Super cute and pretty, easy to make unintrusive, great settings options, the sounds are intermittent so feel natural and not overdone, and the pixel graphics for birds, decorations, borders, backgrounds, etc are beautifully done and so charming. This has great potential but I very much enjoy it already in the state its in.
I love collecting the birds and taking photographs of their various activities. When I felt a little like I wanted the screen to stop showing feathers, etc, so I can just enjoy the charm of the game, I found an option to tone drop opacity down (and it can go to zero), which was very pleasing! Its developer has thought of everything.
For me it's those little touches that just make a game.

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I launched Birdwatching Notebook, but within a few minutes I realised this was exactly the sort of game I love discovering.
As someone who enjoys watching the birds that visit my own garden every day, this felt incredibly relaxing and surprisingly personal. You start with a blank space and gradually turn it into a beautiful little sanctuary by adding plants, furniture and decorations, with new birds arriving as your environment grows. It's the kind of game that doesn't demand your constant attention, instead happily sitting in the corner of your desktop while you get on with your day before checking back to see who's come to visit.
The combination of cosy, idle and incremental gameplay works brilliantly. There are no stressful timers, no pressure and no rush. It's simply a peaceful little companion that's a pleasure to have running in the background, and I found myself smiling every time another bird appeared.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to expand the bird collection with optional regional packs. I'd absolutely love to see birds from the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and other parts of the world added in the future. The existing birds are lovely, but seeing species that regularly visit my own garden would make an already wonderful experience feel even more special. I'd also happily play a full-screen version if one was ever created.
Honestly though, those are suggestions rather than criticisms. I genuinely struggled to find anything negative to say about Birdwatching Notebook because it delivers exactly what it promises, and it does so beautifully.
If you enjoy cosy games, idle games, incremental games or simply want a peaceful little companion while you work or browse your computer, I'd wholeheartedly recommend giving this one a try. It quickly became one of those games that I didn't want to close, and that's probably the biggest compliment I can give it.
