I have loved this game since the day it came out. Buying it on Steam has been a great choice. While the port is a little shaky at times and the lighting has some issues, the game is still fantastic.

As clunky as the games UI, camera control, and even just controls in general can be, as well as how campy some of the dialogue is, the story is pretty phenomenal. The classic World of Darkness setting is beautifully explored and expressed through the characters and setting, something you'll never get again with the V5 standard now. Voice acting is great in some places, mediocre in others, but over all it is a fantastic experience I'll never forget. I've played this game on and off since it first came out when I was 8. I've played it recently, and it still holds up for me. SOME SPOILERS (Despite how old this game, the story is the main draw for me so yes this matters) This is one of the only games with a rich story that I've experienced, that starts you off in the 10th century Europe, and ends in the 1990's North America. The fact that several Vampire games that have come before or since, have never attempted this kind of experience/story is a crime. Starting the story as a Devout French Soldier of God, and ending as an 800 year old Vampire is quite an experience. Getting to learn about the lore; setting, characters, history both factual and here say, the political intrigue between paranoid and selfish immortal beings, is just a treat. Best part about it is that Vampire The Masquerade has always been a personal horror story. How much of a monster are you willing to be in order to further your goals, your survival, and to secure your continued eternal existence? Of course, they don't explore that aspect of it too heavily. You get choices in the game, but I don't recall it being as much of a lose-lose situation when it came to said choices. Normally, in a VTM story, you're forced into a corner. The corner has a sign that tells you moral purity isn't an affordable commodity in the World of Darkness, and then it makes you choose between saving your own hide at the cost of humanity or to show mercy and essentially risk breaking the masquerade or becoming a target by somebody more powerful. There's some of this, but not too much. Also the choices are more complicated then that, but that should give the most basic picture. I feel that Bloodlines was better at this. Anyway, the game is awesome despite it's shortcomings, and it's slight inaccuracies of how you seem to just learn disciplines that aren't inherent to your clan without the proper time and training, but it's a video game so that doesn't matter that much. Just play the damn thing. Then go play Bloodlines (with the unofficial patch of course) and realize the genious and masterpiece that is VTM before V5 came out. Oh, and remember Kindred. It is the blood of Caine, that makes our fate.

I played this in the year 2000. I played it with my band mates, co-op, using mods to make it look like Star Trek TNG. I played the crap out of it as a kid, and then ... nothing until recently. I had some issues with the GOG version, but this Steam Version? It just works. I just played it for the past two hours, and it was like I was 21 years old again. Only instead of a Pentium 1 with MMX, I can play this on my old, outdated Surface Pro, and it works amazingly well. Of course, this time I don't have as much patience to grind for XP, so I'm using the "-console" cheat to raise Christof's stats, lmao. God, it's fun to play like it's Y2K again. lmao
