOCKED for important factions, so you can't really play anymore as you wish. WHY? This is such a stupid option. Even if it warned you that by making a choice you'll permanently eff your savegame it would be stupid because what good reason is there to lock rep up just because I talked to an annoying buddy of mine? NONE! THAT'S RIGHT, NONE!
A minor annoyance that I would have gladly glossed over what I found a fairly enjoyable game (up until it killed my savegame and I won't play anymore) is that QoL often really sucks. I can't search for a specific weapon, I can't filter my huge base inventory. Why yes I'm a hoarder, judge me if you like. But I like to have a huge stash of different weapons -- luckily the game does not limit station size, which I LOVE. But finding anything is a real pain, it is very unorganized (the sort order isn't even clear to me).
Also the Trader Codex 3.0 can't be looked into (like a table of visited stations), I have no idea it seems to record old data or something but the stations it shows as having an item do not have it. That also sucks, trading would be a fun mechanic but it pretty impossible. Maybe it only shows where an item can be sold? Then it's useless. Why does it not record ship inventory as well? It is annoying to hunt for specific rare equipment like the Large Miner Reactor.
I liked the mining, I wish it had a bit more depth.
I hated fleets, hated them SO MUCH, the AI is just so dang stupid. Even collateral splash damage (purple "Peacemaker" in both x8 Hephaestus hardpoints for the lulz) damages your allies which then become hostile. Very annoying. Generally the AI is super duper stupid, enemies switch between attacking and fleeing so they become "locked" going back and forth when you're just the right distance from them.
Also I really don't understand the rarity of some elements. Like Silicon, which is super valuable. Do you know what silicon is? It is LITERALLY SAND. There's a ton in the universe. If it's so rare, just change the name to something that is actually rare. And why do I not need silicon to manufacture microchips? Seems like it's the most important ingredient. Instead that's copper, smh.
I don't know, man. This has a lot of promise but it seems the dev is focusing now on the DLC instead of polishing up the base game and giving it some much-needed QoL improvements. Yes, that's not sexy. Yes, it won't bring revenue. But, dude.
All of this and I would still give it thumbs up if it were not for that ridiculous stupid ending which locks your reputation. This is the absolutely dumbest thing ever. WHY WHY WHY
Edit: And oh my goodness what a royal pain it is to transfer items from one starship to another, especially if you have a huge weapons stash. They all go into the huge "pool" and since you cannot filter or search there, it is a painstaking process to find them all again to equip them into your new ship. Why can't I search, filter, and sort my weapons stash? This would be such a huge QoL improvement: Give me all missiles which have homing capability with space 4 or less, sort by DPM descending. That would be AMAZING.

Underwhelming. Endless Sky is better and free. Yet another bland indie title that over promised and under-delivered.

Controls are awful.
Example: you put a gunner in a turret then he shoots an ally because a fast pirate flies by. No, you can't issue hold fire. You'd have to remove the gunner to stop shooting.
Example 2: mining drones force you to target an asteroid to launch despite having "auto targeting" for drones.
Weapon balance is awful.
I am not quite sure what the trigger is for anything going "red". Pirates are often yellow and my gunners refuse to engage.
Missiles that track will run into allies rather than reacquiring a new hostile target or detonating immediately if no valid targets are in range. I shouldn't have to point this out as being stupid.

Really good entry point for space-opras, never thought i'm gona like this type of games but this is perfect for me. 8/10
While you play it is good idea to listen to some dark-ambient music in the background, the feeling of exploration of deep space is super-awesomo :D

I would like to give this a positive review, but after a while you realize that there's not really an end game or anything to aspire once to once you have reached that point. It's okay if you just want to play a casual space shooter and blow up some ships. but outside of that this game feels very unfinished and the dev is releasing DLC for more money. I'm just not a fan of that business model of releasing minimum viable products.

Rating: 8.2
Gameplay: Sandbox done right.
Story: Good, your brother is Sam Holo lol
Difficulty: Harder then NMS but it's easy to pick up, fun and hard to master
Graphics: 3d, top down and crude ships but the game is pretty like most space games.
Play Time: Endless
Price: Worth it, it's a steal on sale.
Bugs: None
Audience: Everyone
Grind: Multiple leveling systems, average economy structure and a lot of exploration
Misc: There are better for the genre. This game is a good break from it and should only be picked up if you love the genre or wish to get into the genre. I updated my review because it impressed me late game with the expanding universe.

Really Disappointed
I wait over two years for this game to get any kind of update to have any actual content. And now i just saw that the basebuilding dlc will be a paid DLC and we still don't have any actual content to play like faction wars. Somehow the base game doubled in price also???
This game is just switching and gearing up 3-4 ships in 15 hours to than have nothing to do besides killing enemies with an abysmal ai you outclass with your op gear anyway.
There is nothing more than flying throu random maps to do the same stuff over and over again without any reason (for what do you need ressources anymore when your fully geard).
There is no suspense, no story, no coherent map. Just emptiness to fly through.
