Asymmetric masterpiece! Never has a shooter felt so great with these two factions. And with the RTS base building of the commander role it cements itself as one of the all time genre expanding gems. A great sequel to memories of the past.

I loved playing Natural Selection 2 for the longest time and occasionally played it as a decent RTS FPS I would have left a positive review for the game for years, but as of July 2025 I cannot support this game.

don't buy this game; it's dead, dominated by veteran players, and predominantly toxic in culture. To make it worse, if you are banned by the clan gaming group, that pretty much precludes you from interacting with 90% of the player base (~90 of the ~100 or so active players) as they host nearly all of the active servers.
The toxic culture is such that if you play well on a new account, some people will accuse you of "smurfing" (when you play on an alt account) and will ban you *permanently* despite their clearly ever shrinking player base and the fact that they can't prove that you even have other accounts to play on. That was a disappointing outcome, especially considering that, on most of the newb server I played, I was one of the few people with a microphone.
I hope they release a sequel to this, but that's highly unlikely given that the IP is locked up and this game was largely a commercial-critical failure as evident by the lack of a player base. Too bad. Natural Selection 1 was a fun game to play in the 2000s.
