The "ending" to this game is severely disappointing. I only pray the devs are planning to massively expand on the story, as this does not cut it for the amount of setup the game has up until this point. So many mysteries and loose ends that just feel completely ignored. The first half of the game is great, but I cannot recommend it after playing to completion.

I have a crippling addiction to this game. This is the kind of game that you can't wait to start playing again. Do not believe any lies, you will have fun with the science team, you will engage in interdimensional whimsy, you will love it and keep coming back for more.

Agree with the other negative reviews. Boring second half that is completely uninspired and grindy. Walking around everywhere 30 times is not enjoyable gameplay, that is a chore. Putting in vehicles in a map that was inherently not designed for them is a bandaid fix at worst, if driving wasn't also completely terrible. Enemies are just reskins of each other with inflated hp pools. Bleeding me every second hit is not a fun mechanic either. Combat feels absolutely atrocious. Sharp melee is your only option and the laser katana is so much better than any other option that you would be stupid to use anything else. Making blunt as useless as it is is questionable and feels like an oversight, somehow. Gunplay, if you can call it that, is very unsatisfying. Unless you have very high gun skills they feel really atrocious. I am sure this could've been balanced better than making your character have Parkinson for the first 10 hours. Most guns also do comically low damage by the last third of the game, while ammo becomes less scarce its still annoying and unfun. The amount of buggy interactions and lack of polish is astonishing for a 1.0. I feel like it was not this bad when I played it on it's early access release. Maybe if this was still early access I would overlook that, but for the asking price now you must be joking. What starts off as Half-Life turns into SCP and then Warhammer. I see what you were trying to do but it doesn't blend very well and just ends up being kind of all over the place without much stylistic cohesion. The character creator with the perks is completely uninteresting and adds no depth. Leveling up takes genuinely dozens of hours with the only "good" abilities being locked behind shaking vending machines and running around with a full inventory. There is also 0 incentive to use your head anywhere. For a game based on science there is a complete absence of interesting puzzles. Just go to X place with X item. Thank you, that is really engaging! The gear progression in the second half also becomes completely nonexistent. While early on you have a handful of sets per "tier" this quickly fades away and you are stuck with one armor that you are supposed to wear. TL:DR Very strong start with an insane drop-off in quality. Several different themes with complementary weak execution in all of them. Walking and grinding simulator with annoying and flat, boring combat and skills. Nonexistent puzzles with map design that makes you roll your eyes after having to walk through it the 24th time. If you must play this, you better tweak the settings as much as possible if you don't want to die of old age first. Also do yourself a favor and don't buy it at full price, its not worth it.

