The only Mario Kart spin-off I'll play and give a good rating. Too funny not to.

"Garfield Kart" is a poor rendition of the racing game hype that Mario Kart brought back in the 80's. I bought this on sale for 3.73 euros along with "Garfield Kart: Furious Racing" . Hope that will be good.

This game has a keyboard hardware issue. It has a limit on how many keys you can press, for some combinations of keys. This means you can accelerate while drifting right, but not left. You can solve this by letting go of the accelerate button to drift left, but it can be confusing to do that while focusing on the race. Just keep in mind to only have two keys pressed at any one time.
This game works almost fine with a controller, but you may want to configure the controls or turn on steam input.
Otherwise, this is a very simple Mario Kart-style game. You can unlock characters and customise your vehicle with spoilers to performance tune it; the maps are very small but fit within the world of Garfield and there are random abilities you can unlock throughout the race that allow you to slow your opponents and give yourself a boost.
This game is perfect for young children who want to have fun on the computer. I put a thumbs down because it was annoying to work out how the broken controls work.

I liked this game but I almost always get an issue where the game softlocks while getting my reward after a grand prix or time trial. But if this doesn't happen to you, then I would recommend it

yeah... nah. don't buy this game if you enjoyed Garfield Kart: Furious Racing, because it is like that game, if it was made in a cave, with sticks and rocks, in two days. if you enjoy having fun, don't purchase this game. if you enjoy having friends, don't purchase this game. if you enjoy life, don't purchase this game. my life was forever worse after experiencing this game. i will never be the same.

