The game consists of 4 chapters and, for me, the chapter 1 was the best one, becouse you are interacting with many characters and you are choosing on which side you want to be between the two opposing factions based on your own understanding which option is the best for you. Unfortunately, your choice is almost totally irrelevant from chapter 2 onwards becouse the game is going in one direction like acquiring certain items in similar dungeons and fighting groups of same enemies. Also, some options in the game are almost useless in my opinion like blacksmithing where finding ore and forging weapons are almost useless becouse throughout the game you can find weapons that are that strong or even stronger than forged ones. Goldsmithing is also somewhat useless thing becouse i didn't need it at all till the end of the game even though i played both sides, as a bandit and a member of the Order. And the ending could be better honestly. You beat the final boss and the main character leaves the place. Even though his story continues in Risen 2, the ending scene could have shown something more about the consequences of his actions throughout the game or what to expect next. Overall, the game has a good plot and main character development, but it lacks many things game-wise. Also, some achievements are unnecessary hard or simply unrealistic and almost impossible to get, like "King Midas" or "Big game hunter" achievement. I think these things should be corrected if someone has any means to do so. Lastly i hope that this game will someday get a decent remake, becouse it deserves it.

I played it when i was little more times than i can remember, replaying now after all these years it feels even greater, The story is amazing the game-play is very basic and a lil hard to master the camera is weird but with the story and world will make u forget about it, I would very much recommend it and play it only if u can put aside the combat

Not as good as Gothic 2 but it's a fine enough play if you like them. Still janky and awkward but nice adventure. 6.5/10 from me.

This is a true spiritual successor to the Gothic series and if you enjoyed 1 and 2 you will probably like this one as well. It doesn't reach the heights of either game and is generally less interesting, but it uses the same game design and structure and does it well enough. And the tropical setting is nice. It's been a while since I played it so I have a hard time writing anything more substantial than this about it, but it's simply just a decent game I don't have any strong feelings for.

A good start of a trilogy, even though it does change style and leans more into a pirate theme with the second and third. Play this, then the second, then stop. The third is clunky, it has bad story and the tutorials and dialogues makes me feel like a freshly spawned toddler.

The game that made me snap a keyboard in half. But that was in 07 or 08. Anyway. Yeah, so you start on a beach fighting this bird, and you have a piece of wood in your hand. Lets just say that if you have problems fighting in this game, its a rythm or a dance, learn the moves and you will never be hit by anything, but thats the melee part. Slow start at first but gets traction later on as you skill up and gear up. When it comes to the bow, it will feel like all but the last skill will do nothing and the last skillup will turn your bow into a machinegun, its actually borderline OP, for all the right reasons, you worked hard to get there anyway!. The magic though, its interesting, you have a lot of spells to choose from and no matter what route youre going with, having some scrolls or runes is always needed for various things. Some are used for puzzle solving or getting to or finding secrets hidden everywhere, like you get this snail spell you crawl through holes with, its just cozy, the whole game is. And speaking of hidden things, I love the way the level design is done in this game, its just one of those turn a corner and find something new kind of games, the island is small, but its PACKED with stuff and hidden things, towers, ruins, caves, you name it. Its like the first time i got to the city, like you are stuck there, cant get out, what do you do? well, there incredible amount of things to do even in that area alone, talk to npcs, do quests, hidden items, secrets stuff, stuff and stuff as far as the eye can see, which would be the guarded and closed off city walls. My enjoyment score for this one is 84% It has some issues (melee) but its such a cozy game, filled to the brim with stuff to do and find. Risen 2 and Risen 3 sucks though, they never could live up to this one. Probably their best game.

One of my favourite games of all time, but getting a bit old now! Devs, any chance of a remaster? This game is way too good to fade into obscurity.

My first playthrough took 35 hours. Over 20 of those were spent just on Chapter 1, exploring the island and figuring stuff out. Another 5 hours went into wiping out all the wildlife after I finally became a mage. And the last 10 hours - endless, boring, dragged-out dungeons in the final chapter. Honestly, the game is insanely stretched out. The only part that actually feels well-made is the first chapter, where your character is just a gopher for the local power players. After that, it's all just repetitive, bland dungeons. The most annoying thing is that most of the game's mechanics are useless. You can mine ore, but there's nothing worth crafting - iron, obsidian, gold, they all just rot in your inventory. You can forge swords, but every quest reward (and especially plot weapons) are better than anything you can craft. Jewelcrafting? Pointless too, since you’ll just wear whatever rings and amulets you get from story quests because of the tight equip limits. Hunting and collecting animal loot? Enjoy staring at a pile of meat and pelts that you'll never use or sell. Magic is nerfed by an unforgiving grind wall. You can find a skeleton summon rune super early (would be OP if usable), but you’re not even allowed to use it until chapter 3, by which point your crystal magic can already nuke anything in seconds, and your skeleton buddy dies to a sneeze. Crystal magic itself? It melts everything as soon as you put 7+ points into it, even if you went thief-blacksmith-jeweler before. Meanwhile, the big flashy "Hell" spell does like a third of enemy HP and eats all your mana. I got the "best" High Mage armor literally 20 minutes before the game handed me an even better story armor. So what you get is an awesome Chapter 1 in the spirit of classic Gothic, endless running and beast-clearing in Chapter 2, a short and forgettable story dungeon in Chapter 3, and a godawful Chapter 4 where you repeat the same boring dungeon five times with the same fat enemies and tedious traps. If you’re a hardcore Gothic fan, you have to try it. For everyone else - maybe, if you’re desperate. P.S. There’s not even a real ending. Kill the boss, roll credits. -_-