If you're a fan of survival games and huge research facilities, this game has a big chance to click for you. You probably wont like it if you hate exploring. My best advice when playing this game would be collect EVERYTHING that isn't nailed down, chances are you will need it in one way or another, and try to craft everything this game offers you. It won't be all items, but most of them have one use case or more. Also bring a lot of different weapons with you when you can, it will come in handy. I sometimes read player feedback and see players using weak or outright wrong items to deal with the challenge in question. Otherwise, have fun, the game is pretty big and is definitely worth the price. Onward - to science <3 I played this game in both singleplayer and multiplayer (pls help me), and both experiences are pretty fun. I'm not sure about public servers though, it may be full of griefers as far as I'm aware.
Now, about the things that in my opinion could be improved in the game. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD, PLEASE IGNORE IF YOU HAVE YET TO BEAT THE GAME. One thing this game could use is a popup telling players about enemy weaknesses and where to find them. I know that we have entries in gatepal, but most people will not pay attention to it and try to beat up order soldiers with a blunt weapon, and then complain that they're too strong (I personally saw an example of that behavior xd) Bring back the crafting bench recipe for FL scrapshot and FL security pistol. You can leave them in upgrade bench too, but really its not rocket science to put a duct tape and a flashlight on a weapon. Field batteries are, uh, still not good. They were made easier to craft but all the equipment with large battery storage cant be reliably recharged with them due to them giving 50 charge. If I want to recharge my spear with 100 charge, I'll find a charging station or use crystalline vial. Make them recharge equipment percentage wise >~< (25%? Maybe 50%?). Laser field batteries would also be good. Please undo carbon battery recipe change. I know all materials are renewable but I am not happy about crafting 4 batteries of lower tier just to make 1 super battery. It drains resources a lot for just one of those. I would be just fine with 2 old recipe carbon batteries used. CRAFTABLE ALIEN TACOS? I don't really mind the ending, it was ok for me, imo players were too ready with the signs that IS-012 is not what it seems to be, but it would be nice if it would act against our will if we would be idle for too long, or idk read that one Manse message in Residences. (that would also emphasize the point that we are nothing in this universe. And you know lean more into the fact that sun disc is contagious). What I do mind though is the boss fight. You shouldn't need a guy who gives you free heals in order to beat the boss. Also are you really telling me that you bring a huge arena with a boss, a lot of movement pads but little to no reason to use them? I stayed in one spot most of the time occasionally ducking under a rock to take cover, and used ranged weaponry to defeat the boss. I think someone should report to Dr. Garrick that Albatross facility, a nexus for perforations is majorly under equipped for dealing with entities that might go through open perforations. Saying all that I still want to give you props on how well balanced the game is when you know all its available tools. Thanks Deep Field for making a game I truly love.
An incredible survival game experience to go through. This game is absolutely oozing with love and passion from those who've created it. It's rare for a game to have such a vice grip on me, consistently making me interested on what's next to come. Incredible world atmosphere and level design that I don't see in many titles. On top of that it has rewarding exploration revealing how much the map connects with itself. The overarching story of escaping a research facility may be a simple premise, but it's the smaller stories that the game drops that gives the narrative it's depth. Finding emails on computers throughout the facility makes the world felt lived in. Co-worker banter, corporate dismissal on a crucial matter, back-and-forth on research topics, it all tells you the kind of people that worked here. The item design is what truly sells me on character progression. The curiosity of "what cool shit can i make with this?" is a key player on me wanting to play more of this game, then having those expectations met or even subverted on what it turns into. Combats okay. Many don't like the "grind" of gathering resources of survival games, the stellar level design alleviates that by rewarding you with a "knowledge check". What material gets dropped in which area is all dependant if you remember. I fully understand if this section of the review isn't the strongest but as a "resource rat" myself, it's a step above many. Abiotic factor takes a LOT of inspiration from many medias (SCP, Half-life, Halo, etc), but it stands on it's own as a celebration from what inspired it. It most definitely has it's flaws, for some or even many it'll outweigh the good, but i strongly urge you if you're a fan of the survival genre give this one a good try, as you'll come to find something magical underneath the retro graphics. Four big-booms.

DeepField took OG Half-Life, and shoved an entire survival game into it. The facility is enormous, and you can base basically anywhere with a power socket. If you're playing multiplayer, each member of the team can pick a role to focus on, meaning that everyone can find their own enjoyable niche - solo is still great, but it can be tedious having to do everything yourself. Onwards to Science!

I never leave reviews, but this game was so good it made me write one. Despite being a nightmare for really getting into games after playing WoW for 20+ years I find it really hard to break into other games and always find myself going back to some variation of WoW, or playing the old Fallout games. Took a chance with this and I am glad I did. One of the best games I have ever played, so much so, I recently purchased 2 of their 'Gate' logo mugs from their merch website because I really love the game and wanted something extra to display on my Computer desk. If anyone is reading this and has doubts on buying it, this is a sign to take a chance on it like I did, and you wont be disappointed.

Disclaimer : Played through the game solo only and reached the end in 60h. I don't think i've ever seen a game that blend genres that well. As so many pointed out, it's Half Life 1 aesthetics meets Subnautica survival mechanics and the SCP universe. It's immersive, highly customisable and highly addictive. Just one more supply run, one more base to build, one more minute (hour ?) exploring this giant interconnected facility you find yourself stranded in. I'd recommend going blind, as the horror of the unknown and wonder of discovery is what hooked me in right from the start, then kept me locked in for those wonderfull 60h. To me, Abiotic Factor is to survivals what Baldur's gate 3 is to CRPG, or Elden Ring to souls-like : It's the new gold standard against which any future survival will be compared to from now on. It is THAT good. I can't recommend this game enough.
