The rubberbanding is just horrible, and it does not matter hwo well you race. The AI just zooms past you 400mph on the last straight when you are 100 meters ahead in the last turn.

I really wanted to like this game. I love the art direction, and arcade racers are one of my favorite genres. I just can't get into it. Maybe it's the lack of any sort of helpful tutorial about how the controls and drifting work, but I don't get it. I don't mind a difficult game, but it needs to ease the player into that difficulty. Here, even in time trial mode, usually a safe haven to get your bearings, I feel completely frustrated as a random ghost takes off from the starting line and I'm left in its dust, slamming from guard rail to guard rail as I try to get the hang of drifting around a tight corner. Not a fun experience.

The game could've been really fun if it weren't for some really infuriating aspects.
First, the hard difficulty is ok, but the expert one is completely broken, it's just stupid. No matter how perfectly you make your way through tracks and use boost, the AI will just fly past you anyway. You're never rewarded for driving nicely with some distance being created between you and the AI. Which connects directly to another flaw:
The car stats. Each car has 3 stats, speed, acceleration, and drift. In arcade games where there's this tradeoff of cars being faster but harder to handle, there's a reward for mastering those harder cars, you eventually can create a real advantage, maybe use those cars in tracks that have more straights, etc. But here, speed is a completely irrelevant stat, any car geared towards speed is just trash, in part because there's almost no tracks that benefit faster cars, and in part because of what I mentioned earlier about the AI, even with the faster cars, the game just won't allow you to create any distance from it, so what's the bloody point?
Another broken part of the game, is the way gear shifting and boost intereact with one another. If you hit a wall on a tight corner and are hoping to use boost to quickly get back to it, forget it, the game has a thing where it completely nullifies the boost when gears are changed. Unless you're in the highest possible gear and use it to catch up to the AI on a straight or something, boost is basically useless.
The cops x robbers mode is just a broken mess as well, since it suffers from the same problem of insane rubberbanding AI, there's no way to beat it honestly, you have to cheese it out by letting the other cars mess each other up, and then just go for it at the last moment, which isn't fun at all.
I mean, for what you pay, it's...almost fine I guess? But still, even being super cheap, I probably wouldn't bother with it, just buy Horizon Chase Turbo instead.
