WAGAMAMA HIGH SPEC Reviews
Narumi Kouki, our hapless protagonist, writes a risque romcom for a weekly manga magazine. Due to its content, he's kept it a secret from everyone except the two closest to him: Mihiro and Toa.

The game is great, I really liked Mihiro and Toa's route. I find Kaoruko's route kind of boring and Ashe's route pretty decent, the story overall was great and there's a fandisc for this game which is what I'm about to read. I had a good laugh playing all the routes and knowing that this vn is supposed to be a comedy one.. Well, it doesn't seem like it is. But It does show in Mihiro's route more than the other routes.
I believe the best route would be Toa's. You can compare Ashe's route and Toa's route because they're both kind of similar in a way, but I find Toa's route a lot better. People say Toa's route makes the other routes look lame and after reading her route, I can see why they said that.

This game is quite good in terms of story and drama presented.
First I started with the Kaoruko route where I found that I had difficulty understanding the sentences given, I had to read it several times in order to understand it. Maybe just me?
Next is the Ashe route, here we will be given a drama that enough to make us curious about what will happen next and with the ending given quite satisfying in my opinion.
Mihiro route is quite fun because here we get a problem that is quite funny because
it turns out that it was just a misunderstanding.
Toa route in my opinion is the one the best because here we get a kind of picture of the actual activities carried out by our MC.
I will continue reading the Fandisc version

Very dry slapstick comedy VN. The protagonist is super bland, the dialog is super awkward and unnatural, jokes are very surface level and the bits go on way past their expiration date. Playing this right after Sankaku Renai was such a stark contrast - in that I was cracking up constantly, in this one I didn't chuckle once. If you enjoy typical Japanese slapstick then you may get a kick out of it, but otherwise this is highly unlikely to win you over. I don't recommend it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, to me personally a solid 10, objectively, prolly an 8.
Story is generic kinda but I felt it cute at times and I laughed my ass when Toa said Akechi Mitsuhide in the Ashe Route.
If you have it, good, play it and have fun, if you are interested in buying it, wait a sale. Like this one.

Wagamama High Spec is pretty good visual novel.
Protagonist is high school student who is also writer of romcom manga, but he is keeping it secret from public. One day he looses his notepad full of manga drafts at school and the notepad is found by student council president Kaoruko. It turns out that Kaoruko is actualy illustrator for his manga, who was also keeping her occupation secret .... well and from there on begins endless string of hillarious situations.
Visuals are pretty good but what really set this VN apart from others is very well done scripting. Characters change theyr sprites a lot, often even few times per line. My favorite scene in this regard was one where one of characters started panicking, looked left, right, left, right and then run out of the room all during reading single line of text. Only visual novels i know that can compare with this level of scripting are minori's VN or Muv-Luv serie.
I have read only 2 routes out of 4 available, but i have no complains about quality of story. This is moege so dont expect any deep story in first place, but what is there is well done, drama isnt based on some riddiculus contructions, its not plagued by human stupidity, everything is beliveable.
Steam version is censored, you can buy uncensored version from Denpasoft.
(or you can buy steam version, pirate denpasoft version and copy it over steam one ... that way you have uncensored VN on steam :P )

Played a cracked version 5-6 years ago. Didn't have the money to buy it.
After finishing the game I told myself I would buy this amazing game when I had disposable income.
I had forgotten about it until now but I kept the promise I made to myself.
Recommend this game very much. Gonna play it again for sure.
A Visual Novel to fell in Love with

I just finished all Routes and must say, the VN had nothing I would complain about.
I have zero problems and nothing bad to mention. Not even the story-writing/telling.
It is a wholesome RomCom with no 0815 imposed Drama which will let you think twice, if you give this Vn a thumbsup.
There are some major nice features in this game, I absolutly love and would welcome in all other VNs on this planet.
The probably best Feature is, that you can save spoken lines and hear them again!
There is also the posbility (but I didn't tried yet) after finishing the whole game, i activated the "Sprite-Galery" with which I could do my own scenes or could write my own story in this universe.
And you can always jump back to former sentences, can adjust the "text size" and "text type". (which is normal for good VNs i still wanted to mention it)
It is fantastic written, the music is nice and all characters are to fall in love with!
The side-characters aren't that bad, my personal Comedy-Hero is for me Kinjirou.
The Synchronisation is well done and all the Seiyuus are just good in what they do! Mad props at them.
The Art is nice, you can get a hold of it from the steamshop page.
So far I would suggest and recommend you, to buy this game, if you like what you can see on the Steampage and you like a calmy wholesome relaxing RomCom!
I did and I enjoyed every (mostly funny) seccond with it!
Personal Opinion on the Routes: (I rate the Routes in here, but no heavy spoilers)
Ashe's drama was the hardest to digest and also kind of hard to read.
Mihiros drama was the obviously one and also wholesome, but also hard to read, because it was so clear.
Kaoruko had the most wholesome one.
and Toas was ok, can't really say it was 0815, but can't really say it was special either.
It was a good climax. I also have to admit, Toas-Route is over 1-2years ago, so I cant really remember what the "real problem was" but the End was nice.

