I want to like survival games like this, but I think some game design choices get in the way of having more fun starting out. Unlocking the buggy to make travel more efficient should come sooner in your run. The ability to travel between planets is such a lovely addition especially as you can only harvest specific resources from specific worlds. Art direction is wonderful and the ability to deform the terrain is fantastic as you can rarely get stuck. I wish the UI and controls were not as fiddly and complex -- navigating your backpack is a nightmare on keyboard or controller. Fun, relaxing, cute, strong art direction and its performance is lovely. Just didn't get me addicted like a survival game should, but maybe its better with co-op as the solo experience is miserable.

Enter.

I've played this quite a bit across other platforms, and this, but not in a very long time. I won't play it again until the vehicle/terrain bug is fixed (which it's not, people reported it last month)
You can spend dozens of hours on the game, and your rover/buggy can sink thru completely solid ground, never to be seen again. Kind of a major glitch when the whole gist of the game is resource gathering, and this bug can make you lose a buggy loaded w/ 3 or 4 cars and all kinds of resources, tools, etc.
Would rather play this than Satisfactory (because this is simple/not as involved) but after the 3rd or 4th game where this happened, I was done.

Bro I came back after 5 years and the game has barely changed.
Picking up items is such a pain in the ass, no ctrl+click means you need to click twice to put it into inventory
Levelling terrain is janky and often not flat in comparison to the surroundings
Placing pylons, why can't I hold it down like in factorio?
All these years and the player experience is still poor, yikes

This game has very bad bug issues. It needs major work but the company is too busy with DLCs to fix the base game.

It's like a space version of Minecraft but with NO BLOCKS. Crafting is simple and easy. Gathering minerals is even easier. This game is about adventuring, building and finding the center of each planet, with very few hazards. Very fun and easy to play.

Honestly torn about how to say this. I love the history of Astroneer, but I disagree where it has ended up.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid. On another account I am personally responsible for around 700 hours in this game, and I absolutely loved it.
Maybe it was something about mining oxygen or power right as you were about to die.
Maybe it was something about devising a new plan to save your rover so it didn't fall to the core of the planet.
Maybe it was the "spiky balls of death" (thanks KurtJMac) on Arid that made living there nearly impossible but super rewarding.
Maybe it was the constant stream of updates straight from devs who actually made good their promises on a roadmap (those were the days weren't they).
Whatever it was, I loved Astroneer and still enjoy it today. However, the game in its current state is not as fun as it was then. The game is much much easier than it used to be, and the devs chose to take it a different direction than I felt it should have, and that is okay.
Regardless of your opinion on Astroneer, and despite all the changes that have been made, and despite the whole "in-game purchases" argument that has been made, this has been one of the most enjoyable indie games I've played. And for making my childhood a little more enjoyable, I cannot thank the devs enough.
But seriously, please please please bring back challenges like STORMS :)

Astroneer is such a fun game, despite some technical problems, it's a unique experience and can be played coop.
I would absolutely recommend it!
