I have a 4 thousand dollar pc that has yet to struggle with any game. this game crashes, and it crashes a lot. i have reported dozens of crashes and i have yet to receive an email about any of them. i have tried and tried to fix the issue, but after all this time, the game is still coded like garbage. they have not fixed the issues by now, they never will.

Age of Wonders 4 in Space, but less polished and forgiving. Positioning is crucial. Go Team Borg eh Assembly!

I've played Aow 3, Planetfall and AoW 4. This game might be the best one, especially if you like the sci-fi theme. The developers put a ton of thought into the game mechanics. I'ts by no means perfect, but there's a ton of replayability and various strategies to use. if you like tactical combat, you can really outwit your opponents. Nothing is quite as satsifying as winning a fight where you are outnumbered and outgunned because you use good positioning and conserve your resources better.

The first quest breaks if you conquer one of the AI factions, leaving you at 2/3rds completion with no other options and so I wasn't able to progress. The text pre amble before it implies you might have to fight them so I thought that conflict could be a solution. Not impressive given this is the first quest that you would assume would be the most tested. The whole push to do quests isn't really my cup of tea generally, I'll try the sandbox modes later.

Age of Wonders has always been the gold standard of fantasy turn-based strategy games, and Planetfall could well be the gold standard of sci-fi turn-based strategy games.

"Age of Wonders: Planetfall" definitely offers a unique take on the strategy genre, blending elements of turn-based tactics with 4X game-play. However, while the game has its strengths, I find that it doesn't hold my attention for extended periods. One of the main reasons is that there are so many other games in this genre that it can feel a bit repetitive. The mechanics, though solid, are largely familiar and don’t bring anything particularly groundbreaking to the table. The variety of factions and units is interesting, but without a deep narrative or compelling characters to engage with, it can become a bit tedious. Additionally, the pacing of the game sometimes feels off. The early game can drag on, and by the time I start to feel invested, the match is either over or I’ve lost focus. While the strategic elements are enjoyable, the overall experience lacks the depth and immersion that keeps me coming back for more. The visuals and art design are decent, but they don’t elevate the experience as much as I hoped. I find that after a couple of hours of play, I’m more inclined to switch to something else. The game is fine for a casual play session, but it doesn’t quite hook me in a way that makes me want to dive in for the long haul. Overall, while "Age of Wonders: Planetfall" has its moments, it doesn't seem to stand out in a crowded field of strategy games, making it easy to overlook in favour of others that provide a more engaging experience.

After 100 hours of both games I can say I much prefer Planetfall than Age of Wonders 4. There are so much way to customize each separated unit in your army and it's quite fast and painless to do so. The only downside of this game is the outdated UI and UX.
