I love it!
... nostalgia may be doing most of the heavy lifting here.

A tower-defense made in Flash that was slightly touched up. Pretty old. In here you fight the water physics enemy that keeps multiplying, including elevation play. Very good for the time. Pretty well distills down the attrition wars appeal of RTS where you have to establish yourself, all using infinite resources against infinite enemy.
Game design however is unrefined by modern standards. Very good for authors first try at experimental genre, of course. But I would say the final "clean up" stage after establishing your defense and economy successfully is a drag that takes too long time. Having to leapfrog connecters and turrets by small steps... Ughhhhh

I had never heard of Creeper World until I played the demo of Calyx, an upcoming game which people say is heavily inspired by Creeper World. Eager for more I delved into the back catalogue and played this.
Despite its basic graphics and controls this holds up very well. You are fighting off the neverending spread of the Creeper using turrets, and you must carve out real estate for resource gathering nodes, the energy from these powers everything from construction to turret ammo. So the game has quite a bit of strategy as you must juggle defence, expanding for resources and making timely pushes into enemy territory.
The main downside is that the first part of each level (in the campaign at least) is the most engaging, where you are trying to build up and stabilise your defences against the Creeper. After you've stabilised, although it can be tough, unless you mess up with your resource allocation you'll be able to slowly push the Creeper back until you win. So once you reach this point you've effectively won, although sometimes its still tricky breaking out from the stalemate. On the plus side pushing the creeper back to win even at this point is really satisfying, and high scores reward faster times, so I found that was a nice wee incentive to push forwards rather than sit back.
The campaign is just the right length at around 5-10 hours depending on how fast you can clear levels. They drip feed new buildings and units throughout so there's always something new to consider. There aren't many units/buildings but they all have their uses and you need to think about the right tool for the job.
The campaign level design is really good; in some levels you might have to claw your way out of a desperate situation at the start, or rush forward to capture points before the creeper overwhelms them. Some levels have almost no space to work with, making you think about how best to use the space available. Others give you time to build up your defences in anticipation of the break point where the creeper will converge on you. Each is a fun and varied challenge, along with a fun little storyline bookending each mission.
Be aware that there are some controls or functions that are only mentioned once and easily forgotten, like I didn't realise I could click on turrets and then move them for half the game! Be sure to delve into the advanced tactics menu in 'How to Play' in the game for useful info.
Overall this holds up as a good strategy title that has aged well, and I might dip into the other Creeper World games now. For only a few quid this is a real bargain for strategy/tower defence lovers.

A game, most similar to a tower defense game, but has a very different feel as you are basically fighting a fluid (the creep). This acts as real fluid and flows down hills, fills up valleys and slowly spreads out in large open areas and comes from a source. You have a base and you build power nodes (collectors) which increases your incoming power. This power travels along your node network to your weapons and constructing nodes to supply them, which takes time. There are only a few weapons, a laser, for quick local attacks, a mortar, for longer range area attacks, a drone, for deep sustained area attacks and a missile battery for defense against rocks coming from the air (which many missions don’t have). There are also a few buildings which increase your power, increase the speed your power travels, and storage (battery) that allows you to have more stored-up power. The goal is just to push the creep back far enough to reach the 3 or so locations that allow you to teleport away. A simple premise really, but very unique, and gets your brain working in a different way.
The positives are just the uniqueness and a kind of relaxing, slow march forward (usually) and figuring out where to focus your efforts. There is also, surprisingly, a lot of content, with a story campaign (like maybe 20 levels), a conquest mode (25 levels) and a more challenging special ops mode (10 levels). Most missions only take 15-20 minutes though, which is another positive, making it a good lunch break type of game. Just be prepared for those rare tough ones where it is a slog to move forward.
The negatives are just the kind of older, less polished interface and look, especially when compared to the sequels. Like there is no options menu to change volumes, keybinding, etc. This was kind of a big deal to me, as this game would have been ideal for playing some videos in the background, but with the sound being so loud, that just wasn’t an option (but you can shut it off completely if you want). I guess there isn’t really a lot of variety either, which some may view as a negative, but that straightforwardness can also be a strength depending on what you are looking for. Not saying the levels are repetitive really, as there are many cool ones, just that you know what to expect pretty quickly and your tools are pretty limited.
End result is, a recommend for those looking for a relaxing, but still mentally stimulating game that can easily be played in small doses. There have now been 4 of these games, but I have only played 2 of them (3 and 1). Even after playing #3, I still found this game fun and worthwhile to play even though it is simpler and I enjoyed the newer one more. I would expect the other newer ones are probably, also better games though, and this entry is mainly for those who really enjoy the formula or who just want to experience the full series.

One of the golden oldies.
Only issue I've got: can't play in fullscreen, it always auto-resizes back into 4:3 windowed. Might be proton's fault, though.

Unique blend of game styles makes this an addictive experience. Creeper World 3 was my first experience with the series, so I came back to play the game that started everything.

I recently discovered this gem of a tower defence game from a YouTube channel and oh boy I'm glad that I did.
The mechanics are simple but very addictive. Basically you are fighting an enemy know as the creep (a huge liquid mass blob) and have to place structures all around the map to fight it and escape to the next level.
There is a light story mode and predefined levels as well as random levels to play at your hearts content.
I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this one, and for the fair price, it's a no-brainer. Highly recommended!
