Did I objectively have a good time playing this game? I suppose in the long run I did, in the sense that playing this game with a friend made for certain kinds of fun. But the amount of bugs encountered made this game harder than it already was. Turn order issues, enemy hitboxes causing weird AP costs, ridiculous amounts of instant kill traps, and unclear quests made this game significantly more frustrating than it needed to be. A shame, since I think this large number AP system is the best between DOS1, DOS2, and BG3. Do I recommend? Yes, but understand that you need some mental fortitude to deal with some hard BS.

This is a pretty fun RPG. There's a lot of freedom in how you can build your characters/your party and combat has some interesting nuances. For example, you can light poison gas on fire to cause an explosion or electrify blood/water to stun enemies. This will also affect your party though (I inadvertently stunned my two melee characters a lot at the start of my playthrough).
Exploring the different areas in the game is really fun (although some parts have an absurd amount of traps). I didn't do all of the quests but I did do most of them. From what I could tell, a lot of them had multiple ways to finish them.
The story is OK. Since it's the same developer, it's kind of hard to not compare the story in this to Baldur's Gate 3. I found that story much more interesting than the story in this game. Some of the voice acting in this game can be kind of goofy/obnoxious too.
Two big issues I have with this game are the forced stealth part around the last 1/3 of the game. I had played for ~40 hours with zero need for stealth or skill points invested in stealth. I always think forced stealth is lame. There's also a few truly obnoxious puzzles in this game where you are scrolling the camera along the walls and trying to find a tiny button. I also thought the puzzle to get into the final dungeon was very obtuse.
Overall, I think this is a good game despite being a bit rough around the edges.

I played Div OS 2 first. This was a little annoying to get into after spending so many hours in the second game. 2 has much more customization and better targeting. I also like the combat in 2 better. However, the side quests, dialogue, and story were still 9/10. The combat was still an 8/10. Kind of wish I played this before 2.

Okay, after 30 hours, I think I've formed some impressions of this game.
In general, this is a solid RPG with turn-based tactics; I like this genre overall.
It's story-rich, the characters are highly customizable, and there are primary (Str/Int/Dex/etc.) and secondary (HP/AP/etc.) stats, classes, and perks. Potions, spells, crafting – all the "standard" classic features of RPGs are present.
The graphics are decent and not hardware-demanding. Full HD at ultra settings @ 60fps only loads my GPU by 35-40%, and my laptop remains relatively cool and silent.
The reason I don't recommend it is because it's not player-friendly. There are a lot of traps and ambushes; therefore, I often save/load, and I quicksave before any action... which isn't the ideal way to play, in my opinion. The quests lack hints; the player needs to blindly try and roam around – or read guides online to solve them.

I can't recommend this, even though it does well in a lot of areas, the gear system with the rarity mechanic and game economy is quite good, the world progression and difficulty is also well made, the way enemies scale is thought out unless you decide to go in areas you shouldn't be yet, there is a high variety of spells and builds and the best of all the game acknowledges your presence in the world through dialogue, not saying the dialogue itself is good, bc it is not, but there was a lot of effort into making sure your choice is seen and the world is somewhat responsive to it.
Now for the downsides, the story itself is weak, the dialogue ruins it plenty but even besides that, it throws so many extreme elements at you when you barely started that you have no way of caring about or even processing really
Another one is the point system, 2/5 trees are for non combat elements, like personality traits and crafting yet there is basically no real reason to ever put points into anything that doesn't make you stronger in fights unless you for some reason decide to hardcore roleplay?
With those flaws i still think its a good experience, especially that the game is 11y now, it would be worth experiencing, yet this thing ruined everything for me, the puzzles are just absurd, the game expects you to know exactly what to look for each time or you will be stuck, i believe that more than half of the 18% of players that reach the ending of the game did it through guides, you are forced to look up guides as about 1/4 of the quests are annoyingly difficult to figure out in a non fun way just based on what the game offer you.
I thought this was a safe buy due to positive reviews but now that i experienced it fully, considering that you're like me and you're interested in dos2 or bg3 but wanted to check the earlier game, i recommend you skip it.

I realize that coming to this game after playing Baldur's Gate 3 puts this RPG in a bad light, but I did my best to give it a chance. I ended up restarting a couple times because I had such analysis paralysis about the skills and ablities system. I think I would have preferred simpler classes to have each character belong to, but from what I could tell researching online, this game will punish you if you don't have points in the right range of abilities later on in the game. Meanwhile, other skills and abilities might be practically worthless. The pacing at the beginning is also painfully slow. The game hints that you shouldn't leave Cyseal until you've accomplished more there, but then there are few actual combat encounters, so I didn't feel like I was leveling up as I needed to, and the conversations with NPCs grew tiresome. I also felt little reason to care about the companions I picked up. I finally decided to throw in the towel when returning to the game felt like too much of a chore. I might have proceeded further, but other reviews confirmed for me that there would be many more types of annoyances in the game that I wasn't patient enough to waste my time with.

This is a wonderfully charming, tongue-in-cheek cRPG with a decently long campaign. Very replayable as the class system is incredibly flexible and designed for building unique characters. For me, the story is one of the less interesting aspects of the game. It's not terrible, and long time Divinity fans get some cool easter eggs to chew through, but you won't be replaying this for the epic plot and branching story unfortunately. On the bright side, this is such a fun game to build characters and have fun combat scenarios, especially with a friend or family member - although your mileage may vary depending on who you team up with.
I've been replaying it again with my sister and having a blast. If you ever get bored, saving and then rounding up a whole town into a combat thunderdome never gets old. The only real criticism I have is levelling charisma to any extent is borderline pointless due to the random rock-paper-scissors minigame that resolves persuasions. I understand its purpose for if two players disagree on what to do, but against NPCs I feel the system is lacking.
I really enjoy the environmental effects in combat such as blowing up oilfields with fire. It can trivialise combat at times, but generally is a fun mechanic and the game on a whole has great reactive systems. For example, the cheese vendor had been getting on my nerves so my sister suggested planting tenebrium (toxic ore) into their inventory and watching them rot from a (safe) distance... I think if you're sadistic enough you might be able to come up with some creative ways to kill enemies in this game. Or you know, those shopkeepers that won't shut up in Cyseal market.

Absolutely epic!!! Loved every minute of this adventure with the characters and world just constantly filled with content to explore. I played from BG3 in reverse so as expected there were less features but didnt make it any less exciting when it came to the story and combat. Really love what Larian does and cant wait for their next project. Highly recommend.

Doing the Puzzles in this game makes me wanna run my head through a wall. its like doing an entire cod zombies Easter egg. however either than this and the game not giving you any direction to go to hiberheim so you don't do a entire section of over-leveled enemies. the game is fun with good combat and a good story.
