This game has its shortcomings. For one it is not the next big thing after Gothic 3 and also the world and the character building is smaller than one would expect after having played the Gothic Trilogy.
But Arcania manages to be an immersive and fun Rpg game in the world of Gothic. I liked a lot the art direction and the intuitive environments. The story is also good and it will keep you hooked till the end.
Maybe not great, but a superfun game if you like the world of Gothic. Depsite some problems this game has a Gothic charm. Thunbs up!

puddles flicker and models look like they have rainbow popsicles dripped all over their face. the game can only run in windowed mode or else it thinks more then one screen is running and youll get an error on boot up. so you have to go to files and changed it to windowed there. thats not to mention the awful fps and bugs. what a shame, if this game worked right i wouldve enjoyed it very much.
imagine someone selling you a home and youre told to drive around and look for it, but theres no house. yet you bought it. thats what it feels like when i see thq nordic collecting money from this game, but refusing to fund a proper patch.

I went into this expecting it to be the worst Gothic game and was pleasantly surprised. The pacing is fast and the combat is very basic but is frankly more competent than many of Arcania's contemporaries.
With that said:
1) The story is boring, linear, and ends with an anti-climax.
2) The only skills are related to combat.
3) After a while you'll find yourself running past enemies because combat is the only mechanic in this game and it gets old after the 5th or 6th narrow-hallway infested dungeon.
It's definitely not a horrible game. It's mercifully short, and isn't frustrating to play, but it's also too mediocre to be worth the time of all but the most fervent Gothic fanatics.
