This is the first game I played in earnest, way back in the day. The game is dated, the mechanics and graphics are antiquated, however the music and vibe still hits hard. This is probably my favourite game of all time, and having this run on my computer with no glitches was a treat to revisit.

With minimal extra config, it runs very smooth on windows 11 1080p, and the UI is still readable.

A fantasic dungeon crawler/diablo-like.
Man, i just love the way you enter dungeons in this game, no loadingscreen, the outside just goes black as you enter a dwelling that gets revealed for you, all the little nooks and crannies you can go, for example kinda early on theres this regular house, it has a basement, with an elevator down even deeper.
The game hides all kinds of stuff to explore throughout.
I also like that the entire game is connected, you can go aaaaaaaaaaall the way back to the beginning of the game from the ending of the game should you choose to, with no loading screens.
I love it.
The loot is fun to just see explode out of any of your party members when they die.
KABLAM and theres a million things on the ground, its so satisfying when it happens.
I really love that you can choose any amount of partymembers (up to 8!) and they share the XP, so you can go on solo adventures if you want to, sometimes even to challenge yourself, like i did, Solo Nature mage, but man was it a grind, i did it, and it was fun, but man was it a slog since the nature spells barely do any damage.
I played this for the first time later in life so i have no nostalgic feelings for it, its just a damn good game.
The graphics have that early 2000s look to it, the time before normal maps and a thousand shaders, so you see those awesome particle effects and it just looks so perfect.
The loot is random from the moment you press new game pretty much, so if you try to reload an area to see if you can get anything new, it will not work, the most random loot is from vendors, but they have a reset timer, so if you are after specific items with specific stats, you need to wait, or wander inbetween vendors to see whats new, forgot exactly how long that time was if it was 5 min, 10 or 20, but it was a while.
My enjoyment score for this one is 99%
It just has minor things that doesnt push it to the max, like some spells feel a bit undertuned, but thats no biggie, itll add to "testing yourself" because youll probably do more than one playthrough.
One of if not the only game with 8 slots for your party, like thats a rare thing, i cant even think of any other game that lets you do that.
DONKEYS! (or are they mules? forgot now but doesnt matter) if you Solo play, 7 of these badboys can carry A LOT of loot for you.
Awesome game, i wish the 2nd game was as good, but they made some strange changes for it, even the 3rd game is better with its famous expansion.

I like games like these. I just wish that you could customize your character more. The open world theme is great.

Dungeon Siege is a classic action role-playing game that left a significant mark on the genre when it was released, and even years later, it holds up as a compelling and immersive experience for fans of hack-and-slash adventures. Developed by Gas Powered Games and published by Microsoft, the game invites players into a vast fantasy world teeming with monsters, mysteries, and treasures. Its seamless world design, robust combat system, and accessible yet deep character progression make it a memorable journey for both newcomers and seasoned RPG players.
The game’s most notable feature is its expansive, continuous world. Unlike many RPGs of its time, Dungeon Siege eschews loading screens between areas, offering a smooth, uninterrupted exploration experience across forests, villages, dungeons, and castles. This design choice enhances immersion, making the world feel alive and connected. Players are free to roam at their own pace, stumble upon side quests, and uncover hidden secrets without feeling railroaded. The environment itself is lush and detailed, with dynamic weather and day-night cycles that add atmosphere to your adventure.
Combat in Dungeon Siege is fast-paced and satisfying, combining real-time action with strategic depth. Players can control a party of up to six characters, each customizable with different skills and equipment. The game encourages a tactical approach—balancing melee fighters, ranged attackers, and spellcasters to tackle various enemy types effectively. The fluid combat mechanics allow for combos, special abilities, and spellcasting that keep encounters engaging and varied. Additionally, the AI companions are competent and can be directed to follow specific tactics, which adds another layer of strategy during battles.
Character progression is straightforward but rewarding. Players earn experience points through combat and quests, allowing them to level up and allocate points to various attributes and skills. This system lets you tailor your party to your preferred playstyle, whether focusing on brute strength, magical prowess, or balanced versatility. Equipment plays a significant role, with a wide range of weapons, armor, and magical items that can be found, crafted, or purchased. The loot system is satisfying, often rewarding exploration and combat with meaningful upgrades that enhance your party’s effectiveness.
The narrative in Dungeon Siege is relatively simple but effective in driving the player forward. It follows a classic fantasy storyline of an emerging evil threatening the kingdom of Ehb and your party’s quest to thwart it. While the story doesn’t break new ground in terms of originality or complexity, it is well-paced and supported by solid voice acting and dialogue. Side quests and optional content enrich the world and provide context and character development beyond the main storyline.
Visually, the game was impressive for its time and remains charming thanks to its vibrant art style. The environments are richly textured and diverse, ranging from peaceful rural areas to ominous dungeons filled with grotesque creatures. Character and enemy designs are varied and detailed, contributing to the game’s immersive fantasy setting. The soundtrack and sound effects further enhance the atmosphere, blending sweeping orchestral themes with ambient sounds that bring the world to life.
Despite its many strengths, Dungeon Siege does have some shortcomings. The AI, while generally competent, can occasionally act unpredictably, especially in chaotic combat situations. The inventory and party management, though functional, might feel a bit clunky compared to modern RPG standards. Also, the absence of a more intricate storyline or deeper role-playing elements might disappoint players seeking a narrative-driven experience. However, these issues are relatively minor and do not detract significantly from the overall enjoyment.
In conclusion, Dungeon Siege is a robust and engaging action RPG that combines seamless world exploration, satisfying combat, and solid character progression into a cohesive and enjoyable package. Its approachable mechanics and expansive world make it accessible to a broad range of players, while its strategic depth and loot variety provide enough complexity to keep fans invested. For those looking to revisit a classic or dive into an action-packed fantasy adventure, Dungeon Siege remains a worthy and enjoyable journey through a richly crafted world of monsters and magic.

I must be honest, I enjoy it because of the nostalgia. If you are here for that, I recommend it very much.
If you are young, it is a good game, but there are better.

Great game, but Steam's port is garbage. Get it on GOG instead, works just fine.
