The dev/publisher is greedy and has no interest in the game itself. Clearly the employees themselves do but the company as a whole very much does not. The DLC are overpriced, run with lots of pop-in, stutters, and low FPS on even high-end systems. Get it on a more than 50% sale, never pay full price for anything for this game.

Game is a buggy mess, even pricey new DLCs release with uncompletable scenarios. Most bugs are reported, almost any you come across have dovetail forums threads discussing it and yet nothing happens.

Definitely a huge upgrade from TSW5 in terms of texture quality and graphics in general. I recommend those who do not own a TSW game to buy this one even if the other one are on sale. But if you already have a TSW game, I don't think it's very financially efficient to buy this one.

Since the release of Running Train, I have stopped playing this. The amount of visual issues, bugs, crashes, etc. that I experience playing TSW6/5/4/3. The main issues are asset pop-in, lighting quality, blurry textures, the lack of DLSS/FSR, and fps stutters.
I'd originally chalked most of the issues up to the maps being long; however, after playing Running Train, I'm not really happy to accept that, especially from a full development studio.
I'll still occasionally play TSC as it feels/sounds better, but will not be spending any more on DLC for this game/sim.
The only real positive is the amount of DLC available; there aren't really any alternatives. The cost of the DLC is inflated compared to the quality of the engine it runs on.
On the whole, I'd recommend looking at RUNNING TRAIN instead of this, until things improve.

this might just be the worst train game ever made. there are 4 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ steam locomotives and that's it the British diesels aren't much better. it is the biggest pile of ♥♥♥♥ to ever be in stalled on my pc and I completely regret it. why TF can I not couple 2 class 20 the a rack of 12 carriages and it doesn't move. if you pass a red signal oh your run is over and if you forgot to save TOO BAD.

At it's core it is just the original TSW from years ago rebadged for another yearly release in an attempt at keeping it in the sales charts, it has the same bugs which DTG had promised for years to fix, it still has features promised years ago to be implemented, or implemented properly so they are actually usable. It is annoying because it would be an enjoyable game, mostly thanks to third party developers but Dovetail Games continually mislead people about the state of the game and now are closing down their active discussion forums to supress complaints.

Train Sim World COULD be one of the best train simulator, but it remains just a "could be" because the developers are overly profit driven and too lazy to exploit the simulator's true potential.
For many years, the game's performance optimization was terrible. While it finally runs well after all this time, it is a shame that we had to wait years for this, and even now, bugs still occur from time to time during gameplay.
But what is the biggest problem with Train Sim World?
1. Route Length
For me, the biggest issue and the reason why I dislike it and cannot recommend it to true rail sim fans is the fact that the routes are incredibly short. Quite often, lines end at random places rather than at major stations.
The best examples of this are the newest Metro-North: New York - Stamford route, which doesn't go all the way to New Haven and we have the Northeast Corridor: New York - Trenton which again, doesn't go to Philadelphia but only Trenton or the older Peninsula Corridor DLC, which runs from San Francisco to San Jose but doesn't extend to Gilroy, which is very very disappointing. It is pathetic that the developers don't finish actual, complete routes but simply cut them short, making it impossible to run a full service route.
I believe that after all these years, it's already time for us to get a full Northeast Corridor (NEC) line running all the way from Washington D.C. to Boston, instead of these short few-mile sections that can be completed in 40–50 minutes or even less (especially if you go with the Acela).
In short, it would be great to see 2–3 hour long (or even full 7h long NEC line) routes, rather than a few short miles that take less than an hour to finish. There are modern examples proving that long, hundreds of miles of tracks can be built on modern hardware, just look at SimRail!
Furthermore, Train Sim World has the potential to bring American passenger rail to life with full sized routes. While Run 8 focuses heavily on freight operations, Train Sim World could easily be the simulator that delivers US passenger rail services.
2. Rolling Stock
After route length, the second major problem is the rolling stock. By now, we do have a fair variety of trains and consist configurations, but it often still feels too boring, unrealistic or empty. All these current routes are need more rolling stocks!
After all these years, we still don't have an official GE P42 Genesis, GE P40DC, GE P32AC-DM, Siemens Charger, Shoreliner cars, Horizon cars, Surfliner and Superliner (the Superliner could operate with the P42 Genesis on the Sand Patch Grade route and on the Horseshoe Curve as a Amtrak passenger service) coaches, more Viewliner types, Amtrak SW1000R, GE Dash 8-32BWH, NRE 3GS-21B, HHP-8 and for classic locos: EMD F40PH, GE E60, EMD AEM-7 and Surfliner F59PHI.
I know it takes a lot of time to develop all of these, but they could at least include them as static 3D models. That alone would bring much more realism and life to the routes, preventing stations and yards from looking completely deserted.
It is a massive shame that the game's true potential is being wasted, because it could be an excellent train simulator. With these short routes and the lack of rolling stock, the whole thing feels like a kind of tech demo. It is truly pathetic, considering this simulator has been in development for years already.
Wish one day this game will be much better because it has a huge potential!

Rating: 1/10 — and the entire point goes to one baffling decision: NO CLOUD SAVES.
It's 2026. Steam Cloud is free for the developer and takes an afternoon to wire up. Dovetail didn't bother. Your entire profile and all your savegames live as local files and nothing else. No backup, no sync, no safety net.
I reinstalled the game on a different drive — a completely normal thing to do — and my whole profile was gone. Wiped. I assumed cloud saves had me covered, like literally every other game on this platform. They don't exist here.
And before anyone says "but Dovetail Live!" — no. Their account system only stores your logbook, mastery and which DLC you own. It does NOT store your actual save. So they built their own backend specifically as an excuse not to use Steam Cloud, and that backend doesn't even do the one thing cloud saves are for: protecting your progress.
Players have been begging for this across TSW 2020, 3, 4, 5 and now 6. Years of requests. Dovetail has never even explained why they refuse. They just don't care.
The trains are fine. The contempt for your time is not. One reinstall and dozens of hours are gone forever, by design. Hard pass until they add cloud saves.
