Final Rating: 7.5/10

Gameplay
The objective of Pipes! is to connect various pipe pieces on a grid so that water can flow from one end of the pipeline to the other. Each level presents players with a scrambled network of pipes that need to be rotated and aligned correctly. Players tap the screen to rotate the pipes and connect them, and once all the pipes are linked, water flows, signaling the completion of the level. The early stages are quite easy, serving as a tutorial to introduce players to the mechanics. However, as you progress, the puzzles become more intricate, with larger grids, more complex pipe configurations, and limited move counts or time constraints in some stages. This adds a strategic element to the gameplay, requiring careful planning rather than trial and error. There’s no heavy narrative or character progression here—Pipes! is purely focused on puzzle-solving. The appeal lies in its simplicity, making it perfect for casual players who want to unwind, as well as more serious puzzle fans who enjoy solving intricate problems.
Difficulty and Progression
The difficulty curve in Pipes! is well-paced, with early levels acting as a gentle introduction before gradually ramping up the complexity. By the time players reach the later levels, the grids are larger, and the solutions are far less obvious, requiring multiple rotations and a deeper understanding of how the pipes interconnect. The game does a good job of introducing new challenges at a steady pace, keeping it from feeling repetitive. However, for players who are experienced with puzzle games, the difficulty may never reach a truly challenging level. This balance between accessibility and depth means that Pipes! can appeal to a wide range of players, but it may lack long-term engagement for those seeking a significant challenge.
Controls and User Interface
The controls are simple and intuitive, as expected from a mobile game. Players rotate pipes by tapping on them, and the touchscreen responsiveness is smooth, with no noticeable lag. This makes the gameplay experience fluid, and even in more complex levels, the controls never get in the way of the player’s strategy. The user interface is clean and minimalistic, allowing the puzzle to take center stage. There are no unnecessary distractions, and the menu system is straightforward, making it easy to navigate between levels or retry puzzles. The overall aesthetic is bright and colorful, which adds a relaxing atmosphere to the game without being too flashy.
Graphics and Sound
Pipes! uses a simple, clean visual design that suits its puzzle gameplay. The graphics are bright, with the pipe pieces clearly distinguished from the background. The grid-based design is easy to read, and even the more complex levels maintain a level of clarity that helps players focus on solving the puzzle rather than deciphering what’s on the screen. The sound design is functional but minimal. The game features relaxing background music and subtle sound effects, such as the sound of water flowing when a puzzle is completed. While not particularly memorable, the audio complements the gameplay, creating a soothing environment that aligns with the game’s casual nature.
Monetization and Ads
As a free-to-play mobile game, Pipes! includes ads and optional in-app purchases. After completing certain levels or retrying puzzles, players are occasionally shown ads, which can disrupt the flow of the game. However, the frequency of ads is relatively moderate compared to other free mobile games, and they can be skipped after a few seconds. For players who want an uninterrupted experience, there’s usually an option to pay for an ad-free version of the game. Additionally, in-app purchases allow players to buy hints or remove ads altogether. Hints can be useful in some of the more challenging levels, but they aren’t necessary to complete the game, making the monetization feel optional rather than intrusive.
Replayability and Time Commitment
Pipes! is perfect for short, casual play sessions, as individual puzzles can be completed in just a few minutes. Its simplicity makes it easy to pick up and play at any time, whether you’re waiting in line or looking for a quick mental challenge during a break. The game’s hundreds of levels ensure that there’s plenty of content to keep players busy. However, once you’ve solved a level, there’s little incentive to replay it. The lack of variability in puzzle solutions means that once a level is completed, it doesn’t change on subsequent playthroughs, limiting its replayability. That said, the game’s large number of levels and gradual difficulty increase provide enough content for players to feel like they’re making meaningful progress.
Conclusion
Pipes! is a well-designed, casual puzzle game that offers simple but engaging gameplay. Its intuitive mechanics, combined with a steady increase in difficulty, make it a great choice for both casual players and puzzle fans looking for a relaxing yet stimulating experience. While it may not offer the depth or replayability of more complex puzzle games, its clean design, smooth controls, and large number of levels ensure plenty of entertainment for short play sessions. The monetization model, while present, doesn’t interfere too much with the core gameplay, and the ad frequency is reasonable for a free game. For those who enjoy puzzle games that require logic and spatial thinking, Pipes! is a solid option that’s easy to pick up and enjoy without a significant time commitment. Pros: · Simple, intuitive gameplay with an increasing challenge. · Clean, minimalist design and smooth controls. · Perfect for short, casual play sessions. · Large number of levels to keep players engaged. Cons: · Limited replayability after completing levels. · Ads can disrupt gameplay, though they are not overly intrusive. · Experienced puzzle players may find the difficulty too mild.
Final Rating: 7.5/10
Pipes! delivers a satisfying, relaxing puzzle experience for mobile players. Its simplicity and accessibility make it a great choice for casual gamers, though it may not offer enough depth or challenge for those looking for a more robust puzzle-solving experience.

