I'll only say that my significant other likes it just like the IV part!
Graphics are very neat, small gameplay additions here and there (new way of earning skills via gems currency + slot machine). Worth buying.
Note: doesn't seem to have full steam features yet, but with this dev - they usually come later.
The game is about 7 hours long. When you finish it - you play again and do some achievements. So bear in mind that is quite short.

While this took me a while and a few passes through to get the hang of it, the game turns out to be ok. It does have an ending, but you can continue to replay the last difficult level to gain higher achievements, or start again to improve overall score. One thing I miss from other match 3 games: There is no "Hint" key. There are bonuses that you earn with play (not by purchase!) but no hint key. Even one with a penalty would be nice.

Treasures of motezuma 3 was good, Montezuma 4 was great.... Montezuma 5...so disappointing. I'm glad I bought it when it was on sale. You can play through the entire set of stages in around 5-6 hours and you're done. There are some side game stages that are a challenge, but really if you haven't played the motezuma series, just go for Montezuma 4, it's the best one.

Can a sequel be so bad it nearly ruins the whole franchise? It barely can.
As a huge fan of the Montezuma Puzzle series, I have never felt more offended by a developer than with Treasures of Montezuma 5. I'm really shocked that this could pass beta testing. Let me tell you why.
The core mechanic of the game (the one that separated the noobs from the pros) in the previous game was the "score frenzy". A mode that doubled, trippled ore x-dupled your points the more combinations you made in the least possible time.
That mechanic still exists but it has been rendered completely useless because to beat a level, you don't need points, you just need to farm specific gems.
Having bought the final upgrade for a totem made it should twice if you got 3 matches of the same color in a row. Not existing anymore
The slot machine always uses the exact same pattern. So why even bother me with something that looks like a randomized feature?
70 levels on a quite simply drawn map and that's it. Nothing more. In Treasures of Montezuma 4, the main game was only about 40% of the whole game.
ToM4 had a really touching story. This game: no story at all ... like how could you not make the villain return and just fix the glitches from the previous game? It would have been very easy to just focus on that leaving the Ziggurat Growth thing out because it never made sense?
Then, after having bought all the upgrades in a shop, you're awarded with jewels to buy ... wait... what do I need gems for when I already have ALL of the upgrades?
The only positive thing to mention is that the graphics have been upgraded a bit but is it worth the price? not at all.
This game is an insult and it should be flagged as early access Alpha release.

My favorite Montezuma game. It fixes much of the gameplay & pacing issues I met with previous episodes. A strong recommendation, one of the best match-3 games around. (I'm not sure why they still bother trying to sell us a story, though... There is absolutely nothing that's told here. Just like in most of the series. Not that it matters much, but a good story is always a plus, even in a casual game.)

Everything about this game is a clear downgrade from 4. The art is much more bland and the tokens don't pop out at you like they did, orange and yellow are a little too close to the same color for a match 3 game, the music and sound effects just aren't as good, the tone of the whole game feels way more generic and bland, the level goals and mechanics are worse. It's extremely clear that whoever made 5 did it for a cash grab and didn't put any of the love and effort into it that were put into 4 to make it a great game. I can't recommend this to anybody, maybe if it were a free mobile game but even then there would be better alternatives.

This game is very similar to the 4th episode of Treasure of Montezuma (i.e. match 3 - by moving tiles), playing wise. Yet, there's no story, and outside the "quest", there isn't much to see.
It is well done and entertaining enough to keep you hooked a bit. Although, this edpisode suffers from the same problem as the previous episodes : it doesn't like when you play too fast and the game doesn't detect all the totem triggers (matching the same color twice in a row).
There are 70 "stages" to play through, overall, plus 3 without number (some bonus stage to collect "marbles", "tablets" and I don't remember the third one).
There are achievements in there, albeit not "steam" ones. That's where the playing time will be spent - replaying the same stages over and over to reach one or another achievement.
I'm running this on Win7 without problem, save the bonus levels: "Marbles" and "tablets" simply hang the game at some point, going back to Windows. No error message, no warning, no nothing. Just the loss of any progress since the last time you were in the "menu" of the game. I wasn't able to detect a logical reason save, maybe, when those stages are played too long - it is set up for 1:00 minute, however, with the totems and bonuses, it can last way longer. Not sure this is the reason, though.

If it wouldn't be mentioned that Alawar is the developer of this game, I would tell that this one game is the Chinese copy of The Treasures of Montezuma 3, so bad everything is. Even the 4th game is better than this one.
-I am very surprised how bad everything looks in the menu, what's worse - gems color palette looks KINDA the same but at the same time it is very toxic, and color changed that way that it became hard to differ for example yellow from orange, etc. It's hard to explain unless you try yourself. On top of that, gems field now takes most part of the screen and gems became huge, while there is no any way to change the in-game resolution. You can make it windowed but you can't resize the window.
-Lacks some useful features from the previous games
-Includes slot-machine so you can get some in-game currency - this thing alone makes me think that this game was oriented to the mobile phones market and end up here without microtransactions.
-No in-game story as is
-No cards
-No steam achievements
Just a bad executed copycat

I'm a big fan of Montezuma serie and I'm really disappointed by this TM5.
Some problems are:
The game is quite short (6 hours for all stages), you cannot shuffle the board, the White Totem is available only at the end, there is no double activation of any totem, there are some random crash.
If you compare to TM3 (real challenge) or TM4 (big content), you will be really disappointed.
I don't recommend it, I would recommend TM4 or TM3 instead.
