Some levels are too easy and others you will die dozens of times, balance is all over the place. The game is not impossible is just try and error and is short which I was expecting. Not a bad game in any way and something that I completed in 90 min approx and I'm really bad this kind of platforms.
In general for the prize I would wait until is on sales and make the prize more fit for the length of the game but in any case if you are interested I recommend it.

I can't say I hated it or loved it, it's a 5/10 platformer. If you're into the retro platformer style of game, then give this a look, but only after most of the more well known titles.

I usually don't pay much attention to soundtracks. 8-bit type game soundtracks always run generic and annoying at times but THIS! This should get awards for these slaps! The game was just the right level of difficult. You unlock a character that uses diff mechanics for every level set so you technically are getting 2 games in 1. If for no other reason, get this for the ST.

I'm still making my way through this game, but so far I am enjoying it. It's a decently challenging platformer with great visuals and music. I wouldn't pay full price for it, but if you ever find it on sale, grab it.
I'm making a playthrough on YouTube if you would like to see the game in action:

I was Steam user for many years but it's my first review. And I just want to say that it's game is brilliant. Beautiful old-school graphics, enjoyable gameplay, good and clever humour. Absolutely recommended.

This is a game I completed to 100% (though I didn't get the 100% achievement owing to a bug, thanks devs) as well as being one that fits it's decription to a tee; It is without question a game that is a platformer, that replicates different eras in games, as well as providing screen filters and suitable soundtrack.
So why I am not recommending it? Because it is dull as FUCK to play! Astonishingly so! Uninspired level designs coupled with the fact that yes, each area 'looks' like a different -bit era of gaming... but it doesn't FEEL any different! The physics don't change, nor the movements, nor anything. So it's skin template only. Oh, the soundtrack? So downright dreary and it doesn't change all that much either?
It's not the worst game I've ever played on here but it's definitely up there with the most boring. There are much, much better options out there and dozens upon dozens of games of this type that are just better than this.

When I bought this game, it wasn't working properly, but then messaged the developers and they fiixed the problem. That sort of service alone is worth the support.
UPDATE: Just finished the game. I got all achievements except the 100% achievement. I found that the second unlockable character, G-byte, was too difficult to maneuver. Even if that was intentional, it's really not my cup of tea. That being said, the rest of the game is excellent. The interlude animations are cute, and the final boss battle THANKFULLY avoids my least favorite cliche of boss battles (that is, you hit the boss once, then it comes back more difficult, then you hit it again, then it comes back more difficult. It DOESN'T do that, and I'm grateful for that.) The game is clean cut, and while some parts are difficult, I never felt it was punishing. I love how the game plays with aesthetics, fashioning the game after different platform styles. At 3 dollars, this game is certainly worth buying. On sale, it's definitely worth it. If you like platformers, give it a try.

Great little game! Not an easy one, but has good mechanics and is well-made. A solid platformer and great if you're looking for a challenge.

While not without some flaws, KByte has several of the elements that make a game that is pretty much its cousin, Life of Pixel, a good addition to any platformer fan's collection. You get sets of stages that more or less simulate different eras of gaming, and they present enough mechanical variety to keep challenges fresh.
After finishing the levels with KByte, you get to try them again with GByte, which controls in a VVVVVV-ish manner by alternating gravity. I find it particularly commendable that the level designs work pretty well in this alternate mode, presenting their own challenges without really changing the layout.
The game controls pretty well, and most of the time they provide the tightness needed. There are problems here and there, though. Sometimes the characters may get slightly stuck, which maybe is part of a broader theme, which is that collision can feel strange at times. It feels like it's neither per-pixel nor per-object, floating on some middle ground which can be hard to judge.
Still, it's fun an worthy of being played.

THIS GAME DESERVES SOME LOVE! IT'S GREAT!
I was taken away a little bit by the price of the game, but the video trailer sold it to me.
And so i did...
and man it is AWESOME!
It reminds me of the platformers of good old times with pretty nice retro graphics from different eras.
The levels are short but gradually challenging and you can see the love from the developers each step.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for this cheap!
