Very cool and the 1.v update is so good. I actually got bored of the OG version and stopped playing midway through (at the mall part) The combat is way better than OG version. It was honestly very compelling and I really liked the story (as abstract and strange as it is) If you like shows/games with morally dubious protagonists like better call saul or ozark you will dig this. New music is great too. There's a Toby Fox one and i t's not even the best song (Vella's the goat) Alex still has a tendency to talk a bit too much but that's part of the charm. The NG+ is about half as long as the length of the actual game and it's great, although more linear. There are so many characters with their own motivations and personalities. Def recommend this game.
PS. I care about Rory.

A story in which the story actively tries to be misunderstood to make a point. If that kind of thing is up your alley, this game's one of the best at it. If that kind of thing seems like a lot of fun to make fun of, this game's one of the best at it. Being lukewarm to this kind of story is how you end up hating this game, so don't buy if your aren't interested one way or another in a story being genuinely challenging.

This is without a doubt one of the best games I've played in a long time and I can't stop thinking about it. I.V has made this game into a master piece and I think that anyone who likes RPGs should try out.

This is a really great rpg, with a mind bending narrative which feels fresh and novel. It gives you a lot to think about when it's over. This game is really a joy to play, with great music, art, and a fun combat system. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a big fan of rpgs. I played it on Switch and had to get it on Steam too. The load times are a big improvement on PC.

This game is a very interesting and passionate experience, I can say that much. It is very funny to play with friends, I did that pre- and post- IV update. The IV update makes the combat actually decent, it is a lot of fun, but it made everything else even more intolerable. I cannot actually recommend anyone to spend money on this unless its on sale and you are into playing stuff ironically.

Yiik : A Postmodern RPG is an RPG that takes place in the "90's" where you are told the events of the game by the main Character Alex Eggleston, or is it Eagleston? Now with the IV Update out Yiiks combat is very good and makes use of a new system, Karta which has plenty of depth and different ways to build your party. the game's sound track if amazing with some highlights being The Machine and the Crow, Fix My Self Hatred With a Haircut, and Original Sinners. And IV added a whole new chapter in ng+ that is truly amazing. overall I highly recommend Yiik.

I went into this game expecting a pretentious experience that would at least be fun to laugh at with friends. At time, that's what it was. And many, many times, it was one of the most enjoyable RPGs I've ever played. I do not regret playing it, and can wholeheartedly recommend it. The sheer absurdity of the plot coupled with a heartfelt, genuine message behind it, especially once you get past all of the pre-update content, made it worthwhile and extremely compelling and impactful.
Take a chance on it, and see it through to it's true conclusion, and you won't regret it.

YiiK is not a game. It is an experience and not a good one. YiiK’s 1.5 patch was something I was greatly looking forward to as a chance for the devs to address the criticism they recived and deliever on an idea that had both artistic merit as well as well as enjoyment for players. Instead what I get I a cynical jaded piece of media bemoaning the fact that the internet couldn’t understand the writer’s “genius”.
Let’s start witht he actual positives. The new cutscene cinematography is actually very well done. Shots where the lead Alex gives intermonoloufes are no longer static sprites and instead these deeply intimate focused piece with the model deliever ing wonderful body language while shots meant to convey unease or tension are zoomed in perfectly. Combat(More in this later) is enaging to an extent that I could see a refined version of it being highly engaging. The maps in the new content were actually extremely enjoyable to go through. They didn’t feel like big empty boxes like Frankton or several locations in the base game. Voice actting is phenomenal.
Now on to the bulk of the review. As I said early this game was an unpleasant experience. The mix of the old and the new is extremely jarring and the quaility contrast one another in ways that constantly ruined my immersion by constantly having my mind point it out instead of letting things flow. The Mind Palace(Level uo system) is now a collectathon and while okay to explore could’ve done with some quaility of life. Why must I talk indivially to my Karta(One form of equipment) to enhance them? This is sluggish and annoying to do when I just want to improve a system I am constantly engaging with. Skills are also located in the Mind Palace as well. This would be cool to go with the tools to explore dungeons; however, to often I ran into scenarios where I’d start exploring as I’d get a new tool, get nothing from an intended puzzle, come back later with a new party member, do the same puzzle and finally get the new skill. While I’m on Karta and Skills there’s a bad issue with them bith. Some skills are clearly designed to interact with Karta, but this is noticable only a one way relationship. Karta are inheritly boring. Only four with the games systems are unique in a way and one is highly situational. Now you can use Karta to perform a sort of super attacks, but because Karta’s act like shields meaning using the super attacks are stupidly deterimental in battle. It’s a confused system. Speaking of confused systems the bleed system. On breaking or having all of your Karta broke and then one attack afterwards puts you or the enemy in the bleed state. This is akin to Earthbounds rolling HP, but it doesn’t really matter. Bosses can range from 600 hp or more and because it always ticks at intervals of 1 hp it means NOTHING. It’s systems that feed into anither while not really complimenting each other..
Now I’ve put it off long enough, but it’s time to talk script. The script is pure garbage. The base game while not having a concrete direction at least had humanizing character moments that may present a character as a real breathing person (Alex, Rory, and Micheal in the train talking and the heavy metal scene stand out). The new content(Which one or two subjective moments) is dedicated to be purposely as vague as possible to build while attempting to build mystery, but in the end solely makes two characters insufferable for the purpose of being edgy and thus unlikeable which is a shame as it creates a further disconnect if the positives for the writing in the original version. Another issue is the introduction of Kisage X and the Blackened Pond. Aclear stand in for the games writer/‘s as a super genius quirky director who isn’t understood and the critic they recived for prior versions of there work. It’s clear they didn’t do self reflection and instead doubled down on everything making this a very cynical look on improvement.
YiiK is overall not an attempt to improve a product but to transform. Not for the better but a clear attempt to make the people engage with the creator’s insufferable genius. It’s a shame as I was hoping for a redemption arc, but all I got was someone diving deeper into an abyss of narcissism.
