This DLC improves Stardrive 2 a lot for me. First, i like the concept of Sectors that you can control and exploit. This helps to keep an overview of your empire. Second, the new victory conditions are a huge addition for me as i never like the eXterminate aspect in 4x games. I prefer to build up my empire, defend it and interact with other races when needed. Must be my Star Trek side. Third, there's a lot of new events/ quests that allows you to eXplorer and discover during a campaign. All in all, a great DLC really worth the price.

I bought this DLC to support the developer and because I really enjoyed the base game. The hope was that the DLC would fix problems and add content. I am happy to say that it does that. Not completely, you still have to over look some polish problems, some ballance problems, and hit that good old auto save up every onece in a while but overall and enjoyable experience. The hex system is better, the groud combat system is better, although it is more like a really good auto resolve system, (which I used 90% of the time anyways), the new victory types were much needed. I reccommend this to anyone that wants a fresh new taste of stardrive AND wants to support the deveopment of the game. Now some short advice/opinion for developer ZERO: The number one FREE thing Stardrive II needs currently is a fleet CP hard cap that limits both the size of a force SIMULTANIOUSLY engaging, just like a ground combat story mission. The owner should be able to select what ships in a sector he want to engage with. There should be a sider in game setup that controls a modifier of the empire CP limit from which engagment fleet CP whoud be determined. This way the max size of an engagement could be manually scalled with respect to game size and computer performance. The nuber one PAID thing StarDrive II needs is MULTIPLAYER. As it is the only thing that is going to convince me to buy more copies of the game. Open lobbies would be great, multipler senarios would be great, 3+ players in a campaigne would be great but, what is ABSOLUTLY NECESSARY is the ability to choose setitings, races, racial traits and inite a friend. That is where the money and player base expansion is.

I've played the DLC a few hours, but I've got a good amount of experience with the base game. This expansion makes very sensible choices in moving the game forward. The hex system really improves strategic play over territory, and because hex tiles will hold important resources and anomalies, it makes exploration and territory expansion more thoughtful and significant. This has really improved pacing in the early to mid game. The DLC also changes planetary ground combat, removing the 3D turn-based tactical system in favor of a more stat-centered sprite-based representation of planetary invasions, similar to MoO 2, that takes place within the strategic layer of the game. This change should matter to people who didn't like the 3D system, whether because of pacing or the tedium of controlling individual units. It's a positive change in my view, though if you preferred the 3D system, be aware of this change. This DLC really changes how you play StarDrive 2, so it's perhaps not traditional in the sense that many DLC simply add content. Sector Zero adds content, but it also fundamentally changes how you play StarDrive 2. If that appeals to you, I think it's worth your time.

The feature list looks promising but this has been very poorly tested, I've run into non-stop issues with this expansion. Games not loading, crashes to desktop, games freezing when transitioning from battle to starmap and vice versa, technology pickups giving duplicate techs but locking you out of the one you're researching. Shields randomly stop working, the game's a mess, I haven't been able to play a single game of it without something going wrong. It's been rushed out incomplete and badly tested and is not worth anyone's money in this state.

Sector Zero adds a lot of depth to an already deep game. I really like the new galaxy hexagon map layout and the control over where to send your fleets this map system offers. Having the ability to upgrade fuel stations into mining stations or even into starbases is akin to building forts along your borders. Just be sure your economy can handle the upkeep. Sadly there is only one area that spoils this DLC for me. (yes I'm recommending it despite this because there is a lot of good features with it that I feel other players will enjoy) The abstraction of planetary ground combat that now replaces the tactical turn based combat of the base game is the only negative for me. Whenever I purchase a space 4x game I always look for the titles that offer tactical ground combat and if it's turn based so much the better. Sector Zero takes that joy away from me. As a result I've uninstalled the DLC in favor of being able to play ground combat.

