EDIT: I changed my mind. The game is great! Come join us on Vieneo! I'm glad I stuck with it through the many hurdles (which are outlined below). The game is in essence a flight simulator with a living economy. You can buy land, create colonies, and then set buy/sell orders for commodities, all on a moon far from earth. People can then ferry goods to you (if you set your prices right) and make a profit while you get to maintain your colony. You can also get to orbit and dock with the space station in order to ferry colonists that came over in the FTL ship down to your colony. I've come to appreciate the depth and uniqueness that Rise: The Vieneo Province offers. It’s a game that rewards patience and persistence, and once you get past the initial hurdles, the experience becomes genuinely captivating. There’s something special about being part of this tight-knit community on a distant planet, working together (or competing) in a living, breathing economy. That being said, the game does have issues, which are outlined below. While they can be annoying, they aren't relevant once you get a plane and start ferrying goods. Old Review 09-04-23 ================= This game is very unique. The things that you can do are mesmerizing and makes me feel as if i'm part of this community on a planet light years from earth. You can buy a vehicle, and transport goods from the surface to an orbiting space station. The world itself also has a nice aesthetic to it, but others might find the graphics hard to get used to. Despite this, the game has too many flaws to enjoy it. A couple of Suggestions 1. Remove curbs. I have seen so many new players come in just to crash their starter vehicle then leave never to return. The GPS system in the vehicle is bad enough to where you need to know the layout of the roads otherwise you could get to a dead end trying to head to your destination. I feel like you would retain more players at least for a longer period of time if you just removed the annoying curbs. Also, sometimes you run over invisible curbs while on the road. There are multiple places with this issue. 2. Enhance the GPS system. The GPS system in the car is atrocious. sometimes it will actually guide you down specific roads, but 90 percent of the time it just gives you a heading and a distance. To make it worse, when you finally navigate the maze of roads and get near your destination there are not always markers to indicate where to go to activate the intermedia with the location. A simple large green arrow or something similar could fix this. This is not always the case, some buildings have names printed on them, but not all of them. Edit: Most of the above is still valid, but then i found the zoom buttons for the navigation system and it made trips much easier. It's = and -. [strike]3. Better Tutorials. The in game tutorial is 'fine' for just learning how to drive a car and make some simple money, but it was very buggy for me. Beyond this, this game needs tutorials, for how to make money past driving a cab. Video tutorials would be preferable as the in game tutorial system is very intrusive and annoying. There are "contracts" but they are not explained at all. It doesn't tell you where to go to buy a certain commodity. They have a wiki, but it is not very extensive. Additionally, tutorials on flying the different aircraft would be immensely helpful. I went to the simulator and flew one of the planes, but they don't have a simulator for the "starter" plane so it handled much differently, and it took a while to get the hang of it.[/strike] Edit: While I still think there should be tutorials on planes (or at least one) I have since found the wiki to be very informative. It was more a matter of not knowing what to look for. 4. Lock the head when walking. I get it, you need that visibility when driving/flying, but the movement is so awkward and fidgety. Movement should be a simple thing in a game, no reason to complicate it for sake of simulation. I will continue to play this game. I want to at least start my own colony and dock with the space station. Maybe once I get to experience those things I will change the review, but as of now there are just too many roadblocks stopping you from getting to those really cool things. Therefore, I cannot recommend this game.

