great fun game play and is best to play here and there. not all in one setting as its mostly the same ting over and over but vary old school in how it does that. but in a vary fun way i could say. love this game one of my top 20 games.

Very impressed by the way the devs handled a recent problem whereby on entering a room it froze and I couldn't load the level again. They replied to me quickly and worked on an update that solved the problem. Keep up the good work.

Well worth the sale price. Not really a Metroidvania, that's a bit misleading so don't let that tag scare you away. It's really a simple platformer with a very old school feel. Very simple game, navigate rooms full of traps and monsters to rescue the princess. Each time you rescue her, the castle gets bigger and you do it again. If you like games like Montezuma's Revenge or Spelunky this will be right up your alley.

Fine art and colorful setting, cute characters, etc, I like all in the game. But sadly, there are many deep holes you cannot climb out of. If you fall it's bye bye, cutting short the exploration if you didn't find a barrel with a save crystal before to not lose progress. Also in the higher levels, finding a barrel with a witch to buy keys is harder, and you can get stuck without keys. Based on my personal preferences, not for me. Maybe you enjoy it.

A shallow attempt to a metroidvania game. It gets really boring after the first two levels because of the grinding for coins and keys. Enemies (mini bosses included) are very easy to kill when you have a sword or an axe, and very difficult with the default knife because of the range. The biggest issue comes from the absolute madness with closed doors in your path. You can avoid most of them but it's such a chore to do it that, if getting coins to buy keys wasn't so difficult, you would rather go for the doors. And you will need many keys to rescue each princess. Pray that you have enough when you find them. Good attempt but this game should be free instead. Better get Rogue legacy.

Was expecting a gameplay and controls at least as polished as Rogue Legacy. I don't really care if the graphics are dull and childish, that is fine if the game itself is fun to play, but this game really doesn't feel like it's complete. The controls are very generic, the battles are all the same, your weapon stats is all that changes. The enemies are not hard. The only thing making the game 'hard' is it's damn bad physics.

Much better than the average retro-platformer out there, but a bit more expensive, as well. Is it worth it? Well, from the aspect of quality, it is. Full controller support (steam or not), fully configurable keys (with the exception of dashing, which is a bit annoying), triple-os support (windows, linux, mac), nice and smooth looks, with an appealing pseudo-3D perpective that is not obvious from the screenshots. The sound ain't bad, too. As for the gameplay, it's not one more of the 'same', which is the common rule of most platformers. On the contrary, it introduces a few nice and simple ideas: for example, I like the idea of knowing exactly where my character is (using an open-world-map), and I love the "now replay on a larger map, continuing with same character" concept. It gives small moments of satisfaction without the need to finish the game at once. I also like its "rogue-like, but not unforgiving" philosophy. Common ideas are there, too, like the a-bit-of-rpg style, expressed with randomly placed merchants, different weapons, armor, etc. But they are finely executed, in a way that also makes the game differ. Random generated maps guarantee quite a different experience every time, making it endure in time. Unless, of course, you get bored with the entire concept, which I find quite unlikely, since you chose to play a platform game in first place. It's fun, with jokes that may not make you roll on the floor loughing, but will at least make you smile. Parodies of known videogame stereotypes (save the princess, again) add to the humour. The bad? Well, it has its minor flaws. Couch co-op would be nice, for starters. Hit-jump controls may seem a bit odd at first, so you may have to change the keys (I swapped them). For some, not checking your reflexes on every given time, is a cons. I personally like it easy (so I avoid the bloody wizards at all costs). For instance, I like not instantly dying in places where I expected to, like fire, or pits, but some may find it unchallenging. Overall, it's a nice, enjoyable game. Whether you feel it's worth its full price or wait for a discount, it's up to you, but I suggest playing it nonetheless.

King Lucas meets its mark as an exploration adventure set in a large world, but it lacks the polish and finesse that would make it truly shine out among others. I did complete all ten levels of the single player mode, and I'll admit that the challenge of navigating through such a large world was fun. The game provides a limited number of tools that, when used efficiently, allowed me to finish the game in about 8 hours of playtime. I like the novel twist on level design, with an evolving castle on a scale that reminded me of the maze from the World's Largest Dungeon pen and paper RPG. The dialogue presents the first challenge to seamless gameplay, with errors in grammar and syntax that appear to be more than just oversights in translation. The attempts at humor by the NPCs are cringeworthy, and not in a good way; cultural references are thrown in at odd places, and most of the jokes feel forced. Few of the NPCs have any relevance to the game itself, which at first leads to a lot of wasted time. Although the game provides a loose narrative that is slowly revealed through a few of these conversations, the story is inconsequential and provides little added value. Navigating the large world is the main challenge, with the rest of the game being extremely easy. Combat essentially reduces to button-mashing, with a few choices of weapons but little skill involved. The levels do become increasingly populated with enemies as the size of the castle increases, but none of these are difficult when compared to classic or modern games in the same genre. The music also leaves much to be desired and at times even sounds like it was procedurally generated. If you do play this, then I suggest muting the game in favor of your own soundtrack. Replayability is limited, as by level 10 I was noticing rooms start to repeat or look similar. Once you get the hang of the game, it's a lather-rinse-repeat strategy to complete each level. I was unable to try multiplayer mode, as no public games were available the few times I checked. King Lucas provides an innovative twist on procedural exploration games, but in the end it fails to live up to its Platonic ideal. I only recommend this game if you're a dedicated roguelike player with a compulsion to collect every last one.

Unfortunately this game doesnt offer much for its price tagg. It may be randomly generated, but your fun factor will stay at the same low point each time you play.
Pros:
+ the music is fitting + the artstyle is neat + controller support + randomly generated + a variety of enemies and traps + kid-friendly humor + online multiplayer + finding the princess is a challenge + purchasable gear, like weapons, shields, potions
Cons:
- gameplay is too easy, good enough for small kids, but boring for anybody else - although its randomly generated, its going to feel like the same thing all over very soon - no local multiplayer, which would have been the better choice - online multiplayer is dead - way too overpriced - the gameplay stays the same, the map just gets bigger each time you find a princess, not much fun - no immunity after getting hit, means you can get comboed to death real quick - it doesnt feel rewarding, you get gold for completing a map, but have to spend it all on the next one..... - nothing to unlock except for Steam achievments Overall the game is not the worst plattformer, but its so shallow and not fun to play, that I would highly recommend buying something else. This game is in the same price point as other great titles like Shantae and UnEpic, which are far superior games.

The simplistic and shallow gameplay would be acceptable in a student project, but really isn't worth paying money for. You just wander from room to randomly arranged room until you find the princess, dealing with crappy combat and dull platforming along the way. Picking up a few coins to buy keys, health potions, and slightly less terrible weapons does not make this a Metroidvania either. Playing this multiplayer doesn't add much; the game plays almost identical to the single player, and there's no direct interaction with the other players. At most they'll kill a few enemies for you, or find the princess first, giving you the perfect excuse to stop playing.
