Now this is how you do a turn based game with this IP, just wish there was more games like this that are actually good

So Far I like the feel of the game. Have only played 16 hours and early in the first campaign. Thought I had a decent fleet and then I met my match, losing all my ships and only with a handful of vipers and the station, shot down the last two cylone ships.

Turn based style space warfare.. this game is great but its HARD AS BALLS!!. the campaign mode is fun, the game has a very steep learning curve.. if you're into turn based games think 'warhammer 40k' then you'll probably like this.. it is very hard though.. top quality turn based game which you'd expect from 'slitherine'.

I definitely like the concept but not the end result... As a paying customer, the hours actually played (since the number is obviously over inflated, as by the time I have reached 50h I was barely at turn 26-28 of the first campaign) are justified by the value of the concept. At the same time I am nearly equally disappointed in my purchase because the producer of this service, of this game inspired by a beloved sci-fi series, didn't saw fit to give it a little bit more polish not even after it saw its immense success. As a harcore gamer the negative review is simpler to justify on the basis that the concept is not being pushed to a more complete/decent state (qualitatively) and it didn't go far enough in terms of innovation. For example, there are no mods because the "IP holder doesn't like them" - OK, that's an excuse!! How about making some features configurable so we don't need mods then? As a harcore player of the strategy genre and sci-fi titles and as an amateur animation and 3d art creator I just can't help but to wonder if it was so difficult to add it in the game files or in an editor the option to modify a specific ship to have MORE squadrons that could be launched at the same time, or MORE ordinance bays, or default counter-measures (for battlestars) so that they don't take an entire missile slot (which is limited as it is), OR the ability to make fleets larger etc, etc... very simple stuff that the game already needs to function and it is basic programming to make the UI adaptable to configurable parameters that are read from a text file or DB type format. Now you might consider this irrelevant if you're not into modding games (fraking console players, amirite?)... but tell me how epic is it that you unlock the Galactica just before the end of the main story and it has a less impressive ordinance arsenal then the Minerva-class battlestar that you get to use a little more??? This is in my review because the way the game is balanced is flawed and it could have been EASILY fixed with modding or making the game a little bit more configurable. As an enthusiast of the genre and harcore gamer, I'm not just going to criticize, I have specific ideas to suggest (even though my criticism is not about the specific ideas missing but that not enough was done). I propose HACKING as a more involved mini-game, as a proposal of a feature that could have been greatly expanded with DLCs when they saw the success of the game. It's obviously a core concept in the lore of BSG and electronic hacking is poorly covered in sci-fi in general (it works like magic buffs rather than actual computer/networks/operating systems hacking). Given the turn based format of this title, a more complex hacking mechanic could have easily been used (at least defensively, since that is the lore). If they pushed the envelope a bit more with smaller features just like this, not necessarily this one, then I would have had to flip my review... but all things considered I don't think veteran gamers should recommend this even if they enjoy parts of it and have decided to support the developer anyway. Now, if you don't mind getting screwed over as a customer with your purchase of a FULL title (considering all or most DLCs in the value analysis) and you just have disposable 60-80 euros/dollars and you just want to try out novel ideas that other studios have also failed to explore properly, then sure, this is better to explore than a lot of other titles. But a review really needs to consider the value proposition of these release, doesn't it? And saying that if you have the time and the extra cash this could be on your list isn't exactly a stellar way to recommend something...

So much fun! While the game size and the mechanics might not be as complex as something like Battlefleet, this game is very refined. It uses its game play mechanics to the fullest. One of my personal favorite space strategy games.

This is my perfect BSG game. I honestly can't think of anything they could've done better to fit with what I would've wanted out of the experience. Well done and as soon as I'm not broke I'll be picking up the DLC!
