This DLC adds lore but requires repetitive playthroughs; decent but not outstanding

I've only played for less than an hour and it's already clear to me that it's not worth it. I need to clarify a few things: 1. The DLC is very slow. There are points where the story is either nonexistent or pointless, and unlike the original game, most of the notes are meaningless. 2. The NPCs have a 'story,' but it's not something that represents a drastic change in the game. It's like the story they already told you on the train, but very drawn out and boring, told one by one. 3. If you want to complete all the 'endings' or achievements, you'll have to play through the DLC at least 12 times, not counting all the time you'll be dying and delaying your journey to the end. 4. The checkpoints are HORRIBLE. In the original game, there were a wide variety of checkpoints that made life easier for the player. Furthermore, since the maps aren't very large, they could be completed easily. This DLC doesn't; it's the opposite. The maps are unnecessarily large, when you die you respawn wherever the game wants, and most changes aren't saved, resulting in a loss of progress. 5. Human interactions are much more limited and are mostly based on: I see an NPC, I try to recruit them. End. There aren't many other interactions. In the base game, you talk to NPCs, they tell you the story, but, for example, the cook in a certain town ASKS YOU to take him with you or else he'll NEVER tell you the story of what happened. This is slightly overshadowed by the fact that there are sometimes human enemies and that there are occasional interactions with the white-eyed humans in which, most of the time, you don't interact with them. 6. The game's incompetence. The "new enemies" are tedious and mostly reworked from the old ones with a slight new function. They're horrifying and add the apparent function of making it impossible to complete the game without having to use your pistol. This is something that was already in the original game. Yes, it sometimes forced you to use your pistol, but it made sense. This DLC directly adds an enemy that spits acid and is incredibly difficult to block or dodge, making killing it 90% of the time with your pistol. 7. The heals are simply terrible. I don't need to go into this further. Let's come to a conclusion. The DLC isn't unplayable, but if you have other options, buy them before this. It might entertain you for a while, but like I said, it ends up being tedious and makes you want to close the game and never open it again. If you're a speedrunner, forget it; you'll waste hours. If you're someone looking to complete the game 100% with all its achievements, good luck, you'll need it. If you're a casual gamer, I recommend playing the base game and forgetting this exists. 5/10 Based on (2/2 is perfect, 1/2 is average, and 0/2 is horrible): Graphics: 2/2 (average, pixelated, nothing to write home about) Difficulty: 0/2 (unnecessarily complicated, ruins the experience) Story: 1/2 (bad but bearable) Game Time: 0/2 (unnecessarily long considering how bad the story is and how long the levels are) Price: 2/2 (you can afford it, it's not expensive) (To clarify, I don't know why it says I have 0 hours played... I've played both the DLC and the base game but I haven't completed any of the DLC endings.)

The DLC changes many things about the base game. Some good, some bad. To start, combat feels better. The bat and revolver both feel a lot punchier and more satisfying. I also found myself less frustrated by combat encounters and overall resorted to less cheese. The new enemy variants were also a breath of fresh air. Deflecting spitter acid with bat swings was especially fun, but I do think this interaction should’ve been shown off in some way as I only discovered it by accident. I think these changes were definitely beneficial. However, I didn’t appreciate all the gameplay changes. Levels felt far too large. I often found myself backtracking to check alternate routes, and it just took a while overall. My opinions on the car gameplay were…mixed. Being forced to leave people behind really sucked, and the UI was extremely finicky with a controller. The single passenger system seems to encourage multiple playthroughs, but I don’t think there’s enough replayability in the gameplay to warrant that. I initially disliked the one on one dialogue, preferring the group banter of the train, but over time I began to appreciate it more and now I view them about equal. Not having to care for your passengers was a nice change of pace, as was being able to use medkits on yourself. However, as I mentioned in my review of the main game, the narrative is where this game shines and that’s no different in The Only Traitor. While I initially disliked the first few cities, that all changed when I reached
Keskus
.
Seeing the cities from the main campaign in their current state was really cool but also a bit disturbing.
The companion dialogue also began to pick up at this point and I started to enjoy it a lot more. The DLC drops a TON of lore on you, and YOU have to figure out how it pieces in with that of the main campaign. I honestly felt like I was making a detective board, trying to figure out what was actually going on (I was actually writing notes). The ending only threw me for a further loop, and totally messed with my understanding of the world. To some, piecing together a crazy web of lore might not be appealing, but I personally found it incredibly engaging. I might even go back and replay the main campaign and the DLC just to figure it out. Overall, I think The Only Traitor is a great DLC for the main game. It expands on the main campaign’s ideas and has its own to offer. Not all of them are great, but enough are better for it to be a worthwhile experience if you enjoyed the main game. Addendum: WTF do you mean 200 ft tall?!?!
