Basically, roll a bunch of d6's and try to overcome traps and monsters. It's very satisfying to use your various skills to convert a bunch of terrible rolls into a win.
I only have one nitpick: many of the achievements require you to get much of the dlc material. So, if you want to 100% the achievements, you will have to buy not just this game, but also the expansion packs.