OK... this is going to be an interesting one to review. Firstly, Rise: TVP is not for everyone. This should be obvious from the screenshots. It's not pretty, it has a steep learning curve, won't hold your hand and it strives for realism to the point of being quite difficult. It's a very niche game, is what I'm saying here. To a new player, the vast array of mechanics and features contained within the game are overwhelming and largely hidden. There's an insane amount of controls and methods for doing virtually everything and you'll need to spend a fairly good amount of time on the website, in the wiki and talking to long time players in Discord before you start to get a good foothold. My understanding is that improving the new player experience is a focus of the developer but as it stands currently, this is just how it is. If you're not prepared to spend the time required to learn the game, maybe don't buy it at this point. Now, that all said, what Rise does offer for those willing to stick with it is a massive open-world MMO with hardcore flight sim mechanics, alongside an immense variety of activities and features for a player to engage in and the scale of the game is huge. You can drive around cities, provide a taxi service, buy land, own mines and farms, produce goods, trade, dogfight, ferry passengers and prisoners, submit / fulfil contracts, fly around planet-side and, eventually, fly to space. There's also likely more, I just haven't encountered it yet. It offers a strong sense of realism. Never played a flight sim? You're going to have to learn to fly the machines you'll be piloting, or you'll be appearing in the game's newspaper as yet another crash statistic. Log off with your engines running? You're going to be out of fuel when you return. Drive your car too fast and smash into a gutter? You're going to get hurt. Forget to bring a cargo container along for a ride? Don't expect to be able to fit much in the way of goods onto your vehicle. This is a game that pulls no punches, it's not going to punish you harshly for making mistakes but it also won't stop you from making them in the first place. It'll give you room to experiment but it also expects you to play by its rules. It's unique, interesting and well worth the patience and dedication it demands. As for behind the scenes, I've been talking with the developer and lead QA now for most of my time with the game - both of whom are or have been professional pilots, lending to the realism of the flight mechanics - and from what I've come to understand, Rise is a serious passion project, designed, built and constantly updated over about 17 years. The developer and QA are also supportive, engage readily with new players and they give the impression of dedication, I'm fairly certain Rise isn't going away any time soon. Curious but unsure? Try the free version found on the RiseTVP website. Then, if you think it's for you, come back and buy it from Steam to show some support. I genuinely believe this is a great game to the right type of person. If I get as much enjoyment out of it as I do, then I'm sure others out there will too, they just need to find it.

Credit to the Q&A person to try and help me get going in Rise, However I struggled to maintain game time as I was becoming a bored also having an ignorant Q&A person towards the end of my time as well does doesn't go down well with me. Got annoyed that new players were given the E-11 and me asking for an upgrade (Had the A-4), but denied, might be due to an ignorant Q&A All credits to the developer as he is willing to listen to idea's the gamers have to help improve the game. Player driven economy however felt like it was being driven by one person Overall: Game is not to bad, however for the price that I paid and dealing with such ignorant people, I wouldn't purchase this game at all and would say to people that if they want to play then make sure to play the demo instead your saving money otherwise. Such a shame that 1 person had destroyed my gaming experience.

What is Rise? If I had to describe it in a single sentence, it would be this: take Microsoft Flight Simulator, mix in some Elite Dangerous, add in a healthy dose of MMO mechanics, and you'd have something which roughly resembles Rise. Starting out is tough. The tutorial is not fully formed yet and the early-game experience (apartment, car driving) is very much in-flux and WIP. But that stuff is really just a means to an end, and one which the creators are actively working on and improving. The goal is to fly, and luckily with a little direction from the wiki and the devs (who are online constantly helping out) that happens pretty quick and you'll be crashing into stuff in no time at all! To get serious and poetic, Rise is a game of experiences, in my opinion - experiences which I've yet to experience anywhere else. For example, the first time you peek through the clouds and rise up into the lower atmosphere and begin to see the actual curvature of the moon. Surprise, it's not flat like many other games with multiple "maps" that represent ground vs orbit vs deep space (I'm looking at you Empyrion...). Another example: the first time you head into proper orbit and you're rocketing around the moon at incredible speeds trying to use your thrusters, your instruments, your auto-flight computer, and a fair amount of wits and patience to intercept a tiny little orbital station. The whole scenario frankly dwarfs the notion of finding a needle in a haystack. The thing to remember about Rise, and the thing that made me fall in love with it, is that EVERYTHING in this game is to scale, and EVERYTHING is designed from the ground up with realism in mind. Furthermore, there are no loading times as you traverse it. From the ground, through the clouds, to the upper atmosphere, and then farther out into orbit hundreds of kilometers from the surface, ALL OF IT is real-world scale, takes real-world flight times, and you are dealing with real-world physics, sights, and dangers the entire time. It's really something to behold. This is about as far from "arcade space shooter" as you can get. Getting good at going up and down safely without dying really does give you some serious fuzzy feelings. The game has some crazy simulations going on in the background when it comes to flying, the effects of atmospheric changes, orbital mechanics, flight mechanics, etc. Playing NMS or Elite seems like amateur-hour compared to this stuff. I am shocked that this was even possible without a AAA budget. Also, there are numerous MMO mechanics like building and managing towns, mines, farms, populations, an in-game economy, etc. Everything out on the moon is player-made and player-maintained except for the main city, Deois, although I can't speak to a lot of that as I'm just getting to that stage of play after about 50 hours (which I have taken slow, mind you). To wrap things up, I really can't recommend this enough if A.) you are into flight simulators and MMOs, B.) you are patient and are happy to work with the devs as they bring the game into the limelight, and C.) you have a joystick (seriously you'll want one for this, there is no mouse-centric mode yet). DISCLOSURE: I have been writing in the wiki a bunch because I love the world/lore they started and I want to see it grow. I am not compensated in any way by the devs and it's been a labor of fandom! I have become Steam-friends with the devs so I can run ideas off of them. You'll find out pretty quick that these guys play constantly while they work out kinks and refine the experience. Say HI if you jump in and they'll help you get started and are happy to go on at length about just about anything you want to know about. The game is under very active development/maintenance and has regular patches and content updates. There's an official discord and everything that they're in daily.

