You move at the speed of light if you don't hold the slow down button. Your bullets take up half the screen and are so distracting I can't tell what's going on.
Overall, It's pretty good.
Pros: [*]A challenging game. I'm personally not very good at these types of games, but the difficulty increase was pretty good. [*]Fairly Smooth controls with a controler. It tracks mouse pretty well. [*]A game that you can just jump into at any time. (kinda, but that exception is in cons) [*]Very Arcade-like. High score, and a full story playthrough (in one sitting) is expected. [*]Really good bosses. They can really tear up the field if you don't manage things well. A steap learning curve with some, but once you get a feel for the paterns, it gets a bit more enjoyable. [*]I love the added melee attack/reflect move. It can help in a pinch but also leaves you open for a few moments. Making it not as cheap as one may think. [*]There's a slow down button for fine tuning. (I never used it though.) [*]A great soundtrack! Cons: [*]If you quit mid-game, it won't save your progress. It only saves your high score from a completed story and unlocked characters. [*]There can be some cheap deaths, but most of the time it's due to the player, more so than the game. [*]There's the classic "We turn into bullets when we die" enemies that just flood the game after a few levels. Normally, that's ok. However, it can become very annoying to deal with [*]Some poor translation (I personally don't mind, but I can understand why some may dislike this, so I put it in cons.) I'm not finished with all the character stories, but I am enjoying what I've seen so far. I'd recommend this to whoever is looking for a good challenge. It's not for everyone, sure. However, it's pretty good for those who like bullethell or arcade shoot 'em up games.

disclaimer : I give no recommendation to the game that is unplayable only (game crash too much , long hour save file is broken or anything that prevent you to finish the game). I did not see how "recommendation or not" reflect that game enough. it's even worst that score system your better off watch first impression or read review summary instead. First impression: +Nice character design both Main character and enemy +Nice background art +Nice looking bullet hell , an eye candy +Cathcy bgm - why start in widow mode with low resolutin ???? in-game graphic resolution setting can done after character selection only ??? why?? - tutorial is not that good - it's controller support but it need more indicator for joy controller. indicator for which bottun do which only for key board. player can see and adjust joy controller in option, though. -visual and sound feed back when got hit is too low and lack rumble feedback for joy controller too. -/+ I still only play 2 level so I don't know much about their lv. design but so far seem to be on casual side. - ranking still bug , I can't open it edit : - give me motion sickness , I normally get this sympton when play top down bullet hell in my opnion , this is medicore bullet hell game at it's best

Starry Night: Helix is surely one of the most painful cases that I've gotten disappointed by a video game. The art is fantastic and I really dig the soundtrack. But the gameplay? I am so let down... The very first thing that feels very wrong is the character's movement speed. The main character simply moves way too fast; an issue that is not very visible at first, but starts to cause trouble as soon as you get to more difficult patterns, requiring you to keep holding the slow movement button. This especially becomes a problem in the bossfights as the game suddenly shifts from a very easy game with very easy patterns to a more challenging one. I also do believe there is something wrong with the hit point of your playable character. I noticed that in the aforementioned bossfight, the playable character was getting hit even though the projectiles barely missed her. I reckon either the hitbox of some projectiles or the character is bigger than what it looks like. Next, we have the usual problem of many shmup games: Visual clarity issues. The main character constantly shoots barrages of bright blue projectiles that take a large portion of the screen, effectively concealing the projectiles that the enemies shoot at you. Not only that, enemies also leave large yellow collectables behind in the form of gems and powerup coins after death. Combine these two with busy backgrounds of some levels, an example being Neverland with a lot of colorful objects moving in the background, and you can see how this creates one of the worst cases of visual mess as a result. And finally, there's no saving in middle of the game. The game does not save your progress and if you quit to the main menu by any reason, whether it be by mistake or anything else, it forces you to start from the beginning. Now this is not an uncommon thing for shmups to do; but since Starry Night: Helix presents itself as a story-driven shmup experience, as evident with the dialogue sections before and after each level (albeit with poorly worded sentences that are full of grammatical errors), and the overall feeling of the game is also more leaning towards being boring and lengthy thanks to its difficulty, I believe progression saving was totally necessary here. Overall, Starry Night: Helix is an unfortunately disappointing shmup. While the art is amazing and the soundtrack is pleasant to listen to, the gameplay does not have the same level of quality put into it and suffers from major issues.

It's not very good. The levels are not well designed and the difficulty jumps around. There are a lot of overly resilient enemies. If you concentrate fire on them from the moment they show up until they leave the screen, you just barely kill them. Score items magnetize to you, but gun powerups do not, meaning you want to maneuver carefully to pick them up. This would be fine, except there are a lot of enemies with suicide shots??? What kind of design is it to have both suicide shots and pickups come out of the same enemy? You have a melee attack that deflects bullets, but it charges so slowly that you basically have to know the level in advance to use it. The characters are cute but there's not much to the story. Translation is really bad as well.

I enjoyed the characters and colorful graphics but the game is way too difficult in comparison to other Shoot 'em ups such as Death Smiles or Gundeadligne. The characters are interesting enough but the poor translation makes it a bit difficult to fully connect with the characters or even understand the story. If there were the option I would give this a neutral rating because I don't hate it enough to give it a negative rating but it also doesn't fully deserve a positive rating. Pros: Colorful graphics, interesting characters, fun stage themes, decent soundtrack Cons: Poor translation, Extreme difficulty

Not too easy and not too difficult "Bullet Hell" with nice graphics and soundtrack. There are four characters In the game. Each of them has its own gameplay features and story line. The game has only one drawback - it is a plot, A random things will be Your opponents: toys, robots, magical creatures and You do not get clear explanation of what is happening for a really long time. If You are hardcore player and you like anime, I recommend this game.
