Piece of Memory Reviews

One day, an autonomous drone was trying to reduce its altitude in order to make landing. Lost its owner, the drone had been flying for many decades with solar power. It was a remnant, an "AI autonomous semi-permanent flying drone".

Please dont buy this game, you will regret it. Horrible Controls, you control the movements with mouse, no WASD controls, also the game likes to crash. 0/10 Fucking me .

Piece of Memory is not a good game. That said, it is not a game without merit. It has a certain charm to it that I think makes it stand out from even some big budget games. The developer clearly had a vision in mind and did their best to reach those aspirations. I can't say I think you should absolutely play this game, but I can say that if you decide to check it out with a mind focused on "this was a one-person team's first game," you might walk away with an overall pleasant experience.

I got this for 90% off since it looked strange and unique but that unfortunately doesnt make it a good experience. The title menu music is by far the best part of the entire game. You can find all the music and ambient tracks as wavesound files in the installation folder. The controls are awkward to get used to but not impossible. You move with the mouse by clicking on directional prompts that appear on the screen. The gameplay is pretty straightforward and monotonous most of the time. You are a cat and walk around an area with the girl in tow, sometimes having to protect her. To reach the end of a stage you'll need to climb up and down and find certain key items to progress. You can also collect memory fragments, which tell you the story of the game. The English is not the best but you can understand it. Once you reach a specific area you'll enter flight mode to travel to the next part. This is easily the most frustrating, especially later on when it turns into more of a trial and error section that, at times, needs very accurate movement. Rinse and repeat and you got yourself 4-5 hours of constant climbing, cat meowing, bumping into the girl to make her slow butt follow you and terrible flight sections. But at the end of it all you save humanity and get to watch credits that feel a good 15 minutes too long. Because thats how long they are. If you truly want to put yourself through this I recommend saving quite a bit. It might just save you time in case you encounter certain events, failure or a rare crash. The only time it crashed for me was when I mashed buttons in frustration, so dont do that.

I think this game is getting a lot of undeserved hate for a game made by one person. Admittedly it has a lot of problems, none of which make the game unplayable, and I think the price of $12 might be why those issues seem so bad. That and the pace of the game being very slow. This is a review after getting the game for ~$3 on sale. TL;DR - Once you get over the flaws and learn to save often, Piece of Memory is an atmospheric and interesting tale with tense moments, a dystopian setting, and just enough charm to keep me playing until the end. I recommend this game to anyone looking for an unpolished but soulful indie game. To everyone else, try the demo. [list] [*]Gameplay - The game is one giant escort mission so if you hate that idea you will probably not enjoy the main gameplay. The puzzles are straightforward and don't require too much thought. The flying sections had a few frustrating moments but were enjoyable and figuring out/remembering how to fly safely was fun. The monster encounters are great, and actually made me very tense thanks to the sudden appearance and music. [*]Controls - Not that good but I never found myself fighting them, the overall slow pace they move at is the frustrating part. I found controlling neko with arrows and key-a with mouse was comfortable. [*]Story - Surprisingly intriguing, collecting the "kakera" gives you insight into an alien world but never enough to paint a full picture. The locations you visit have nice scenery woven in as well, adding to the overall dread and mystery that is their world. [*]Music - Limited, but the ambience is great, the music tense, and the main/ending themes fun. Hearing Lily sing as you open the game is nice and might surprise you with how well she can sing.
