This game just needed a DLC expanding the existing content with the existing formula and it would have sold wonderfully, it was chill and lovable in every way. Instead they added loads of tiresome and boresome mechanics that feel like a waste of time when all you wanted was to dive in the water and fish:
- Real Time Management, why change what you had when it worked so well? no clue, but it could not feel more clunky if it tried, to have a mix of Real Time that stops depending on what activity you do and teleports to Bancho when you were almost about to reach the NPC to finish the side quest is the most confusing and infuriating thing.
- Loads of minigames that you use once, I honestly feel bad for the dev that had to do something like this, and see his work become a one-timer.
- Bug collecting, erm no, I'm not gonna spend my time pursuing butterflies with a bugcatcher, because it's the super rare butterfly that only appears on a fullmoon in a snowy summer, if I wanted that I would play Stardew valley, not sure who thought it fit in this game, to me it doesn't. And the bettle battles felt way too luck based.
- Forest Turn Based Combat, are we serious here? if I wanted something like this I would download any of the many great RPG Maker games, there are many with incredible stories, in this game if feels useless to a point is not even funny, to level up the character for that area that is not gonna be used for the main mechanic, which remember, is diving, at one point of the DLC it seems they kinda forgot that...

The DLC introduces a new "feature" real time management. While in camp, time actually flows which artificially limits what you can do each day.
I really have no idea why anyone thinks that this is a great idea in a game which already has a lot of "stressing" game mechanics (managing oxygen while diving, capturing enough fish, making enough money at the restaurant, reaching all the goals for timed quests and events). This is just too much..
At this point, I can go back to my IRL job for a similar experience
Edit: I really didn't expect so many responses. I wanted to clarify some things:
- I did play the DLC, though I didn't finish it. Steam doesn't track game time for DLCs so it always displays it as 0 hours.
- I did not return the DLC, nor do I plan to. I see that the devs put a lot of work and care in this DLC. I appreciate and want to support that. For me, the real time managament system completely annihilates the fun. If you're unfaced by the time management, there is a lot to enjoy in the DLC.
Edit 2: Disabled comments. I'm tired of people telling me that I'm playing wrong or that being stressed is my own problem..

It's crazy to show a jurassic ocean and not letting the player explore it for a single sec

This DLC really changes things up in a good way and seems to be very polished. My only complaint is the active time system. I don't really understand why it's there and it causes unnecessary stress.

I'm really enjoying the dlc so far. I'm loving the new lake and new characters so much! So far my only complaint is time passing by. It adds so much unnecessary stress! I don't really feel like I have had any chance to really take in the village and all of it's people because I'm given a full list of quests to do but limited amount of time to get it all done. It's an odd change compared to the base game.

All I wanted was more Dave the Diver. And I got everything BUT that.
Fishing and managing the restaurant get the back seat while, for some reason, the devs deliver:
1. A severely undercooked turn based game. Which is ironic, since you leave a sushi place behind to open Bancho GRILL, in the jungle.
2. A shallow Stardew Valley-like relationship system. Just give basic junk to the NPCs everyday and it does the work. Their likes are too specific and you need to randomly get them in the shop.
3. A rock-paper-scissors style beetle battle that is totally random and dragged out. The beetles basically have 2 tiers, and you HAVE to BUY a better one if you want to defeat and capture any high level one, or get insanely lucky in the battles.
4. Basic fishing. With a rod. Just… why?
5. Literally Duck Hunt.
6. And finally: So. Many. MINI GAMES. They worked on the base game, being spaced out. In the DLC they’re so constant it gets annoying fast.
That’s most of the DLC. But also, CROSSOVERS. Your whole restaurant crew is crossovers. And most of them are jammed into the story. The poor villagers don’t even get their spotlight.
If you really enjoyed DAVE THE DIVER, I strongly suggest you ignore the main quests for 1-2 in-game days before progressing. So your fishing and restaurant can keep up with everything. If you focus on the pace the game sets, you’re basically playing mini game after mini game, while doing some of the activities I’ve listed above.
And even diving has its problems, like many people said. The new filtration system only matters for like 1 day at a time. You can upgrade it instantly. While cleaning the lake just after. So it’s more of an annoyance than a mechanic.
In the end, they turned a great game about diving into an amalgamation of surface level mini-games.

The English AI translations are extremely noticeable, in both the cold manner of speech and the many grammatical errors. The way characters speak tends to be choppy, lacking in punctuation, will use singular forms instead of plural forms, etc. Please hire **real** translators with your next project! AI cannot adequately replace humans.

A very well polished DLC, a lot of new stuff added, it's great.
However, the active time system really is unnecessary, and just adds stress to the player, I don't see the reason why is this even there, it's just a distraction, I want to take my time, enjoy the game, walk around, talk to villagers, but that timer just feels like it's rushing me, it's not very pleasant, (While I got used to it, will still prefer it not being there.) other than that, the DLC is great.

The time passing in the jungle village does not affect your ability to dive twice before the restaurant opens.
Time does not pass in the water or in the jungle. It moves in segments just like the base game.
Don't be misled by people telling you the clock creates stress.
Remember, you have infinite days to accomplish anything and there is no penalty for playing slowly.
And the village design is an homage to Stardew Valley.
The expansion is a perfect addition to the base game. It adds over 25 hours of gameplay.
More of the same fun and a lot of new aspects.
The whole expansion is full of homages to other popular games. Some play better than others.
Some of the side quests may not be to your liking, but you can ignore them after introduced to the gameplay.
The side quest are worth doing even if they are a lot of randomness compared to the normal gameplay.

I recommending the dlc because it is polished, but i have to point out that the pacing of the game is very wierd compared to the base game.
The active time system felt like an unnecessary addition to increase urgency, because you CAN complete most things in the village and go for a dive if you do not take your sweet time, but that ticking clock distracts me from having a chill time. Its.. not very enjoyable.