Preclaimer
- This is an Adult Visual Novel - one with a free R18 Patch (obtainable at Denpasofts webshop) at that - designed to be R18, which is why I consider the R18 content part of the whole and will include it in this review. If for whatever reason you are not interested in this content, or aren't legally allowed to play it, you should just skip this review.
- Since many Visual Novels are similar in a bunch of ways, I'm gonna review this one on a few common aspects, trying to both include references to other VNs as well as give independent explanations.
- This is my first impression. I will update this review as I progress further through this game.
Graphical & Technical Quality
When trying to shortly sum up Wagamama, I can only think of "a mid tier visual novel trying to aim higher but failing to reach that."
Wagamama features a solid artstyle with high variety, a default RomCom soundtrack that isn't too annoying even when listening to the same songs for a long time with one or two pretty cool tracks in between and a solid engine foundation, running on the KiriKiri engine.
Following that setup it tries a few things out of the book of higher tier VNs like "Sabbat of the Witch" with delivering an infinite (you can create as many pages as you like) amount of saveslots, freely describable, movable and lots of information on them, and while there is no animation on the charater sprites (no blinking or mouth movement), the sprites are changed even mid sentence quite often to give the scene a more lively feel.
Hotkey support, jumping back and forth between choices, voice line saving, auto and skip mode with behaviour customization and all the usual indepth customization of the game's feel are present, as well as a unique gimmick I'm gonna get back to in another segment of this review.
Furthermore we have a time system which isn't important, but gives us an interesting overview over the timespan and timeskips the story takes place in.
On the other side though, the game sadly only has a native 720p resolution which can become impactful in some close-up scenes with highly zoomed in backgrounds or sprites, and even more sadly it has notable performance issues with moving images. In fact, it lags whenever something (like dialogue on clicking/auto progress) is loaded, and even if it isn't faster scenes can have lagspikes.
This can best be countered by setting the dialog animation speed to max, so it instantly fully appears.
The translation is solid - the usual typos here and there, though nothing overly notable.
Content & Runtime
What can you expect from Wagamama High Spec?
It is a lighthearted RomCom with a fair mix between blunt anime/harem humor and actually funny moments, all in all not being too tiresome. The second half - the much more romance focused heroine routes - actually have some serious story/feel to them.
There is four of said heroines to choose from, which you do via 12 dialogue choices throughout the common route. Even if that comparison is really weird, their personalities are like their bust size (which you clearly see up there on the store page) - distinct, yet really over the top. Though in the end still very likable with depth to their character. The male protagonist goes beyond your average dense harem king but the male sidekicks are absolutely zero dimensional and beyond salvation (as always with comedy). Not that anyone cares about them anyway.
The game can be divided into two segments - the common route, taking around 10h and the character routes lasting for around 15h (not rush skipping). Considering you only play the common route once thanks to choice-jumping, this gives an estimate of around 60+h of total content. [Update on further progress]
After clearing your first route you unlock the gallery where you can re-enjoy the total of 103 CGs and SD artworks, listen to the 28 OSTs and enjoy all the "scenes" once more (if you already saw/heared them ingame before of course).
After playing all routes you unlock the sprite viewer, allowing you to play around with all the backgrounds and character sprites in the game.
The R18 Content
Comparing to other adult VNs I'd actually say Wagamama is on the higher ranking side here.
There are 4+1 H-Scenes per character (one with 5+1) [the one is unlocked in the gallery after clearing the route], feeling somewhat longer with usually a more thorough build-up.
You get to choose between coming inside or out in some scenes with preferences presetable in the settings.
Now about the gimmick I was mentioning earlier. Wagamama has a feature called "Nude Patch". Enabling this in the settings (just a normal turn on/off whenever setting) turns all the heroines character sprites to their nude version. It's useless (other than there not being any regular nude sprite usages in the story), but funny, and the existence of this idea is enough noteworthy feature for me.
On top of that it also seems like, unlike with other nude sprites in other adult VNs, there is something drawn on the lower body half - because there are full size mosaics over it, because this game is mosaic censored.
It even is so much censored, that for whatever weird reason all screenshots taken from within the gallery for the completely all ages common route CGs are completely pixelated. Though other than that the mosaics actually aren't that drastic.
Oh, and there are some, sometimes louder sometimes softer, remains of censorship beeping for the two most used H-words we all know that I can't write here because otherwise Steam is gonna censor me too.
There is background moaning as well as accompanying sound effects, though this time 'round they don't sound that weird. (Not your usual bone breaking and cement mixing.)
When it comes to the depiction of bodily fluids and the inhuman stamina of the actors, Wagamama is rather on the calm/reasonable/believable side, when it comes to fetishes complety vanilla so far. (Except for a more serious approach at the topic of protection, and a bit of first hand incest [blood related sister heroine]).
Conclusion
Is this game worth it?
Sure thing. You get some long lasting entertainment packed into an overall enjoyable "story" at a normal price. Of course there are better VNs out there, but you probably came here reading reviews because you are interested in Wagamama High Spec and not something else.
The next sale is always around the corner, and at latest with some discount you can grab a copy without worries.