rise is definitly not your ''flight simulator 20xx'' or ''x-plane (random numbers go here)" this game is a slow burn, you wont start as a pilot doing orbital flights across the moon or anything like that, this game is a career sim first and foremost, you start up as a normal person doing taxi to THEN do flights in a rented plane. This game have been in years of devlopment by just a single guy, he is not superman so you shouldnt expect top tier mechanics in this game like someone that reviewed this game before me, as a brazilian this game is expensive as hell and i do a LOT of research before buying stuff cause you know poor country, gotta make your money count right? the first time that i got in a car and drove around it wasnt hard, you know why? cause i read the damm tutorial, odd right? well not much, nowadays people come into games expecting to all of them having the same mechanics as the games that they previously played, so if you want to have a try on rise please DO read the tutorial, if you dont well i can give you a hand or at least try. you can clearly see that i have at least 136 hours of playtime as of this review, this game has bad graphics and all that jazz that you already know, but this game is just fun for someone who enjoys flying around, if you dont wanna pay for the game you dont have to, just download the demo version and try the game for yourself, also dont worry about joysticks and whatever, i play this game on my keyboard and i almost every day do orbital flights with no problems. i will be probably updating this review as i experience the game further, you dont need me to say it but well, i do suggest that you give it a try.

While the graphics might be a bit outdated, i love the depth and the simulation aspect of it. Both from a flight sim point of view (Joystick very much recommended) as a economic sim point of view. Work your way up to owning your own spacecraft / colonies. Make seamless trips to orbit and back and transport commodities across the moon. Full disclosure: I voluntarily help with development on this game.

This game is one of the unique gaming experiences I had for the last years. But it is obviously not for everyone. Who will like it?

If you are much into space flying/trading simulators like Elite Dangerous, X series etc., and you want to bring it to a next, much more realistic level, this game might be for you.

What is Rise? It is mostly airplane/spaceship simulator placed in future on a moon which is being colonized. If you have some experience in Microsoft Flight Simulator or X-Plane it will help you a lot because this simulator is realistic. Different planes every with its own flight model, some with vertical t/o capability and everything in realistic physics. You will need some piloting skill or you can learn these skills during gameplay. But it's not only about flying in the atmosphere. Some ships will allow you for a suborbital and even orbital flight to the space stations. So basic knowledge of orbital flight is needed as everything is modelled correctly in Newtonian physics. If you have experience in Orbiter or even in Kerbal Space Program it will be very helpful. If not - you will have to learn it.

Now while mentioned simulators only give you possibility to fly your own scenario, Rise also simulates your career. You start as a poor colonist who has to literally drive taxi to earn. Soon you will be able rent a truck and start hauling vehicles or do some basic trading. From that it's very soon to renting first flying vehicle, which will allow you to visit nearby colonies and earn much more on trading. Now I must admit here that car driving might not be very appealing, as the city seems empty without AI traffic, but it really works well for the immersion and also as basic guide before you start to understand how the game mechanics work. At that time you can also use a simulator to get the feel of flying.

As a more endgame activity you can build your own colonies. You will first have to find a good spot which is rich either in some rare materials or fuel ore and then you can build your first mine. You will also need to have a farm to feed the colonists and a town if you want to future refine your ore and basic materials into more valuable stuff. The game is an online MMO and whole economy is player driven. Everyone sets their own prices hoping that other pilots will supply their colonies with stuff they need and buying their products. Nothing is scripted here. People can form alliances or even make some economical wars, for example setting up dumping prices to shut down other enterprises. Unfortunately the player base is small mostly because the game is difficult and requires a lot of effort to get into.

