I've dipped in and out of this on Xbox One for about 3 years now and always thought I'd like to try this with a wheel. When I spotted this on sale on Steam I picked it up and fired up my G29. It's awful.
I pondered over the refund option for a bit - then thought I'd just give it a go on controller. Pad + high FPS is awesome - this is just an arcade game - no wheel required. Yes it's more Sega Rally 2 over the beautiful original but that's good enough for me. Well worth it on sale.

Unskippable cutscenes and an annoyingly talky narrator mar an amazingly fun off road racer. Fantastic handling, great visuals, and very 'Sega Rally'.
Needs a hack/patch/mod called 'Skip the fucking cutscene', and another called 'Shut the fuck up, dude'.

The game is incredibly buggy and poorly optimised. It frequently freezes at the start of a race and has several game-breaking bugs that force the game to quit. If these issues were addressed, I would have recommended it. Save yourself the frustration.
It's disappointing because the game itself is actually fun. It offers a variety of named cars, plenty of tracks, and visually appealing scenery. The "story," though cringey and old-school, features real actors, which adds a bit of charm.
As a Brit, I found the British commentator didn't quite fit the game's overall aesthetic. Over time, it became grating, and I often found myself skipping the dialogue.
In terms of gameplay, the off-road driving mechanics are solid, but the constant bugs and freezes make the experience more frustrating than enjoyable. I'd recommend looking into other off-road driving games to scratch this particular itch.

I really miss arcade rally game like old dirt series, motorstorm, etc. This game can bring back those memories. Damn, really recommend this game. Specially when discount. 10/10
