Life before death. Strength before weakness. Gameplay before graphics.

Decent game for under $20 that I got it for, but I wouldn't recommend asking price of $40 plus the extra $85 for the DLC/addons. I love the Battlestar Universe and turn-based games. I only got the base game and It offers little replay value with minimal gameplay of 1 campaign and barebones skirmish. The base campaign and gameplay was fun and kept me entertained. But after playing a bit I began to think: "why cant i do this?" or "why isnt this here?". It has limited gameplay options such as: only a few ships with base game so they can charge you more money $ for the multiple DLC/addons with others, limited in 3d orientation for ships (ie ship always flat on y+z plane while traveling forward and up or down on x axis, cannot pitch nose of ship up or down), and cannot roll ship at all. What really sucks is the fact that no mods allowed, which makes me sad because so much could be done with this. Finished it in a couple days, with probably half the 43 hours of playtime was me leaving the game on overnight. I have no urge to fork over $5-15 for each of the 8 DLC packs (total of $85) of ships and/or story content because not sure if it would be worth it.

Battlestar Galactice Deadlock is a turn based strategy game. It's beautiful to look at. It never gets old to see barrages of missiles clash against flac screens. I prefer playing the campaign because there is also a strategic map overview, which makes you delegate your forces and split up your fleets. Unfortunately, after the campaign missions end you're directed back at the main menu. I would have liked to see a larger systems/strategic map with multiple cylon spawn points that also makes use of the modern ship pack. Note that the modern ship pack cannot be used in the campains, which is a real shame. I feel like such a feature is not difficult to add (perhaps even custom system maps and missions can be supported) and would greatly benefit the game.

Normally I don't review games but this one deserves the grace of it because it's a great strategy game and the campaign is a brilliant journey and reminds me of the like of Battlefleet Gothic campaign maps. The combat is challenging and rewarding in the sense that you have to turn a ship to the correct direction in order to have the weapons engage to full effect. There's more satisfying than turning off the flak on Battlestar's, after surviving a Cylon missile barrage and then turning about to have a full frontal barrage from the front artillery, wiping out everything in their path. They you can set out fleets for specific roles as well has given me a lot of options when designing the make up of fleets to engage the enemy. And moving around the campaign is a challenge having to decide if you need to sacrifice resources to get somewhere quickly. Overall I love the way this game operates and I highly recommend anyone to give it a try. :)

Deadlock has to be one of my favourite games, there is so much done right here. The only shame is that the studio hasn't made another game using this engine considering how amazing it would be for most sci fis with a few tweaks

I get it, you watched the reboot show and you can't get enough of it. Well good news, this should at least fulfill your fantasy of being a battlestar captain. It's also made by the same guys who made STAR WARS: EMPIRE AT WAR so if you enjoyed that game, I definitely recommend giving this a go!