This type of fun VNs always make me feel depressed. Because they remind me the normal life that I will never get to experience.
You need to apply the patch to deepen the self pity effect.
10/10 would get depressed again.

Looking through the reviews for this game, it doesn't seem like any really address what it actually is, so I'll attempt to answer that.
Wagamama High Spec is a VN that stands out in two areas, comedy and art. The fact that the art is gorgeous should be obvious from the store page, a lot of detail went into the sprites and it shows.
The fact that this is primarily a comedy isn't really obvious though.
I spent 29 hours playing this, and of those about 25 involved me laughing out loud or grinning like an idiot. The cast of characters is well rounded, and most of the humor comes seemlessly from the character personalities and the dialogue between them. That is to say that the jokes aren't forced in. I would even go as far as to say that it feels like the story gets caught up in the characters' pace, it just naturally gravitates towards hilarious interactions.
This is a feel-good VN through and through. It's not a thriller, nor will it give you "the feels." It will however make you laugh until you can't sit up straight.
The story is well written, though not exceptional. The scenarios aren't particularly new or interesting, and the writers managed to drop the ball on the endings of most of the routes.
The romance is cute, and admittedly more realistic than standard VN fare in the way the relationships progress. Despite the obligatory flaming about censorship (Can we just get over it already? Please.), this game handles sex and sexuality much better than most VN's I've read. Sex is not taboo, it's a part of a healthy relationship and for ****'s sake, by the time you're ready to proclaim your love to someone you should be ready to kiss and have sex.
All the buildup wether that be a steamy exchange or the abrupt "Let's fuck for no apparent reason" that you find in VN's is left in tact along with any pillow talk afterwords. All they did was replace the hentai slide show + erotica with a black screen that leaves no doubt as to what just happened.
That said, none of the romances were particularly heartwarming or moving, they were just cute.
Of the four routes, I rated them 8, 7, 7, 6, which is pretty decent, though none blew me away.
My biggest complaint with the novel is that the writers completely dropped the ball when it came to finishing up the routes. A good epilogue can cinch the route, and stay with you. It's what you'll remember when you think back to the game a year later. I think that the routes could have been at least a point or two higher across the board if they had gone for a big finish. Instead they usually had a cop out, which is just sad considering I can immediately think of ways the ending could have been impactful and meaningful in 3 of the four routes.
Due to the lackluster endings, really I'll just remember this as an extremely funny game, where the journey, not the end is what matters.
If it weren't for the comedy gold in this novel, it would be thoroughly mediocre, however it's just so enjoyable overall that I give it a 7.5 out of 10.
To enjoy the novel to the fullest, I would suggest only that you end on Kaoruko's route and don't start with Ashe's.
TLDR:
If you enjoy VN's this is worth a buy just for the laughs.
