A Beautiful Puzzle-Platformer with Some Flaws
Game Name: Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🌙 (6.5/10)
✨ My Experience
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince delivers a gorgeous visual experience with its vibrant landscapes and beautiful environments. The game’s art style and detailed world really pull you in, making it a treat for the eyes. However, despite the stunning visuals, I couldn’t help but feel like something was lacking in the overall experience. The story is decent, but the puzzles and platforming can become a bit tedious at times, causing the enjoyment to dip after prolonged sessions.
🔮 Gameplay
The gameplay mixes puzzle-solving and platforming in a side-scrolling format, allowing you to control three different characters, each with their own unique abilities. The puzzles are creative and varied, but they sometimes feel more like filler than meaningful challenges. The lack of challenge in some sections of the game can make it feel more like a relaxed experience rather than one that really pushes your skills. The game’s fluid mechanics and physics engine are solid, but there are moments where the controls feel unintuitive or a bit frustrating.
🌟 Conclusion
Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince is a visually stunning puzzle-platformer with a lot of potential. While it offers a charming world and decent gameplay, it falls short of greatness due to repetitive puzzles and inconsistent difficulty. For fans of the series or those who enjoy relaxing puzzle games, it’s worth trying out. But for those looking for more engaging or challenging gameplay, it might not meet expectations.

My friends and I recently played through all of the previous Trine games, and we had a fantastic time playing them (even the poorly received third game), so we were excited to play the fourth game in the series. We definitely had a blast playing through this game as well, although it wasn't quite as good as we were hoping, as it fell slightly short of our experience from the previous games.
The story has never been the selling point of this series, and this game is no exception, although it felt like the story in this game wasn't great even by Trine standards. It wasn't really connected to the story from previous games at all (the Trine itself was only barely mentioned in this game), and the story in general just felt pretty uninteresting and predictable, which was a bit of a shame.
Thankfully, the gameplay was pretty close to the gameplay we had enjoyed in previous games. The three characters all have fairly similar abilities to previous games, with some neat new additions, and the level and puzzle design is fairly similar as well. Much like previous games, the puzzles can be solved in a variety of different ways, and solving them in creative and potentially unintended ways is one of the most entertaining thing about this game. Unfortunately, it wasn't all positive, and some of the changes that were made didn't feel as good. For whatever reason, the wizard Amadeus felt much more powerful than the warrior Pontius or the thief Zoya for most of the game, and Amadeus unlocked most of his upgrades first as well. Additionally, both Pontius and Amadeus eventually unlock a dash/teleport which allows them to move through puzzles fairly quickly, but Zoya only gets a roll, so as a result, she was often stuck waiting for the other two in order to proceed (we played the game on Classic mode, so we were only able to have one of each character at a time). It just felt like the amount of movement and utility that was given to the different characters was quite poorly balanced, which led to some frustration at times.
The game looks fantastic, but the stability, much like previous entries, was not good. In fact, this game felt more unstable than the notoriously buggy Trine 3. Thankfully, in a game like this, the bugs and jank we encountered often led to hilarious moments, where characters or objects could go floating into the sky, clip through obstacles, or fly away at Mach speed with no warning. This wasn't always entertaining though, and we managed to softlock ourselves behind puzzles no less than three times during our playthrough. We were sometimes able to use some pretty egregious, unintended jank to wiggle our way out of these situations a few times, but other times we had to completely restart to escape, which was never fun.
TL;DR This fun puzzle platformer continues the legacy of the Trine series with fun platforming, interesting puzzles, and neat mechanics with tremendous potential for those who love to solve things in creative, unintended ways. However, the story left a lot to be desired, the character abilities felt a bit unbalanced, and the game was fairly unstable, and led to us getting softlocked a number of times. Despite all this, we had a blast playing this game, and I'd still recommend it, especially if you've enjoyed the series and are looking for more Trine to play.

Six years late into to the game lmao.
Goated game. Most of the levels can be solved in like 9 different ways, and the funky physics make cheesing a lot of the levels easy

I started playing Trine from 1-4. They are all fun, and so far this one is the best. It has a really good flow, and the games have all gotten better with each sequel. This is a puzzle platformer, and has multiplayer options.

Looks nice, so far there's variety in levels, including biomes, coloring, and mechanics.
Most riddles are pretty easy for an average player, some could take a bit of time.
Music is great, voice acting is fine.
I got this at a sale as a 4-part bundle, so I think it was definitely worth the money.

Trine 4 is an absolute blast, especially with friends! The game looks stunning, with gorgeous, colorful environments that feel straight out of a fairytale. The puzzles are clever and super fun to solve together, making great use of each character’s abilities.
The co-op gameplay is smooth, the story is charming, and the music adds to the magic. If you love puzzle-platformers and want a fun, beautiful adventure to share with friends, Trine 4 is a must-play!

A visual masterpiece. The puzzles aren't hard (4/10) but you can solve is so many different ways, that I can consider this as a strong point (so, puzzles is 7/10 in the end). Combat is week, but is not the focus of the game. Play as solo is ok (go for the achievements) But playing with in multiplayer is the right way to play! Experience overall is amazing. One of the best purchase you can do on sale
