This was going to be me and my fiancé's new co-op game. We thought it looked like a substitute for The Forest and since we really enjoyed that game we figured this would be right up our alley. And it probably would have been if it had worked as intended. Can't start a Story multiplayer without doing the Tutorial. Alright so we each go and do the Tutorial. The game crashes at the end of the cutscene that finishes the Tutorial. Got the achievement for having finished it, but the game doesn't recognize that we've done it so we have to do it all over again. That cutscene causing the game to crash is a known issue for THE PAST FIVE YEARS according to Reddit. Save yourself the trouble and don't watch the cutscene, hold space bar instead and it'll skip and the game miraculously won't crash. Finally got into the game. The menus are wonky as hell even having done the tutorial twice now. For some reason can't build walls without having a frame and the only available frames early game are square ones. I'd like to not have a bunch of sticks in the middle of my camp, thanks. That's a minor annoyance though, that I figured I'd get past once I got deeper into the game and unlocked more stuff. What was less of a minor annoyance was the sound bug, once again an issue KNOWN FOR YEARS, where a boom like a gunshot would go off every now and then, as often as every couple minutes. It would scare the shit out of both of us whenever it happened and it would disrupt whatever we were doing, whether it was talking on the walkie, or crafting, or hunting, or building. You have to inspect your body every now and then for wounds or leeches, because for some reason Jake can't tell that he's injured unless he's looking at the wound. This means many cases of accidental blood loss and infection. The only indication that something might be up is a magnifying glass icon above your health bar. No notif, no sound, not even a verbal reaction from Jake himself. Wth is this dude's pain threshold?! Last patch was posted in 2024. The devs seem to have fully moved on to their next game and forgotten this one exists. The bugs will most likely never be fixed. Unplayable when all you do is jump out of your chair every 2-3 minutes when the boom goes off.

This game is BRUTAL, easily the most difficult survival game I've come across. You start with nothing, no knife, no map, no food, no anything and even when you do find a map, they don't show you where you are on it. Probably the most realistic one considering all the s**t that can happen to you. It's super satisfying and starts to get fun once you figure a bunch of things out, but oh my, be prepared to die and restart this game and lose count of how many times you've restarted it. Very recommended though!

[Gameplay] 🕹️ This game is all about realistic survival. You won't find many easy buttons here. You need to gather everything: sticks, rocks, plants, and even hunt animals. You'll learn to make fires, build simple shelters, and craft tools from scratch. What's cool is how detailed your health is – you have to check your body for cuts, worms, and even what nutrients you're missing. Eating the wrong thing or getting a small cut can lead to big problems. It's tough, but very rewarding when you figure things out. You can play alone or with friends in co-op mode. [Graphics] 🖼️ The game looks really good, making the Amazon rainforest feel alive and detailed. The plants, trees, and animals are well-made, which helps you feel like you're really there. The lighting and shadows add a lot to the atmosphere, making the jungle feel beautiful but also very dangerous. It's a visually immersive experience. [Audio]👂 The sounds in "Green Hell" are a big part of the game. You'll constantly hear the jungle around you: birds, insects, and the rustling of leaves. These sounds are important because they often tell you when danger is near, like a snake or a wild animal. The ambient sounds are amazing, making you feel truly isolated. Some players mention that the sounds of your character's mind breaking can be really unsettling, adding to the stress of survival. [Storytelling] ✒️ There is a story in "Green Hell," even if it's not the main focus for some players. You wake up alone and have to find out what happened to your missing wife. You piece together the mystery by finding clues and talking to her over a radio. It adds a reason to keep going and explore, and many players find the story to be quite interesting and even surprising as it unfolds. [Difficulty] 💪 "Green Hell" is not an easy game. Many players say they die a lot at the beginning. You have to learn many things very quickly, like what plants are safe to eat, how to treat different injuries, and how to stay clean to avoid sickness. It's a game where every mistake can have big consequences. However, once you start learning the ropes and understand how the jungle works, it becomes incredibly rewarding. It's a constant challenge that keeps you on your toes, and successfully surviving feels like a real achievement. There are different difficulty settings, including a "peaceful" mode if you just want to explore without constant threats.

Story doesn't incentivise building shelter beyond a simple bed and campfire, very confusing as where you have to go and unlocking the "good ending" being locked behind skipping the usual story progression element at the end is not a great choice

Basically The Forest but instead of getting killed by mutants you get killed by worms under your skin

Green Hell. Oh boy … where do I even begin? It’s not just ‘hell’ It’s VIP front-row seating in the jungle’s version of a horror comedy! EVERYTHING ... and I mean everything ... wants you dead. It’s like Mother Nature herself woke up and chose violence. One minute you’re fighting off angry locals, the next you’re being gnawed on by some hungry jungle beast, all while your sanity quietly packs its bags and leaves without saying goodbye. But wait ... there’s more! Infections, food poisoning, fevers ... basically the entire WebMD symptom checker in one tropical nightmare. It’s not a game, it’s purgatory with palm trees. Now, I haven’t braved the single-player version yet. I value what little sanity I have left ... but I did dip my toes into multiplayer. Honestly? I prefer it that way. If I’m going down in this leafy apocalypse, I’d rather be screaming in terror together while holding someone’s hand … or at least blaming them when the coconut inevitably knocks me out. :)

Convinced my friend to grab this game since it's on sale. Now? He's out there making sure every hostile tribal/natives had a taste of his bow and arrow. I've created a monster...

An enjoyable but flawed survival experience. While definetly entertaining, I don't feel it reaches its full potential, making me wonder if the effort should've been dedicated to less but more refined gameplay systems, rather than multiple underdeveloped ones with higher audiovisual fidelity. [b]If you're a survival fan curious enough I recommend to get this game on a sale.[/b] I like how nutrition and injuries are handled, but its building system is too grindy to fully enjoy this game as a sandbox in the long run aggravated by the amount of animations tied to basic actions (which you'll get sick of eventually). Playing through the story mode in "Green Hell" difficulty would be the recommended experience for survival fans if it wasn't for the unskippable cutscenes, which makes retrying the story mode drag for longer than it should. The story mode's narrative focus unfortunately failed to engage me enough to care about the characters the way through, but at least its ending didn't leave me dissatisfied. There are some minor complaints, such as the lack of an option to reduce how much the protagonist talks during normal gameplay (he's too vocal about everything) or the skill system not being engaging enough to justify its existance.

There's a good game buried underneath a load of bs. The basic game concept is good, "survive in a harsh jungle environment". The implementation is tedious and obnoxious. You'll spend the majority of your time shuffling things around in your inventory, and manually checking each bodypart for leeches in what could be described as a sort of very simple "mini-game" that you'll do again and again and again. I can't overstate how much time you will spend in your inventory just shuffling things around. The 'insanity'-mechanic is insanely grating. It basically boils down to putting some color-overlays on your screen and looping endless and annoying sound-clips (of which there are just a handful, so you'll hear the same soundclips again and again and again). You'll probably have to follow the main campaign to have any fun, since there's no random map generation and no end-game to the free-form playstyle (you can't get rescued or escape to civilization when playing the free-form non-campaign mode). Also, the fact that enemies can spawn IN YOUR BASE INSIDE YOUR WALLS is a massive oversight imo.
