I still don't understand how to play and I'm okay with that.

Very fun game that I've played both solo and with friends multiple times. It goes pretty far into the game and theres even stock trading as well as other fun features you wouldnt expect. The only issue I've had with this game in the past is that sometimes the multiplayer games can get somewhat corrupted by the time you get to the later game (unsure why). Besides that, lots of fun.

Everything in the game is great and once you figure out the game, getting to 1 Billion is simple and really fun even after a couple of years of playing.

Couldn't even get a game started. On my screen size, 3840x2160, some buttons are off-screen and inaccessible.
Attempting to select an icon partially locked up the UI and turned the window dark.
Looks like a fun game, but needs more time to cook.
Refunded after 6 minutes.

Software Inc. on Steam is a compelling and intricate simulation game that invites players to build and manage their own software company from the ground up. Developed by Coredumping, this indie title offers a deep management experience, blending aspects of business simulation, architectural design, and people management into a highly customizable and addictive gameplay loop. What starts as a solo developer in a makeshift garage quickly expands into a sprawling corporate empire, provided the player can master the game’s layered systems and stay ahead of the rapidly evolving tech industry.
At the heart of Software Inc. is a robust simulation engine that governs everything from employee behavior to market dynamics. Players must juggle development timelines, manage staff morale, respond to economic shifts, and keep up with hardware and software trends. Projects can range from simple 2D graphics tools to massive operating systems, games, and even digital distribution platforms. Each project comes with its own complexity, timeline, and requirements, demanding long-term planning and an understanding of market demands. The freedom to choose which niches to dominate and how to specialize keeps the gameplay open-ended, encouraging experimentation and replayability.
One of the game’s standout features is its detailed office design system. Unlike many tycoon-style games that use abstracted building mechanics, Software Inc. allows players to design every aspect of their workplace, down to furniture placement, lighting, HVAC systems, and acoustics. This isn’t just cosmetic—well-designed spaces improve productivity and employee happiness, while poorly constructed offices can lead to inefficiency and workplace dissatisfaction. It adds a surprising layer of realism and immersion, making the player feel like both a CEO and an architect, responsible for crafting an environment conducive to creative and technical success.
The employee simulation is another area where the game shines. Each worker comes with individual stats, personalities, specialties, and needs. Hiring the right team, training them over time, and managing team dynamics becomes a strategic challenge in itself. Leaders can be promoted from within, and eventually, departments form, making HR and hierarchy management critical to scaling effectively. Personality conflicts, burnout, and underperformance can all derail a successful operation if not handled carefully. This depth creates emotional investment in your team, turning what could have been faceless units into valued contributors with careers you actively shape.
From a technical standpoint, Software Inc. is still in early access, but it's remarkably stable and polished considering its complexity. The user interface is detailed, though it can feel overwhelming at first due to the sheer volume of options and data. However, after a modest learning curve, everything becomes intuitive. Regular updates from the developer continue to improve mechanics and add features, and the modding community is strong, offering everything from new building assets to rebalanced economic systems. The developer's transparency and responsiveness have helped cultivate a dedicated fan base, contributing to the game’s ongoing evolution.
Graphically, the game uses a clean, low-poly style that emphasizes clarity over detail. While it won’t win awards for visual fidelity, its aesthetic serves the gameplay well, making it easy to track employees, office setups, and development progress. The day-night cycle and weather effects add a nice touch of atmosphere. Sound design is minimalistic but functional, with ambient office noises and subtle cues that help communicate game events without overwhelming the player.
In conclusion, Software Inc. is an exceptional simulation game for those who enjoy systems-heavy management experiences. It successfully combines software development, corporate strategy, and architectural design into a rich sandbox filled with meaningful choices and strategic depth. Whether you want to run a boutique indie studio or dominate the tech world with monopolistic force, the game offers the tools and freedom to realize that vision. While it still has room to grow as it progresses through early access, its current form is already deep, satisfying, and endlessly replayable. For fans of simulation and business management games, Software Inc. is a must-play that continues to evolve with care and ambition.

Played for over 400 hours. The game is great. Flexible. Many different ways to play and scratch the itch. I have never reached endgame (post 20-30 years in-game) because I always feel like fixing something in the next run.
Early game can maybe do with some improvement, early bootstraping. Beyond that, no complain.

If you are the type of person who likes tycoon games, this is the game for you. Even though its in erly access now, it is worth the asking price, and could be even better with a few more improvements.
My first impression of the game was "feature creep" after playing the game for a while you will realize this is not the case, and all the features are decently desined, but not always super apperent why you need them.
For example: Fire codes. Every once in a while a fire inspector will come and fine you if your building isnt to code. at first I wasnt even sure a fire could happen, then my entire production line burnt down wich happened to be on the same building as my servers, and because my servers burnt down my hosting deals stop being fulfilled meaning my company rating when from 6 to 2, and my online subscription game (at the time making nearly $50 MILLION a month) no longer generated revenue, and my digital distributino platform halted destroying its replayability rating and cause a bunch of companys to stop signing it.
Despite this being a huge setback, I actually found it really boosted my playtime. The game can get a little repetetative, but this setback had thrown a wrench I wasnt expecting and it was the perfect setback to have.
This is where a suggestion comes in, have more "drama" in real life, game companys go through tons of drama, have other companys investing into yours be a bigger deal than it is, have popups of employees going through issues the player has to solve.
Some suggestions:
-Please let me suspend delivery drivers, I don't always need a ton but every time I fire and rehire them I have to manually set the schedule again.
-Building rooms is fine, designing the actual buildings is kind of weird. Especially around curved walls and putting windows on the curved walls.
-My company should be allowed to make deals to outsource development and stuff to other companys like they can outsource to me.
-Subsidiarys seem undercooked, the game tells me they dont have the capacity for more projects but doesnt give a way to increase it? And I cant meaningfully manage the products they take? otherwise I like concept alot.

This game is awesome. Simply no other way to put it, but I'll try.
Deep simulation, rich game mechanics, windows galore, stock manipulation, subsidiary's, lawsuits, sandbox, and so much more!
