It's the classic Stronghold: Crusader HD — but better in every way.
A lot of old bugs have been fixed. Here are a few improvements I noticed just a few hours in:
Maps can now be 800 x 800, which is 4x larger than the original 400 x 400.
Civilians no longer block building placement — only troops can.
Troop recruitment is much faster: you can now spawn 5 or the max amount by holding Shift or Ctrl, instead of clicking one at a time.
The edge of the map can’t be used as a wall anymore. There’s now a one-tile “no-build” border around the entire map, meaning you need to fully enclose your base with proper walls.
I really hope they add Steam Workshop support for mods and skins, or continue developing new features for the game!

Just keep in mind that especially in its skirmish game play mode it is repetitive.

Old but gold, one of the best real time strategy game that I have ever played in my entire life! Many modern games of the same genre doesn't even come close....

Stronghold: Crusader is a nostalgic gem with satisfying castle-building and strategy, but it's definitely rough around the edges. The AI lords are often hilariously bad—sometimes locking themselves inside their castles or failing miserably against basic defenses like a single tower of crossbowmen. Even allied lords struggle to finish off nearly defeated enemies. Whether these are bugs or just limitations of the time, they’re part of the charm. Despite its flaws, I keep coming back to this game. It’s not perfect, but it’s special.

Great strategy game. It's an old game, but with great logic and gameplay. So happy to see that Firefly Studios did not give up on their game. W game W studio and soon will get the definitive edition.

I've been playing Age of Empires IV lately, a game from 202X and yet I still find myself thinking about this one. It did so many things right that newer RTS games still miss... Lots of childhood memories.
Also announcer voice and the enemy quotes are just excellent.
Peak RTS game, in my opinion.
