I never thought I would see so much of the occult despite the name of the game. I went back and found the entire Department of Education in this game. Been wondering where they were this whole time. 3/10, Lazarus is the GOAT.

Daniel mullins, famous for Pony Island and Inscryption has another game which seems to go under peoples radar. Thats this right here. If you played those games you know what to expect of this. For those who aren't used to his games, I highly recommend this and the rest of his games and for you to go in blind. If you care about how this compares to his other games or just straight up want to know why its worth your time, then this is the review for you. The hex is an extremely difficult game to summarize, there are a lot of parts going on here, it starts with 6 game characters meeting in a room, throughout the game you will learn more about these characters as well as the games they come from. Story wise its a master piece. It tells a story that could only ever be told through a video game. Your interaction constantly plays a role. The game will constantly throw curve balls the second you feel comfortable with whatever is going on. The way it looks at video games really made me think about what this medium represents, it confronts you with what a video game is, what goes into it, and with some honestly depressing things that happen in this industry. By the end you will end up caring a lot about what these characters are going through. It moves you emotionally and constantly keeps you on your toes for what is next. If I have any complaints about the story, it would be that there are some insanely well hidden secrets that are too difficult to find on your own, besides that it also sometimes can be a very disturbing game, it all adds to the immersion and the incredible story, but at times it can feel like a bit much. Gameplay wise I think the game does have flaws. The game never feels like its a REALLY good game from a gameplay perspective, its not a great platformer, its tactics won't make you think a lot about what is going on, and its puzzles probably won't stump you. And throughout a big chunk of the game you have to deal with the really slow walking/ movement speed the game gives you. That being said, I don't think this killed the enjoyment for me at all, it takes a bit of getting used to, but everything here serves to elevate the main story. And just like all of Daniels games, I will remember this story if I like it or not. All of it is just so unique, so extremely out of the box, and it feels like the game knows exactly what im thinking as im going through all of it. Its the hallmark of someone that has done a lot of effort testing his games to make sure they understand what their players are going through. Overall if you enjoy story driven games, you will probably like this game.. If you want more Daniel, you have to play this game. This to me gets a very big recommend, I can't even compare it to both of daniels other games because this once again is so extremely unique. Its a very cheap game that also has a relatively short play time, to me this is a game a lot of people should play.

I have played this game for a while now and i gotta say "WOW." the way the storyline took me with me was fun, i loved how nostalgic the game SWK is, it made me think about some games i had played back in the days, for people who love solving little puzzles and play different games with some of them having different endings (crashing them xD) this game is for you, i love it! 10/10

Great game, loved it! All the nods to gaming culture are real fun, but it's impressive that they get tied into the story in a meaningful way. And the later parts where you get some genre melding are awesome!

daniel mullins is a genius. this game will show you muliple stories from different angles, filled with various types of gameplay, which will form into one, filled with love to videogames sad story. these stories not only shows problems of the developer, but also, problems of the videogames that we couldnt be silent about. atmosphere and gameplay is more than enough for this game to be considered as a classic. if you love videogames and count them as art, this game is for you. buy it. 12/10 also, try Pony Island and Inscryption. trust me.

Weird self-referential game about making video games. Def worth a play for the story. Plus the devs made Inscryption, and you gotta play everything they have once you've played that.