The game interface might be a bit puzzling at first but actually it is pretty effective. Most of the stuff is done either by context menu or by writing in the computer window. Again it gives a lot of immersion. For example if you want to load some stuff to a cargo hold you will have to write something like "1+10" which will mean to put 10 tones into bay 1. I really like that idea because it feels more realistic than just moving some sliders on a menu. There is also so much attention put into little details. For example if you want to build a mine, you will first have to visit a place where you buy the land, then you will have to buy or rent a container which will suit your new project, then you have to visit a company which will put a mine project inside. Then you bring it to your spot and deploy. Next you will have to supply it with needed materials and personnel, or pay others to do it for you. With enough materials you can now order your workers to build certain elements of the mine like extractors, separators, storage buildings etc. It's very fun to see how it grows and how your products affect the global economy. If you for example buy an ATM for your colony, so people can get cash from their account to buy stuff from you, you will have to put some money inside. That is the level of detail involved.

The game itself is more or less a hobby project developed for many years. Therefore, the graphics may look outdated but it's not for the graphics itself why you play the game. And some views, especially sun setting from the orbit are just beautiful. The game even though advertised as in alpha state is fully playable but in the same time still developed. You may be sure it won't be abandoned, because people involved in development also love to play it themselves. They are very open to discussion and any opinions. The game is connected to a discord server and you will spend a lot of time talking with them, learning the stuff and giving your own ideas.

The game is made by people with some real life aviation background and you can really see it. You can do ILS approaches and there is even ATC which will vector you to the airfield. But also the economy model is very realistic with a lot of attention into details. While flying similar routes may seem to get boring quickly it's not, because every flight is different. The plane will behave differently depending on how much cargo and fuel it is carrying. Depending on distance your suborbital flights will look different. You will get better at planing a good and not so very hot re-entry every time. It's so fun to see how your skills in piloting increase and so how does your bank account. As the game is MMO there is no time compression. You will sometimes have to wait for example for a take-off window to a space station and flights may take from few minutes to even few hours. It's designed for hardcore simmers but it's really worth the effort.

One drawback of the game might be the fact that there is no real manual for it and the game is difficult with a steep learning curve. There is a wiki which gives a lot of information but it doesn't explain everything in detail. You will have to ask people about certain things, how they are done and how they work. So you need to be prepared for some serious learning. If you don't like it and just want to get straight into action, the game is not for you, so be aware of that. Fortunately the small community is very helpful and will explain everything to you. If you are in doubt there is a fully playable free demo available. Go ahead and try it. You are only limited by no possibility to build your own colonies, but as I mentioned this is more an endgame activity so you really don't need it at the start. If you get the hang of the game, you can also later buy the full version.

To quickly summarize. Rise is an amazing spaceship/spaceplane simulator focusing mostly on trading and colony management in realistic, player driven economy. The game is difficult but the effort to learn it is well worth it. I highly recommend it to every serious simmer.

I know very little about this game as at least with mouse and keyboard it appears to be unplayable. You start in your apartment with a nice view out the windows. Once you try walking you discover you can't go in a straight line forward. There is a door to your bedroom etc. but I can't find a way to enter it. You also can't go down the hallway. Just click the button in the upper right and it puts you magically in your car. I never found a way to turn on the car or move it. Click the correct button and you go back where you started in your apartment. The only other thing I know is the screen you enter your galactic info (which I incorrectly assumed was just for looks) needs a real email address as it sends you email there. You also I guess need a real handle (your screen name) and password as you need the info to get in the game later. You can't choose pictures I guess just male or female. Referrer leave blank as it apparently needs a real person if not left blank. This game looks totally FUBAR. It says it has been in development 15 years. My guess is that in 15 more years the creator will have gotten old and retired without ever completing it. Don't waste your time on the game. I'm refunding. Speaking of which, in the description it says the game is free during early access. Obviously that is not the case since I had to pay to get the game and now have received a refund. Comments in general are bad so far. It says it released a year ago, so, I guess no longer EA. Comments are not getting better though. Last update was almost three months ago and said OST would be released soon. No sign of that. I suppose it's possible things could get better. It's not looking hopeful though. On sale sometime I may get it again to see if I find any ideas for stories I write or some scenery to include.

One of the worst games on the market right now. The game is in development for 13 years and still is a buggy mess. You get in and out of places by clicking the checkboxes in the menu, controls are not reconfigable, no strafing. Devs think that moving your head and walking around being two separate actions is good. You also can't drive a car for 300 meters and not glitch throug textures. Don't buy it, and if you do - don't play it for more than 2 hours or else you won't be able to refund. By the way, the game has its own page at indiedb, where 20 or so last comments are fake.
