I have to say if you're sick of recent games full of DEI elements.
You'll need to play this game. although this is not the latest game, the story and characters are better than most DEI AAA games.

play on nightmare for a really fun stealth game with trail and error encounters that you have to get just right. Works best on a controller with gyro aim.
originally beat this on PS4 years ago.
monster designs and story are (mostly) lacking and takes itself too seriously, not a deal breaker tho and the villain is hilarious.

If you actually loved The Evil Within (2014) then this game will betray all your expectations in the worst way possible. It was dumbed down for every detractor who didn't even try to understand the first game. Entire game mechanics were completely cut from the sequel. The crossbow bolts are all less effective. The level design is a clear step down from the original. The enemy variety is laughable. The new antagonists are all inferior to Ruvik. But the most annoying aspect is that Sebastian just won't shut up and that the player doesn't care about what motivates Sebastian. Lily would be the worst character of this franchise if she was even a character at all and if Esmeralda Torres didn't exist who btw can't stop Girlboss Mcfeminisming all over the place. We already had a strong female character in Kidman. Why were all her scenes about her emasculating Sebastian and why did you offer dialogue the player could select if you won't let the player decide whether to forgive Esmeralda or not for literally destroying Sebastian's life. I guess those were just for exposition which this game does to much of. Forget about "Show. Don't tell." This game seems to think that story elements are clubs the characters are supposed to use to beat the player over the head with.
One upside of this game though is that after playing this trash you stop feeling sad about Tango Gameworks being shut down. I will just pretend this game doesn't exist so I can keep the TRUE Evil Within on the survival horror throne that exists within my heart.
One last addendum: Did you really have to make every generic enemy constantly bob and weave their head? What was wrong with the old enemies who kept their spines straight and who didn't suffer from epileptic seizures? Also there are Darks Souls 2-tier hitbox issues in this game with grabs from nowhere and bullets that I swear went straight through the enemies heads.

The horror elements were toned down a bit compared to the first game, but the overall gameplay, the characters and the story are better.

This game has no business being as good as it is. Lowkey sad I passed on it during release cause its ridiculously fun to play through. Very imaginative designs, both with its world and characters. Sale or otherwise, this game is a steal for its asking price.

7/10, story gets dragged out in the end but has good mechanics overall. Wish they increased progression a little bit.

Issa good game.
The monsters and combat are a bit bland, but the story more than makes up for it.
