For a simple arcade shooter Q-YO Blaster has some amazing animation and awesome gameplay. It is a relatively short game so you will have to rely on leaderboards and hard achievements after the 30-minute playthrough. Although for only $3 this is definitely underpriced for the quality. I experienced one crash in 2 hours but aside from that, I do not have any gameplay complaints. The developer just needs to adjust how the score is generated and maybe rebalance the difficulty in favor of a game.
I don't think that bullet-hell gameplay needs much explanation. However, there is one interesting mechanic that transforms bullets into power for your abilities. Speaking of powers there are several unlockable weapons with different speed, damage, and area of effect. Selecting between your favorite character and weapon adds some personal playstyle which I really appreciate. The difficulty is moderate but the developer may have added too many extra continues.
There are 16 characters to choose from although the unique traits are based on one of three teams. Still, it is a nice bonus to have so much variety. Characters look very creative and I will enjoy trying to draw them. The game has 8 stages that have absolutely gorgeous backgrounds and visuals effects. Also, the music is super catchy (maybe needed some in the tutorial as well) Is it just me or is there a little bit of Cuphead flavor? 1930 animation + 90th cartoons kind of XD.
Final Thoughts 8/10
Arcade-Shooter is a very oversaturated genre so it is nice to see a game like Q-YO Blaster that brings a higher visual quality with tons of personality. I feel like I paid $3 for a $10 game. Short but very satisfying.

I first played this game only about a week after discovering Parodius, by which Q-Yo was clearly inspired. It's a zany, loony, nothing-but-nonsense shooter, and I love that. What I don't love, however, is the lack of character balance. I'm concerned especially about the movement speeds of those with lower speed ratings.
Let's consider my favorite character, a decapitated and bleeding dog head that shoots eyeballs of death from his gaping maw as he sports a classically bad-ass spiked collar. Man, this dude is metal as Heyll. The problem is that he's too slow, so I really can't play him seriously; this goes for about half the cast. Seriously, everyone in the game should get patched for faster movement, I think. I shouldn't have to be forced into purchasing the in-game speed buff as my first upgrade just to make half the cast playable. And don't even get me started on the panda. That things an absolute joke.
The character unbalance in this game nearly compelled me to leave a negative review, but I've concluded that doing so would grossly misrepresent the great things about this game. I say, give it a shot (no pun intended) when it's on sale if you're into both shmups and characteristically Japanese zaniness. The worst-case scenario is that you decide to refund it after your first play session.

This game is absolutely fantastic! You can play through the entire game in about 40 or so minutes but wow is it ever nice. The pixel art is gorgeous with some animations being so smoothe they remind me of Cuphead. Awesome colors, cool designs on enemies, weapons and characters. Each level was absolutely stunning with the exception of level 7, which was still beautiful but seemed a little too similar to a couple earlier levels. The soundtrack is really good as well with music that gets you pumped up and ready to tear up the skies.
There are many characters to play as and a decent number of enemies with a boss at the end of each of the 8 stages. They bosses are great with the final boss being quite a difficult enemy. I must have continued 5 times on the final boss, and that's one good thing about this game is you can continue any number of times from where you are, after you lost your lives. You lose score so if you are looking to get a high score you will want to practice the levels quite a bit.
I got this for just over a dollar on the Steam Summer sale and it has been worth every penny. Things start out easy, get to be a little tough and by the end you are fighting for your life and dying all over the place, well, me anyways. I HIGHLY recommend this to shmup fans, especially if they love staring at pure eye candy. This works great with the 360 style controller and I would definitely recommend using a controller if one is available.

Beautiful little horizontal scrolling arcade-style shmup, which costs very little money, is very short, and with a story that makes no sense (but probably wasn't meant to).
I finished a playthrough on "easy" mode in about 40 minutes. There are harder modes too, but I'm satisfied with what I've seen already to give this a thumbs-up.
This ranks up there with Taito's "Pu·Li·Ru·La" for weird, absurdist arcade-style games.
Yes, it makes no sense, but it's unrestrained and it's thoroughly enjoying every last bit of madness it can. :)

Horizontal bullet hell with a strange and surreal theme. Various ship and weapon types. Big bosses. Local coop. Gorgeous retro presentation and graphics. Nice audio. Quite challenging and chaotic.

Q-YO is a fun bullet-hell with a variety of characters to play, cool retro styling and a very addictive soundtrack. There is a co-op option and the enemies have reliable patterns and firing. The one negative is the storyline - it might be cute but after trying to read the horrible english phrasing and spelling errors i just skipped it as fasat as I could. Got it on sale and I usually don't care for story in bullet-hell so it doesn't really matter.
FUN CUTE CHEAP BULLET-HELL +++

This game could have been good but decisions regarding gameplay and balancing were made that absolutely baffle me.
Many ships are barely viable as ship speed is very important when avoiding homing rockets.
Enemies get a big health boost on higher difficulties. Thanks to that, you will always feel vastly underpowered. You'll barely be able to destroy some of the stage enemies and boss fights drag on for much longer than they do on Normal difficulty.
You can collect items which let you use different ammunition. If you run out or lose a life, you will use your standard shot again. I don't mind the ammo system but the difference in power between any limited ammo and your standard shot is too great.
Most bosses have a lot of health and choose between random patterns. Some bosses will either be boring as you dodge easy patterns over and over and others will simply be infuriating as you keep getting confronted with bs scenarios that will result in a couple of deaths.
Furthermore, some boss patterns are lucrative while others aren't as you can turn all bullets on screen into gems instantly with the Pulse mechanic. Collecting these allows you to use a Special attack which is far more powerful than your regular attacks. Collecting gems while the gauge is full also allows you to get extends occasionally. Since the bosses use patterns randomly, your resources and the damage you deal essentially rely on that RNG as well.

While I give it a thumbs up, I would be remiss if I did not mention the fact that it's very short (less than 30 minutes) and that it runs at 30fps (GameMaker?). The story is very weird and the cutscenes don't make a lick of sense.
But I enjoyed the effort and passion put into it.
