The Search is a walking simulator about becoming fully free and unconstrained as an artist. It has lovely graphics, pleasant music, and very simple puzzles (basically just finding the objects required to produce a painting to open a blocked route, and the ticket required to use travel machines to move between scenes/"worlds"). Initially movement is like that in the old adventure games i.e. slow discrete steps moving forward/back or turning left/right; only at the very last stage of the game is free movement enabled (to signify the attainment of full artistic freedom). This is less a game and more a philosophy discussion, which is not really to my liking, but the voice acting is excellent and makes the philosophical musings more palatable. I feel that the biggest challenges in the game are two of the achievements - (a) finding one secret travel machine (which I had no idea about before consulting a guide), and (b) reading all documents and notes (despite searching carefully - or so I thought! - I missed at least four after completing my first playthrough). I only paid UK £1 for the game so, despite its shortcomings, I feel that I had value for money.

Nice artwork and I like the concept, but it's way too short. This feels like a demo and is more like an illustrated essay on creative art than a game. If you're looking for a challenge give it a pass.
