I bought this either the day it was released or the day after. It looked like an interesting take on the BR genre that has flooded the market since PUBG's success. Prior to this I had played quite a bit of PUBG alone and with friends, and was getting sick of the constant bugs, server preformance, and still somewhat broken physics. Fortnite just wasn't for me. Never was a fan of the building, but more importantly how the game looked. It was such an eye strain from the overall color of the game.
Now on to this game. I was excited when I watched the trailer. It looked like a cross between Halo multiplayer and PUBG. And that's what it felt like. It was a good blend. The games were fast paced (i think around an average of 13 minuets from drop to last one alive) which was a much needed change for the genre. You could almost drop anywhere on the map and not only get a weapon and armor, but it was almost hard to get stuck in the blue with the first zone. A huge contrast in itself from PUBG. I got to play a handfull of games over the next two days, and honestly I had fun.
Sure there were bugs. It was an EA game afterall. It was to be expected. The devs(at the time) seemed fast to adress isues that were being discovered. That was a pretty pleasent thing right there. After my first two days with the game, I had to go back to work which leaves almost no time for games with my job. And almost as quickly as the game looked like it was going up, it came right back down. And i'm still not sure what came first. The players or the devs. The next time I was able to sit down and play games was about 2 weeks after inital launch. There was no one to play with. A stark contrast from two weeks prior where I could be in a game almost instantly. Matches were starting with 20 players out the 50 possible, and it just went down from there. Within a week of that, there was almost nobody. Less than 100 concurent players at any given time. And even then that kept dropping. The devs went silent during this, which I suspect led to where we are today.
Since then they have had a few posts about what they plan on doing in the future. This games hasn't been abandoned completly by the devs, they seem to be working on a relaunch of some form when theyre ready. But it has been abandoned by the players, which I still don't understand. It was an EA BR. We all saw how pubg played at first, and still continues to have issues. But people apparently forgot your vehicle randomly soaring into the sky out of nowhere was fairly common in the first 6 months.
This isn't a negative review on the Devs. I think they havn't given up hope and are honestly trying to fix what was broken, and relaunch. It's on the players. Either they didn't like the gameplay, which is fine and understandable, it's a different style of a BR. Or theyve became too impatient. PUBG has a campin right now to fix the game. It's actually called FIXPUBG. Complete with a website and all. The end goal as tomorrow november 1st. And they aren't making it. Games take time to make, fix, and improve. Give it more that 14 days next time please. These people aren't wizards who can fix everything over night. PUBG didn't and other BR's haven't.
I'm excited to see what happens next, because I did have fun with the game. But because people were impatient, the game died almost overnight. It's not the devs. It's the people who bought it. Will update this when new stuff happens. Because I actually had fun with this.

look this game is fantastic and just released, the simple fact is servers are over crowded and the devs are working on it rn, people post a negitive review with less than a half hour because they cant for a simple server fix....

PLEASE READ.
After 60 hours in this game since EA launch, I have decided to write a comprehensive review based on what I have seen so far.
TLDR: Game is good. Fast games, faster TTK, if PUBG is too slow and the shooting mechanics of fortnite are not your type you will probably like this game.
Gunplay - The gunplay in this game is very fast and twitchy. Headshots greatly improve your chance to kill someone but you can get by without hitting every HS. The spray patterns are a sort of mix between PUBG and CSGO. Each kill feels very satisfying and hit registration is great, especially for a BR game.
Performance and visuals - Compared to most triple A games this game is somewhat visually lacking. The building design is not great, but overall map design is decent, and places like Beam are very fun to fight in. The performance is also something which is not great right now, but should be improved over time, as the Devs of this game are very dedicated. With a GTX 1060, 1500X, and 8Gb of ram on mostly low settings and 1080p I usually get 90-100 fps with dips into the 50s and 60s in graphically taxing areas.
UI - The user interface for IoN is extremely minimalistic and helps to improve your focus on the actual game. The main menu can sometimes be bugged when you open the game, but nothing has happened (yet) to me that has required more than a simple restart of the game.
Community - This game has an official discord, where all of the member are very helpful and the devs frequently talk and interact with the individuals who take the time to use the chat. The only thing this game needs community-wise is more of a playerbase.
Micro Transactions and Cosmetics - Good news, this game doesnt shove them down your throat at all! There are crates which you can buy and unlock simply by playing, and there are specific items which you can buy for a few dollars to spice up your in game character. No pay to win, no gambling (so far).
Progression - This game has a fully fleshed out rankiing system which is hard but fair in the upper levels of play. Each game will add or remove some points from your rank. As of right now, there is no elo based matchmaking but might be added in the future. Right now the addition or removal of ranking points is based of of number of kills, the rank of who you killed, and your placements in each match.
Overall I would say the game is definitely worth 25$. As for those whining who say it should be free, since this is a small dev team working around the clock they needed a price tag to pay for anti cheats and improvements. Cheating (so far) as been a non issue, since the community is very willing to report suspicious behavior the dev team have erased the few cheaters who have popped up since launch.
I hope this helped you decide whether or not to buy this game. See you in the dome!

