The phrase "Governor, your town happiness is falling" (accompanied by a deluge of rain) will forever hold a place in my mind. And frankly, for all its faults, I really love this silly game. Many years ago, I played CivCity: Rome on a Windows XP (still have the disk somewhere in my desk!). If you can believe, it was sold at a Scholastic-book warehouse sale some time in 2012. There were a few problems with game stability (crashes, as one can expect from something made in 2006) which are regrettably still present on the PC port to STEAM, but I think the portability makes up for it a tad. I had no difficulties quite as extreme as the game not running, but I can’t speak for everyone’s experience. It’s certainly an acquired taste, what with the old crotchety graphics and voice lines. If you like Civ, there’s a safe bet this will last you, and will be enjoyable. The aesthetic of Rome and mechanics unique to this game distinguish it quite clearly (for better, or worse)! As is becoming a pattern for my reviews, it’s difficult to complain about something cheap (if memory serves, I got this on sale for about 4.99—even less than the original disc edition!). Regardless, I’d wait to buy it until there’s a discount, similar to the price I bought it for. Take with that what you will.
