Look, I LOVE Hotline Miami, but that one, the clear inspiration, has: 1. Kill everyone in an area Compared to: 1. Shout at everyone until they surrender 2. If they try to run or don't comply, melee them (even if they have a gun in their hands you can't shoot) 3. If they pull a gun, you have a reaction speed test before they oneshot you 4. Every time you don't kill someone, you have to go up and arrest them (slightly buggy animation) 5. Every enemy with a weapon leaves evidence to pick up, same evidence spawns around the map as well 6. Certain mandatory bonus objectives appear as well I'm not saying adding more mechanics is a bad thing, just that in a skill based game you need quick restarts when you mess up so it doesn't get annoying to re-do the same portions of a level several times in a row It gets even worse since you don't see people until they're in line of sight, so sometimes suspects can draw their weapons before you see them- unless you shoot everyone on sight (which you can't do because of the penalities) you're restarting Intravenous 2 got off the hook because it had (limited) saves during each mission (and less slow ass objectives, stealth gameplay is still better even though I'm not the bigest fan of it)

Quite a nice game on the surface, nice idea, nice art and etc. the problem of this game resides on it´s balancing, its not hard to notice that playing the game non lethally is far more overpowered than what would be considered "normal" in any other game (though this one is clear in the police-ish non lethal part) still, i think it needs to be a little bit balanced. also the online is utter and complete trash sometimes. apart from that, it´s a pretty solid co-op experience.

like Ready or Not meets Hotline Miami pretty fun. I have been doing a no kill run and makes the game a little more challenging.

I bought this game from the Tactical Top-Down bundle after having finished Intravenous II, which is quite possibly the best Top-Down shooter I've ever played. From the store, I expected a mix of IV2 and Ready or Not, and while it does have elements of both, it's so much worse at being a shooter than IV2 and so much worse at being a cop game than Ready or Not, that it just doesn't have much to offer. The guns and tactical equipment feel slow and unwieldy, and are incredibly inaccurate, with automatic weapons having laughably low fire rates and semi automatic weapons like your pistol not actually firing as fast as you can pull the trigger, not that you should use guns at all, since criminals can be subdued with a single punch when they'd otherwise take multiple shots to take down. The social/police elements are, quite frankly, baffling. I've seen criminals walk up to me without shooting, letting me take them down for free, and civilians running into a room full of armed gunmen. The points system is also very odd, sometimes doing things like penalizing the player with "Unauthorized use of force" for shooting a man running at them with a knife after having warned him to put it away, or not penalizing the player for flashbanging a room full of civilians or beating the shit out of people after they've handcuffed them. If you can look past the bad gunplay and the inconsistent social mechanics, Police Stories is "Okay", but it's just worse at what it does than its contemporaries, which is a shame, because I could see the game being a real gem if it was better than it currently is.

It's a solid game with solid gameplay. I hope the 2nd part has a more engaging loop. Here it's just: open door -> run to anyone -> hit him in the face -> lock him up. I played solo and spammed my partner, maybe that was the problem. If you don't play the non lethal way it's just a worse hotline miami.

Looks like Hotline Miami but its the exact opposite. Its pretty mediocre by itself but co op is fun. + Graphics are great, i liked the cutscenes as well. + Co op is great and the main reason to play the game. + Gameplay is fun, using tactics and cautious approach is rewarded, going in guns blazing is not. - Story sucks, it doesnt make much sense and is very basic. - Game is pretty buggy, there are stuck loading screens, random bugs during gameplay that force you to restart the map. - When alerted enemies seem to have insane reaction time on, almost like using an aimbot. This makes combat not fun. - DLCs suck - both are half baked and seem more like mods than official content. - 20€ is pretty steep for such a short game. - Gets pretty repetetive 5 hours in. Overall its worth only if you want to go play with your friend, otherwise this game doesnt have much to offer.