The levels are too repetitive with basically no increase in difficulty throughout the entire 90 levels, and clicks sometimes just don't register for some reason

AT A GLANCE: 3/5 Stars - Pretty decent game. Fun factor is good, and has a good amount of levels. GAME GENRE: Single Player, Casual, Puzzle, Family Friendly GAME DESCRIPTION: Release Date: Dec. 2017 - Connect the pipes to make a clear path from one end to the other. Faster times receive more stars. KID FRIENDLY: (First know that I am very strict on kid approved material. A game with a standard rating of "PG" I might rate "PG-13". These are my ratings and have nothing to do with standard ratings) I rate this game "G". Nice way for kids to wake up their minds, and a good way for them to develop problem solving skills. ACHIEVEMENTS: 99 Achievements ranging from easy to moderate in obtaining TRADING CARDS: 0 Trading cards PROS: -A lot of achievements -Fun CONS: -The use of the right click button instead of the left click button GAMEPLAY: To change the direction of the pipe you must push the right click button on the mouse not the left. This is a minor issue but still an annoyance. VISUAL EFFECTS: Basic graphics. Nothing great to look at. AUDIO: The music can get annoying after a while, but with a push of the button it can be turned off. No other sound effects except for completing each puzzle. STORYLINE: No storyline. Just the puzzle. REPLAY VALUE: Has some replay value. PROBLEMS/ISSUES: None - Installation went smoothly. No problems with start-up. The game has not froze up, or quit unexpectedly. WORDS FOR DEVELOPERS: Good game. I would suggest to having the left click button on the mouse change the direction of the pipes instead of the right. This is a simple, straightforward puzzle game where you just rotate the pipes to connect all the way from point A to point B. Of course there will be obstacles in place as you progress, making each Level slightly more complicated. There are 90 Levels in total, each Level gives the player a maximum of 3 Stars (depending on the speed you complete the Level), finish all 90 Levels and 3-Star each Level for 100% achievement! The regular price for this mini game is quite steep though. Only recommend on sales!

A simple but fun game based on the classic 1989 Commodore Amiga game Pipe Mania. You have to join the pieces of sewer pipe together before the sewage reaches the point of overflow. Stars are awarded for speed. Easy to complete.

Connect the pipes, from standard bottom left corner to, top right corner. Two runs each level, one to find the route, second to beat the timer. Short and Simple.

I bought this thinking it might be like Lucas Arts popular "Pipe Dream". Unfortunately it is nothing like that game. Here, you must find the correct route from the lower-left to the upper right. The problem is that clicking on the pipes does not always register, which can cause you to lose the level because they are all timed. Also, the sound of the rotating the pipes made me cringe.

Awesome relaxing small game about the pipes. This game has everything needed to atract causal gamers and also achievement hunting community. Fun and addictive game. Always feels like you're making progress. I really love these kind of logic puzzle games. This one is a concept not that new, but definitely enjoyable. Very relaxing game, simple enough concept and design for those just wanting some quick puzzles. And this is the perfect game to relax at the late evening.

Oh no... the sewer system is broken and its flooding! Rotate the pieces and reconnect the network of pipes to fix it. The levels are easily completed and done within seconds. Everything looks similar, there is barely any variation and it feels repetitive and boring. Clicking the pipes to rotate it doesn't always work, which was my biggest frustration. The game feels and looks like it belongs on a mobile phone. This is exactly where you find more games like this... but for free!
Short version: 46%
If you feel the itch for some pipe puzzles, especially of the simple kind, then this small and cheap thing can fill that gap for an hour or so and even award a handful of easy achievements in the process.
Long version:
‘Pipes!’ is essentially a browser game with a small price tag, a pipe puzzle game that is as simple as it can get. Only straights and elbows, no junctions, no closing caps; pieces can only be rotated and not moved; solutions only required a token amount of pipe sections, so you do not have to create a continuous line through the entire board. Essentially, this game is the bare minimum required for something we can call a pipe puzzle, but for what it is, it works. The only source of difficulty is the timer: we get only a few seconds per stage to get maximum rating, and the entire board forcefully resets after about a minute passes. Still, since all stages are fixed and not generated, this feature is more like an inconvenience, further showcasing the extreme casual, but somehow decently fun nature of the game.