"People seem to get nostalgic about a lot of things they weren't so crazy about the first time around."
(My opinion is based off of gameplay and watch time, my sub 30 hours are due to my PC specs at the time)
~~~I could be riding nostalgia or hyped up by peers, but I truly believed Islands of Nyne has the material to be a top PC Battle Royale. With a rather small developer team launching is tough bug free - and that's exactly what drove people away. The developers have halted all game development. Saying goodbye will be hard. I have never felt Islands of Nyne movement and weapon mechanics in any other game. it truly is a golden combination that brought more skill to BR than i've ever seen.
~~~It was an amazing game while it lasted but at this point after everything that happened, there is no real reason to purchase it.
Goodbye Islands of Nyne :>

I like this game.
You know how in PUBG you are running around with a pistol and someone has level 3 Gear and maxed out guns and you die? Well that doesn't happen here. You will probably still die but every single playthrough where I didn't die on drop I always had plenty of access to guns and ammo.
You know how in fortnight you try to 1v1 someone and they build a fortress in front of you and shoot you in the face? That doesn't happen here, you get shot in the face but because of natural terrain.

I played this for 17 hours. My My was it awesome... Until the player base died and the devs decided to not try at all to fix the issues that were associated with your hard earned $. Now; while you wait in a server with 5 people for 10 mins, they use your $25 to sip pina colada. Yeah you made it free to play, but what about the people that supported you from the get go? They get nothing but a dead game and hatred for the game and the creator. I want my money back, and unfortunately im too dumb to wait and see if it is a boom or bust apparently. I will never purchase a game from these devs/creators again. Please return my money, at leat to my steam wallet so I can spend it on a game that MAY be worth it...like minecraft or somthing.

the game was good, i have a few hours in it and i was even in top 100 players at one point, now around a year later the devs are gone and there is a average peek of 5 players, ive tried to refund the game, but apparently im not eligible for that so now i just have a $24 game that is unplayable, what a joke. 1 like = 1 prayer

I really wanted to wait until I had way more hours until I posted my review, but I'm seeing people bash this game for things that are in absolutely no way true, so here it is.
IoN is a battlegrounds shooter with a futuristic touch to it. The goal is to drop, find a gun, attachments, armour peices and sheilds. Very much like other BR's the zone will slowly shrink, forcing players together. The map does feel a little empty in some places, but in others there are incredibly unique zones whch may include castles, slums, arena's etc. Gear is very easy to get in the sense it spawns anywhere there are buildings, and there are very few no spawn locations (Makes it fair when you drop next to others, nothings worse then finding jack, while the other guy's got 3 guns)
There were server problems at the start, release was quite literally yesterday and the fact is they fixed 95% of those server problems incredibly quick and I was able to find games almost instantly on OCE servers. It works much the same as PUBG/Fortnite, you search for a game and an attempt will be made to match you into a full lobby. If this is not possible, it will throw you into the next best thing, which os more often than not 10-30 players. While you wait, which is not long AT ALL, you can play a gun game to pass the small amount of time while practising your aim.
This game isn't perfect, the most noticable bugs are visual and for me, I can play this game with no problems in regards to matchmaking, ping or FPS. Another thing is people are complaining abuot FPS and have the balls to permanently flame a game for a few hours of testing. I run a 970 old card, and I get roughly 45-60fps constantly, so I implore those to check their drivers and backround processes. I'm not saying this game is fully optimized, fuck it released yesteday to the public, but try to get it working.
This game in essence is something new, improved and has been hard worked on for years. This isn't some cuisine royal type gig, this game has more substance than PUBG...and I've played over 700 hours of it from release. The bugs on day 1 are far fewer than some BR games that have been out for over a years, and far less severe I might add. I see no reason these issues will not be fixed, and constantly worked on to make better.
So yeah, those who downvoted for neglegant reasons, fuck you, go support a game who only sees their player base as crate poppers. The day this game shows the same, i'll gladly re-write a review, but for now its amazing and I'm having a blast.

This game is exactly as advertised: action-packed, futuristic gunplay in a battle royale.
The loot crates are for cosmetics only and cannot be bought with real money or require any keys.
The ELO/ranking system is very similar to Overwatch.
The graphics are good without being too flashy/in the way (face it, in a BR game you don't want all the HDR bloom/motion blur bullshit getting in the way of you spotting your enemy).
Movement feels good, skins that you can get from crates are cool. They have a very CSGO vibe.
Normal game will only last up to 15:00 minutes (if you win), so none of that "loot-for-25-minutes-running-simulator" gameplay.
Runs perfectly smooth on Epic settings with my setup: i5 6550k, nVidia 1070 (Founder's edition), 16 gb ram, 7200rpm HDD
It isn't PUBG, it isn't Fortnite, it isn't Realm Royale, it isn't H1Z1, it is Islands of Nyne. If you like CSGO/Planetside 2 gunplay, with good server performance, you are going to like this game. Big thumbs up.

I am writing this from the point of view of someone who has 400+ hours in on PUBG. Its fast paced, smaller circles more combat orientated. It has the following:
-A training ground with a wall to check gun spray.
-Animal sounds in the map making it noticeably more lifelike.
-Prior to match start, a deathmatch type gametype in the waiting area.
-Easy to navigate houses and easy to find loot. Very rarely are you only stuck with a knife.
-You get a knife. You can throw it or stab stab.
-A quick and nice way to view the map
-You can always outrun the circle, but the circle is almost always coming
-Very little downtime between combat
-Not camping friendly. You move to much.
-No prone (Which i dont like)
-You can run and gun and hip fire.
-A progression system.
I really like it already. Yeah it has bugs, but its really really early alpha. But if you are looking for a PUBG alternative and hate Fortnite, this is a solid choice.
