Maybe the first city-builder I've been truly addicted to since childhood. A-Train starts off as a deceptively simple transportation management sim, that slowly devolves into simulatory madness. This isn't just a game about trains, cars and operating schedules, it's an alternate-universe Simcity which *starts* with trains and cars, and ends with zoning, stock markets, residential/industrial/commerical building and zoning, stock markets, and going public. It's crazy. I've never played anything like it before. The tutorials take forever to get through, but that's kinda necessary given how deep it all goes. Also you can customize the soundtrack playlist in-game, which is awesome. It's no Jerry Martin, but it maintains a pleasant, cosy tone. The day/night cycle, weather, seasons, and era-appropriate theming also go a long way to preventing things from feeling too samey. I love this game. I don't have train autism, I don't really care about trains, but the way that all your transportation networks is a marvel to watch. Unfortunately it's incredibly expensive and I can't recommend it unless it goes on deep sale.
