Hmm
Look good, but its kinda weird.
Its not a sub commander sim.
UI is kinda messy and inconsistent. Lots of micromanaging.
Really tried to get into it, but unability to turn on the compressor put me off.
Goin back to modded SH3.
Will take a look again in a year.

A good game for history buffs. Love the tension of knowing the enemy is above me, and searching, but unable to zero in on me. Put on Das Boot and just play!

I bought this when my Silent Hunter 5 finally stopped working with the latest windows update. I really like this new game and find it better than the Silent Hunter series. The crew does their jobs without me having to tell them for the most part. So you can truly be "Captain" of the boat. Graphics are good and play so far has been challenging, but not impossible to figure out.
It would be nice if there were ways to set more standing orders. Like whenever the ship surfaces, turn on the air compressor to refill the reserves. If you forget, can be a problem.....
But on the whole, it's an excellent game!

Why does time compression constantly put me in a situation where the hostile ships just spawn next to me since the game didn't register their presence until after coming out of time compression. It's like having random hostiles teleport directly to you. Not only is it immersion breaking its extremely annoying...

Really good spiritual successor to the Silent Hunter series. Only comments I have would be that sometimes the route plotting is a little wonky and likes to route onto shoals for no reason (e.g. plotting a route out of wilhelmshaven will sometimes just end up grounding you). Also it's maybe in slightly poor taste to have a mission to sink the HMS Royal Oak which actually was sunk at the cost of over 800 lives in the exact same fashion in real life- it's a good mission but maybe could have just given it a fake name. Not a big deal though, at least to me.

Would I recommend this game? Absolutely. I am a major history buff so obviously this game interested me off the cuff, there aren't too many Uboat games available today to sate the appetite of a true underwater warfare experience, so having this one come out is fantastic. In addition, the devs are extremely active both with patches and fixes and receptive to community feedback as well as open to assisting those with issues, which is not common, especially with what had been an Early Access game.
+ Extremely fun WW2 submarine simulator, with the ability to make it as realistic as you wish.
+ Developers who are active and open to feedback and provide constant updates to make the game even better
+ Game has missions that are historically accurate with links to sources where you can find more information about said missions (a really cool feature!)

45 yrs later and we finally got a movie tie-in game for Das Boot
Jokes aside this is a very good game that I expected to refund and ended up getting really into naval warfare
Needs A LOT more tutorials for new people who are not coming from other games but aside from very solid mechanics, the game is utterly stunning at times. Especially for an indie studio!
The first person mechanic is extremely cool and really lets you get immersed but needs a bit of work as there are a lot of glitchy animations and artifacts that occur (Not nearly enough to be take away from the vibes)
Overall, on this current sale. It is great value for money

I bought two books, and watched several videos, spent probably 20 hours researching U-boat tactics and how to operate my U-boat. I wanted to replicate (in a much lesser degree) the knowledge an actual U-boat crew might have received so I could better understand the game I was about to play and discover a greater appreciation for the men that served in them. Now I'm certainly no Historian, nor a general in any military, but I am certainly no stranger to strategy as well, with 300 hours playing Hell Let Loose and studying WWII tactics I thought I'd be able to breeze my way through this game on the hardest difficulty with all the realistic settings with brainpower alone, but that's not exactly what happened. On my first patrol nothing of note really happened, on my second patrol I got shot at by a gunboat and had three casualties (One dead and two wounded) on my third patrol I sunk a merchant ship with my AA gun because I was too close for torpedoes it wasn't pretty and took 700 bullets and about three in game hours to sink. I also sunk my second vessel which was a gunboat that had given me much trouble before, this time without any damage or casualties. But just minutes after this I got ambushed by 4 ships at once I wasn't hit by the gunfire but being in shallow water it was the depth charges that got me. I desperately tried to fix the damage done to my ship but the water was up to our mouths so fast. It was at that point I knew we were dead. It was also very sad, knowing that real people experienced this. I watched as one by one my crew drowned, it felt so very unfair, nothing in my 'training' could've prepared me for this. But alas war is war, no matter if you're holding a rifle or operating a submarine. I'd like to say it was some kind of glitch that made those boats appear seemingly out of nowhere but the men serving aboard those boats would've never had the luxury of knowing either. Either way it was a gut wrenching, heart pounding experience, all 15 hours of it lol. There are of course some bugs with the map that were frustrating, but all in all a good experience.

Very complicated for someone coming from games made for troglodytes, but it's somewhat fun trying to learn how things work. Unfortunately, the game doesn't teach you enough from the tutorial and a lot of things you have to go to YouTube or look up in the u boat encyclopedia to learn. I just wish the game did a better job of teaching you how to play it.