Garfield Kart: 40 Hours in 3 Days
I was challenged by my one of my good friends to play 40 hours of Garfield Kart in 3 days. In return I would receive $50, get to watch all Garfield movies with him, and a “special surprise” (which he revealed later to be Pokemon cards). Most people would turn this offer down because it was “insane” or “inhumane”, but I’m different. As an unemployed student going into his first year of college, a Garfield fan, and bored, I thought this would be a great opportunity to make roughly 10% of minimum wage for every hour I played Garfield kart. I want you as the reader to keep one question in mind: Why does Garfield Kart? I will use my experience to try to explain this question at the end of my review.
First I’d like to talk about the gameplay. This past month has been a very good time in my life, I’ve had an abundance of free time, and I’ve spent roughly 70 hours playing Mario Kart World with friends and family. Mario Kart World is one of, if not my favorite racing game ever. To go from Mario Kart World to Garfield Kart is like eating the most delicious homemade lasagna you’ve ever eaten, to eating an aluminum lasagna pan. The game feels straight up bad to control. After the 40 hours I started to get used to it but it never felt enjoyable to play. The drifting works slightly different from Mario Kart which tripped me up many times, but that may not be an issue for everyone. The tracks are very boring as well. They are very bare, and they all feel very generic, and surprisingly don’t reference the source material very much. These tracks could pass as tracks in any other cheap clunky kart racer, and no one would notice because they are just so generic. The items for the most part are uncreative and similar to Mario Kart. Lasagna is a mushroom, pies are shells, perfume is a star, ufos are the blue shell, the spring is a feather, the gem is a banana, and the pillow is lightning. I will give credit to the one unique item, being the magic wand. You throw it forward like a shell, but if you hit a racer with it you swap places with them. For a game with very little creative ideas this was refreshing to find. A big criticism I have of the items and pretty much everything in this game in general is the very janky hit boxes. Some examples include driving in between item boxes when the car clearly makes contact with them, running into walls and items which are clearly several feet from them, and being hit by literally nothing in the middle of the road. Garfield Kart is clearly a very poorly programmed game and makes that very clear to anyone who plays it.
Next I’d like to talk about the UI and design. The UI seems like it was made for a mobile game which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but for this game it is very annoying. I played this game with a controller which made my gameplay experience much more infuriating, because any time I reached any kind of menu I’d have to put my controller down, go to my mouse, click on what I needed to, then go back to my controller. This became especially annoying when doing time trials. During time trials you have to reset often for not having an optimal route, and going back and forth between controller and mouse became very tedious and made it harder to enjoy the game. The UI itself isn’t the most responsive or smartly designed either. It is generic and pretty bare bones, not helping the already bad graphics of the game. It also doesn’t help that sometimes the game crashes after a time trials and you lose your time because the UI glitches. I want to clarify before I make my next point that I have a VERY capable PC, that has run some very intensive game at max graphics settings perfectly fine. I think it’s a real testament to how poorly optimized this game is that despite how strong my PC is that the game would go have a black screen anytime I tried to play the game with anything above medium graphics settings. But even medium graphics settings is too much for the game. On certain points in levels I’d notice game dip down to 10 FPS on certain turns, so I decided to play on very low graphics, which also had its hiccups every now and then. Something else I found to be very strange was how happy all the characters are, especially Garfield. It’s very weird to me the characters don’t reflect their personalities very well, and just how inaccurate it feels. I hate that Garfield is smiling in this game because the only one not happy in this game is me. It feels weird that Garfield isn’t complaining about Mondays or waking up in the morning. He is WAY too happy, it’s not right. The game betrays its source material, and betrays me as a fan.
Now I’d like to talk a little bit of how I was able to play 40 hours of Garfield Kart in 3 days. I started making a schedule a few days before I started the challenge, and knew I’d have to make room for plans I had already made with friends on 7/18. Those plans made it so I had to spend pretty much every other hour in that day playing Garfield kart, and couldn’t have as many breaks as I would’ve liked. The schedule gave me a rough estimate of when I would need to play. It isn’t entirely accurate to when I played but it was very helpful and without it I would have definitely lost track of time. Here is the schedule:
7/17: 15 Hours
12am-4am Garfield (4 hours)
4am-9am (sleep)
9am-10am (break)
10am-1pm (3 hours)
1pm-2pm (break)
2pm-4:00pm (2 hours)
4:00pm-6:00 (break)
6pm-12am garfield (6 hours)
7/18: 10 hours
12am-8am (break)
8am-11am (3 hours)
11am-5pm (break)
5pm-12am (7 hours)
7/19: 15 hours
12am-1am (1 hour)
1am-7am (break)
7am-1pm (6 hours)
1pm-2pm (break)
2pm-6pm Garfield (4 hours)
6pm-7pm (break)
7pm-11pm (4 hours)
Now I want to reflect on my achievements and what I learned from the experience. I completed every Grand Prix on all CCs with gold medals, got at least gold medals on all time trials and 4 platinum medals, unlocked all characters, most karts and spoilers, and found all puzzle pieces. This experience taught me many things. I learned to be more appreciative of free time, and the importance of enjoying it. This challenge gave me very little free time and made me do something I didn’t enjoy for the vast majority of the 3 days, which has given me a stronger desire to find a career that I can enjoy, so I’m not stuck wishing I were doing something else all day.
Now I’d like to answer the question I proposed at the start of this review, why does Garfield Kart? I noted earlier that Garfield always had a smile on his face, even when he was losing or being hit with items. Was he truly happy or was he putting on an act? I believe it’s something a little different, because we both felt the same way. Garfield was surrounded by the support of his friends and family during every race, and knew that despite the danger of racing and the mental and physical pain he would have to endure, he knew he had people (and animals) who were there for him through every race. I felt the same way, I had people who supported me through the whole challenge, encouraged me, made me laugh, and made sure that I was okay. Despite this challenge being tedious and soul draining, I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel and that my friends were there for me. Garfield and I were able to hold a smile through the pain even at our lowest points, because we knew we had the support to carry on. This challenge has been a lesson for me and taught me that even during the hardest times in my life I have people I can turn to for help. Garfield Karts because he knows he has the support and ability to do anything if he puts his mind to it, and knows that giving up is the never an option if he wants to succeed. Thank you for everyone who sat in discord calls for hours listening to me complain about this game, and making my time playing much more enjoyable. You guys are the one who made this possible, thank you :)

Why buy Mario Kart World for $80 when you can get this masterpiece for $5?
Also the $75 leftover allowed me to buy some extra wheat 🌾
