Runes is not a bad game, but it's way too unpolished and buggy to recommend. Final fight is what really ruined the enjoyment for me, before it everything was good enough. Pros: + Decent puzzles with barely any hand-holding + Intriguing story. I still want to know, who the characters really are and what will happen to them + Gesture-based magic systems are always fun. And here you even get to actually aim your spells manually by throwing them, rather than sticking to auto-aim like in The Wizards Cons: - Twitchy item interactions spoil a lot of fun during puzzle sections - Visuals are quite ugly, screenshots make them look way better than they really are - Final fight is just awful. Who thought that it's a good idea to have very long and boring wave shooter section as the climax of narrative-driven adventure? Combat is very slow and trivial, but the worst part is that enemies can get stuck in the environment, preventing the player from finishing the fight. I've encountered this bug two times, decided that I've had enough of it and stopped playing

Good setting, interesting story and funny mechanics. Very good and solid game! The puzzles are not too hard and not too easy, they give satisfaction when you complete them. All aspects of this game have been taken care of. Finally a good and interesting VR game! :D

Fun story-based puzzle/action. It's a good example of what can be done with VR technology for gameplay, and has a good story driving the experience. I would love to see more content or longer games built around these ideas - I look forward to seeing what StormBorn produces next.

I thought it was going to be more of a wizard game. Ended up being more of a puzzle game. It was fun, and kept me wanting to play more. the last puzzle got me, and I had to go to a forum to find the answer. I would like more from this game, because it was fun. A bit more of the action wizard part. But over all this game was fun and had me coming back for more.

Hey all, I've played for a bit. The story definately pulled me in a little bit, the beginning is pretty cool. Graphix are really nice, no jumpiness, very smooth. Casting the spells is really cool too, I've done ice shield and flame of course fighting off the folks early on in the intro. I would say heck yea, worth the charge of a few movie theater visits. I'm happy with this for sure, 20 dollars seems like a nice deal and worth it. I will be keeping this game! Lately, I return most of the VR games I try, but this will be a keeper for me at least ! I don't do reviews ever, this might even be my first. I just know how early reviews are critical to the success of a game and I can tell some hard work and pride went into this for sure for an indie title like this... Congrats on the release !

This game starts with so much potential. The voice acting is a little rough, but the story and graphics and gamepley are good. But just when you're ready to get really get going, the game ends abruptly. I finished it in 83 minutes. WAY too short and not worth the money. What a shame... Well looking at the pics of the game on the store page I never saw that forest area. I like to explore and play a game completely so I don't know how that happened. The game should have guided me there or not let me skip it since I'm guessing it's part of the story progression. Must be a glitch. I had some other glitches too. I really did like the game a lot it's just too buggy and short. I understand you are a small team and I can overlook bugs in the beginning, but it could have been made longer by adding some more action sequences or fetch quests, etc. There doesn't have to be constant story.

Wow! I just finished the game, and I have to say that I really enjoyed it! For me, this game represents the perfect implementation of VR - there is a great story, plus intelligent 3D puzzles to solve, items to manipulate (the controls feel very natural) and there is a combat element that really puts your learmed spell skills to the test. I also thought the story telling was top-notch, very natural, and I loved the voice acting/narration. I've had my Oculus Rift since Christmas of last year, and this is my favorite game to date! On my system, the game ran flawlessly and I only had to "reboot" once because my ability to "grab" items was off - it could have been the Oculus itself, though, as I generally find all the USB devices a bit finicky sometimes. There are a few rough edges, and the game is a bit short (though I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase). I really hope this game develops into something more as it was really fun. I would love to see it taken to the next level!!! Thanks to the Developers! You guys/gals created a really fun, engaging experience! :) Edited 12/2/18: I just noticed that the review says I recorded only 1.1 hours on the game, but this is NOT correct. I usually load the game using the Oculus Tray Tool, and don't start Steam VR separately - not sure if that makes a difference or not. Anyway, I estimate that the game took me at least four (4) hours or so to complete, and that included probably about 30 minutes trying to figure out one of the puzzles.

DISCLAIMER : If anyone is doubting the validity of my review due to me only having 6 minutes in game, I played the game offline and the time did not sync up when I went online to post this review. I launched the game after beating it and let it run to get the time just so I could post this. Now, the review. Coming from HTC Vive POV Runes was a very enjoyable game, with fun puzzles and innovative ideas. The motion-based spell casting was very unique and made the game very fun and interactive. Overall, for the puzzle aspect of the game, I believe it was very good. The story was decent / good, nothing spectacular, but I did enjoy it. The movement can feel a bit weird at times, but overall does a decent job. The introduction of the 4th wall mechanic is interesting, but I found myself opting to use the normal walking and teleporting. I won't mark down anything for this because you can easily toggle it off. The game itself does have a few bugs, but considering it was made by a small team, it's very good for what it is. Voice acting is great on some characters, and meh on others. The game gives off a very good feel when playing it, and makes you just want to continue playing. One problem though, the game is relatively short. It leaves on a good cliffhanger for potential expansions though. Overall, this game is pretty fun to play, due to it's movement based spellcasting system and good storyline, along with interesting puzzles. While there are a few bugs, it's nothing that made the game unplayable. Some other reviewers have been talking about problems with the controllers, but that's from the oculus POV and I think they said something about fixing it (dont take my word for it). From the vive, there were no problems with the actual movements. I found myself engrossed in the game and played through the whole game in one sitting. If you like fantasy games / magic, along with puzzles, or if you just want an interesting story, this game is good for you. Was it worth? The 20$ I paid for this was definitely a fair price. Pretty good deal overall, as it was a quite enjoyable game. For a VR game, I give this 8/10, however, it has plenty of room for expansion. So if you have some spare money laying around and a headset, pick this game up. Devs are really nice too.

Well worth a play. I just finished this and honestly would not have bought it if I'd known it would be completed in 4 hrs. I'm glad I didn't know because it is honestly one of the best experiences I've had in VR to date. There's a genuinely engaging story and puzzles that have just enough breadcrumbs to make them solvable without being handed over freely to the player. I hope you guys make a million pounds and bring out a sequel cause you've left me genuinely wondering what's next.

Game now available with Oculus SDK option in Steam VR, should fix a couple cons for oculus users. I was worried as always when buying a new VR game, ready to refund asap if things seems rushed/incomplete however that was not the case here. Great game for the price if you like a decent story, I want more games like this but longer. The Story got me interested from the start. These guys really did a great job and I hope the best that this sells well to seed some possible story DLC and continure where this leaves off. Game needs some polishing but that's expected. Support these guys if you want more content like this, they have more they want to do...but gotta get that money. Pros: (keeping in mind this is a low budget studio most likely) Good Story Great voice acting Great animations Great enviroments Cons: Length as always, short but good...but I wanted more and I felt like what I got was decent gameplay. Puzzles are a bit boring/tedious and one puzzle was just guess work...unless a clue went over my head Some issues with linear progression of tasks...I was able to do task C before A and B (not game breaking, just confusing) Oculus controllers and hand models don't line up...they are rotated 90 degrees and tilted. So with palm facing out, spells go up and to the right at around 2 o'clock. (possibly solved by buying from Oculus store?)
Throwing the mask at the mirror was just guess work for me, perhaps I missed something