This is a massive improvement - more of a reimagining, really - of the base game and the best Star Drive experience to date. It is hex-based, which is a departure, but that is only the territoria mechanic and terrain grid. It doesn't effect fleet/ship movement mechanic which means, unlike some 4X games, this doesn't boil down to complicated space chess. This is still Star Drive. Which is not to say that terrain doesn't influence gameplay. It does. There are three types of nebula, all of which limit fleet speeds. A red nebula impinges on laser ranges in battle. The lightning-wreathed nebula deals damage to unshielded craft and the final type shorts out shields. Ships will tend to route (impefectly) around nebula unless ordered in or lured in, but this is not always the case. I have seen event-based fleets blow themselves up in lightning nebula. There are asteriod fields and also black holes which throttle fleet speeds even further. Both of these, and other special terrain, offer boons to the nearest colony if garrisoned with space station (sometimes upgrades are required). There are many upgrades too. The cantina (automatically applied once researched) essentially cancels out maintaince cost within 1 hex of a colony, and provides approval. Additional upgrades to a station don't seem to impact maintaince costs, so this is a hidden gem if you have a lot of deep space adjacent to your colonies; but the passive tech to slash station maintaince might be more viable if your stations are farflung. The listening post extends sensor reach. The subspace projector can be researched down several different paths to provide either a fleet speed bonus which spills into surronding hexes or else slow enemy fleet speeds. The station itself can be turned into a battlestation, which is great, but don't expect it to be taking on invasion fleets unsupported. Finally, the enlarged map sizes are fantastic - especially for Clusters. There is really no reason to play Star Drive 2 without Sector Zero. It is a big improvement.

So the base game, Star Drive 2, was always very stable for me. My greatest issue with this game is the bugs. Front game startup where i have to ctl-alt-del and open the pregram manager in order for the game to move past the loading screen the bugs begin. Graphics from the ship design screen stick so they show on the galaxy map. Ships who's designs are deleted tend not to show up in a battle, AI ships instantly conquer planets you are sieging and on and on. On top of all the new bugs the added gameplay is nice but minimal. In short, i would skip this DLC until the bugs are cleaned out, the base game is much more enjoyable.

Well, I had played the base game since Early Access. Star Drive 2 is really fun but it seemed a little stale as it was some what easy and not much happening. I cold expand and crush opponents but there were not many other things going on. Along comes Sector Zero DLC .... and WOW! Lots of events greatly expand the game. The AI is a little harder now. The DLC has many subtle improvements. ANd it adds multiple victory conditions. The developer is very active and hard at work to improve this game even more. I was very surprised at the improvements in the DLC. AI empires now contact me more often for trade deals. Added is the capability to have 'free' small ships that do not count against the command point limit. These ships add to the 'fleet in being' strength and need to be built avan if seldom used (small ships can die fast against late tech fleets). All the AI empires build them so you need to as well to have a good force rating. In the old game I stopped building small ships as almost from the beginning. There are new technologies as well. Overall the DLC is a must have for anyone who wants to play this great game. I lovev space 4X games and Star Drive 2 is very good. The dev is very active and this is good.

This adds a good ammount to the base stardrive 2 which was fun but had its issues. The first is the galaxy is now split into sectors tho ships can still free travel it allows everything to fit more nice as well as better optimization map wise. It has an interesting mechanic where nearby sectors to yours will slowly come under your infulence but that influence can be taken away but competeing empires. The ony way to really 100 percent stop the enemy from influcencing that sector is to take it by force, Combating for sector infulence adds great gameplay and is a great addition. Deep outposts also make an appearence in this which can serve several purposes also adds some unique gameplay as these cans slow down invasions tho you will need a fleet backing them up to fully hault large invasion forces. Several new techs and new victory conditions come into play which the base game really needed yet there is no diplomatic vicotry yet which is sad they do spice up the core content and allow you to approach the game in more varried way. For example the score victory will appoint who ever has the highest score by 1000 turns the winner tho you can keep playing after. The last feature is bigger maps i hated how in the orginal stardrive2 base game maps were limited to 100 stars it felt cramped and small zero has added two things. First the galaxy sizes have changed to allow up to max 200 stars and even higher through edditing the config file. This in my opinon is an amazing eddtion i have already had a galaxy on 500 stars tho not every computer will handle this alright it gives the players much more options. To end this for players who dont buy the dlc Zero has also patched the base game to improve asspects startdive 2 is not perfect tho i feel like zero has improved with keeping up with his community. To me for the content and price this is a solid buy that really does add uniuqe things to the base game and in my opnion is needed for its long term appeal.

Great DLC in my opinion. Adds a ton of new content and for the price it's certainly worth it. However my main issue with it is I'm used to and love long 4x games. Finishing them just leaves me with an air of emptiness. I don't really feel like I've achieved anything by BEATING such games. Which is why I'm not a personal fan of the new victory conditions. Especially seeing as they're not an option you can disable. Watching ones empire grow and then just toying with the smaller ones and suddenly getting your ass kicked for being so arrogant. I love that. All in all though it is a good DLC and I do recommend it. For personal reasons though I'd like an option in the campaign start to disable all victory conditions except extermination. Edit: Nevermind. The great one has answered my prayers. All hail Zero. Ehem... that aside. I've no longer any issues with this... at all.
