Kudos to the developers for the recent update!
Artstage has the potential to become a powerful and viable 3D modeling tool, although it has been collecting dust in my steam library for over a year and a half simply because it's competitors have better marketing strategies (and it had performance issues.)
It's bigest strength is combining classic box modeling techniques with UV unwrapping and layered RGBA texture map painting (including vertex painting), capable of exporting PSD and FBX formats.
That's something that I consider a valuable scarcity nowadays and I would love to see it develop in that direction.
I was thinking of asking for a refund when I first purchased it and even though the asking price seems fair in the long run, it might be keeping potential buyers at bay. However with the recent update I feel optimistic about it's future.

To anyone considering purchasing this program, I just wanted to say that the author(s) have implemented a great feature that I haven't found on any other 3D paint program (including TiltBrush).
What this program allows you to do, is to import 3D models (I brought in a 3D scan using the "sturcture" scanner from structure.io) and then paint on it. Unlike TiltBrush, it isn't creating new geometry that you can choose the color for, but it is creating the UV texture map for your exisitng 3D object. I believe you can then export the model for use in another 3D program but I haven't tried it.
What is especially promising is that when this import 3D model feature was introduced, the paint feature did not work. However the author listened to the feedback on the discussions (I'm kimtheo) and seems to have fixed it. Kudos to him/her/them.
Unfortunately, the model I used didn't get the existing texture map impoted properly (but that may have been my problem). Anyway, I have hopes that the author will be able to fix this as well. I strongly recommend that anyone who wants to use this program for serious creative tasks looks into it; coupled with a 3D scanner/CAD model it could really be a useful way of seeing how your exisitng designs look in color.

While some key feature are still in development, I really like where this project is going. The creator has been really receptive to suggestions and so far those I've given were implemented quite quickly, such as "smooth shading" and the ability to change the angle of your paint tool. They've also now added a github page for feature requests.
The Pros:
-Classic Mesh Modeling. While most VR mesh apps focus on volumetric creations, this will let you work directly with vertices, edges, and faces, and will likely be of interest to those coming from Blender or Maya.
The Cons:
-It's a work in progress so some features are still taking shape.
-PROPER TEXTURE PAINTING IN VR! Almost no one else is doing this! I'm so happy they are! You can even create basic layers in a similar fashion to Photoshop or Gimp while painting directly on the model.

This is I think the best one of these I have used. A few things are a bit ruff but it is functional and has great potential.

This is the most efficient and full-fledged poly-modeling tool I've been able to find to use in VR. It's great and helped me a lot with retopology. I'm glad I've bought this, much appreciate work done by autor of this software, but still hope there will be two tools added during future updates: "bridge tool" to build poly between two selected edges and "cap hole" tool to create surface in place of enclosed edge loop.

Amazing Software!!! can't believe it isn't more known.
I picked up VR primarily for sculpting and 3D modeling, and have tried every tool on the steam marketplace. ArtStage is the by far the best poly modeling software in VR. Despite being early access the developer has put so much care into the latest build, that I've encountered zero bugs. In short unlike other VR modeling software ArtStage is very stable.
ArtStage has all the essential tools and functions needed to make practical ploy models, and to manage clean and consistent edge flow. With it's OBJ export option it's easy to import your models into blender, for cleaning and final touches.
Hats off to the developer!

This is the definitive version of the easiest to use polygon modeling software for VR.
There are many sculpting modeling software, but software that specializes in polygon editing and works in VR is rare.
I hope this great software will reach many people.
Finally, I would like to thank the developer.

This is just the best 3d design software. Being able to polybuild by triangle while walking around in real space... It's just the best. I wish there was a native Quest 2 port soooo bad. Right now the hoops to jump through to get ArtStage to run on the Quest 2 is goofy. I would buy it again...

Tried this out for a few minutes. Functionality wise it is probably the most wide raningn art creation program that I have come across for the Vive in that you can both sculpt and paint in it. That said it is very much an early access program, sometimes jittering on my 1080 without supersampling. While I currently prefer the sculpting in this program to Kodon for roughly creating the initial shape of an object, it currently lacks the precision to sculpt in a precise fashion.

Very promising program. The author often updates it, which is important. There are tools for modeling and texturing. As a result, you can export both model and texture to game engines.
Thanks to the developer for the diligence!
