Bayonetta is a really fun game, but there are SO MANY BUGS!!!! sometimes you'll soft lock yourself because you jumped too fast into something, invisible characters in cut scenes, and even maps not fully loading within the actual game, I've gotten soft locked mid fight and couldn't defeat the enemy even though it showed no health.
Besides the bad things the game is actually really fun, the cut scenes are well made and add to the stories, the moves and Technics you can use grows as you play the game, you gain more weapons and after finishing a 30 minuets game section you get to play an angel shooting mini game.
Played this on the SteamDeck

Very good

The game is good, it has an interesting story

Fighting is fun. Very flexible, lenient and over-the-top.

Enemies are well designed

Gorgeous protagonist

Interesting and funny random events

The scenes are nice to watch and exaggerating

This game clearly does not give a fuck

But sometimes...

The chapters, wherein you actually play the game, are very short

Too many cutscenes, less gameplay

There are so many moves you can buy and try, and do many combinations with your playstyles. However, it doesn't really pay off when the game time per chapter is so short and not a lot of enemies pop up.

Stupid QTE, that makes me die everytime.
Overall the game is recommendable, but I wouldn't say I would go do another playthrough with this one. DMC is worthy of replayability, but this one is not.

Here I am downloading Bayonetta again. I've completed it on Normal difficulty, and gave up on the harder difficulties because the controls are very difficult on keyboard. But after not touching it for almost a year, I realized I was browsing my library and craving the combat and fun punchy scenes that are in this game. The story won't knock your socks off, but the characters are fun, the cutscenes are entertaining and the combat is just seamless when you get in the zone. If you have not played this before, I highly recommend. It is a fun, short game with lots of personality.

I love this game: the graphics (tho it can be pointy sometimes), finishing moves, dynamics (overall movement and fighting mechanics), and even the story are all really good.

A Stylish, Over-the-Top Action Masterpiece
Bayonetta is a game that fully embraces its over-the-top nature, delivering some of the most satisfying and stylish combat in the hack-and-slash genre. Developed by PlatinumGames and directed by Hideki Kamiya, the game brings a level of polish and depth that instantly reminded me of Devil May Cry in both gameplay structure and feel. However, Bayonetta takes that formula to new heights with its unique mechanics, insane set pieces, and a protagonist that oozes confidence.
Gameplay – Fluid, Flashy, and Deep
The core gameplay is where Bayonetta truly excels. Combat is fast, fluid, and packed with depth. The combo system is incredibly flexible, allowing for seamless transitions between melee and ranged attacks. The game encourages mastering Witch Time—an ability that slows down enemies when you dodge at the last second—which adds an extra layer of strategy to encounters.
The weapon variety is another major highlight. Each weapon has its own unique move set and can be mixed and matched to suit different playstyles. The game also rewards skillful play with satisfying finishers, brutal torture attacks, and some of the flashiest combos ever seen in an action game. If you've played Devil May Cry, you'll feel right at home here, but Bayonetta pushes the action even further with its own flavor of stylish mayhem.
Story & Characters – Fun, but Ridiculous
The story is absurd in the best way possible. You play as Bayonetta, an Umbra Witch who wakes up with no memory of her past and is thrust into a conflict between angels and demons. The narrative is packed with over-the-top moments, eccentric characters, and enough self-aware camp to make it entertaining, even if it doesn’t always make perfect sense.
Bayonetta herself is a fantastic protagonist—confident, stylish, and endlessly entertaining. Her dialogue and mannerisms give her a unique presence that sets her apart from other action game protagonists. The supporting cast is also enjoyable, though the plot itself is mostly there to serve as a backdrop for the insane action sequences.
Visuals & Sound – A Feast for the Senses
Visually, Bayonetta combines gothic and baroque aesthetics with surreal environments and dazzling effects. The character designs are bold and memorable, and the animations are some of the smoothest in the genre. While the original version of the game showed its age in some textures, later ports and remasters have improved the visuals significantly.
The soundtrack is a mix of energetic battle themes and jazzy, upbeat tracks like “Fly Me to the Moon,” which adds a unique and stylish touch to the experience. The voice acting is also solid, with Bayonetta’s performance standing out as particularly strong.
Boss Fights & Set Pieces – Spectacle at Its Finest
One of Bayonetta’s biggest strengths is its jaw-dropping boss fights and set pieces. The game constantly throws insane battles your way, from fighting on the side of a crumbling building to facing massive angelic creatures in mid-air combat. Every boss fight feels like a spectacle, pushing the player to master the combat mechanics while delivering some of the most visually stunning encounters in the genre.
Pros:
✔ Incredibly deep and stylish combat – Fast, fluid, and rewarding for skilled players.
✔ Witch Time mechanic – Adds a satisfying layer of strategy to dodging.
✔ Varied and creative weapon selection – Encourages experimentation with different playstyles.
✔ Memorable protagonist – Bayonetta is one of the most iconic characters in gaming.
✔ Amazing boss fights – Epic encounters that never fail to impress.
✔ Stylish visuals and fantastic soundtrack – A unique mix of gothic and jazzy aesthetics.
✔ Highly replayable – Tons of challenges, unlockables, and ways to improve your combat skills.
Cons:
✖ Story can be confusing – Fun, but often nonsensical.
✖ Occasional camera issues – The fast-paced combat can sometimes be hindered by awkward camera angles.
✖ Some platforming sections feel out of place – They break the flow of combat.
Conclusion
Bayonetta is an absolute must-play for action game fans. It takes the Devil May Cry formula and cranks everything up to eleven, delivering an experience that is fast, flashy, and endlessly fun. While the story might not be its strongest aspect, the combat, boss fights, and overall style more than make up for it. If you love deep, skill-based action games, Bayonetta is one of the best in the genre.

*edit* outside of the technical issues its still a very fun game yet very frustrating also. there are insane difficulty spikes at times and at certain points its a walk in the park. expect to load into a fight and immediately get stun locked and die
