This game is frustrating. I honestly didn't enjoy it at all. Also if you're an achievement hunter, make sure you get the DLC too or you'll be stuck at 50% achievements. I finished the game but I seriously feel like that was 3 hours of my life I can't get back.

DNF and probably never will
There is a puzzle in The Hare in the Hat wherein you switch pieces of a puzzle around on a board made of switches which control sets of four pieces that intersect with a neighbouring switch and four attached pieces and so on (12 switches in total iirc). You shuffle around the pieces until all pieces slot into place. It is ridiculously time consuming. It's not a 'puzzle' per se, more like a thing we can all see what the solution is from the moment we first lay eyes on it, but getting the thing to all line up is ridiculously difficult and not fun. It's absolutely not a puzzle as there is nothing to figure out. The problem is that if you cannot complete the puzzle the game cannot be progresed through. This 'puzzle' took me 4 tries. The last attempt was successful but took 88 minutes - on just the one puzzle, using extreme help (two people plus video walkthroughs and a Steam thread with a mathematical formula). I've logged over 6 hours in this game - most of that was for that one puzzle.
This is one of those games where to 'solve' the 'puzzles' you have to telepathically figure out what the dev was thinking at the moment they were making the game, theres nothing about deduction or logic here. Not fun. It looks good and runs smoothly but that's about it for the positives. And theres a 'skip puzzle' button, but using it will disable achievements (you get a huge warning first). I don't think I've ever played a puzzle game where you can't skip or get a hint.
This will be the first game I give a thumbs down to. Don't buy this. Not even on sale. Not unless you hate yourself.
Don't get me wrong. In my spare time I like to do extremely boring things like calculate orbital trajectories and escape velocitites for other planets and asteroids. I have a huge collection of very expensive wooden mastercrafted puzzles and brain teasers. I love a challenge and I can math pretty well. Hare in the Hat honestly feels like the dev took a bunch of puzzle formats and set them to 'lets just make it as near impossible as is possible'.
My rating: not worth the hair the hare sheds in that there cage it's trapped in.

Hare In The Hat is your basic point and click game that takes place in one room. I played both the main game and the Abyss DLC, and I've finished both minus one puzzle in the Abyss.
Pros:
- It's cheap(ish)
- The idea is simple, solve these puzzles in this one room to free the hare
Cons:
- The music kept restarting at weird points. After the first play, it would stop for minutes then start back up randomly. I didn't like that
- This game suffers from the this-puzzle-makes-no-sense virus that several other similar games are victim of
- A select couple of puzzles in both the main and the Abyss are just too hard! The sliding like puzzle in the main game where you rotate the tiles was uncool, but I managed to solve it. The Hungarian rings puzzle in the Abyss was simply torture. I can't understand why the developer thought that was a good idea. If a puzzle is so complex that there are articles about how it relates to cryptography, then that puzzle is too hard for a video game.
I didn't feel much enjoyment or happiness playing through this game, nor did I feel enjoyment when I freed the hare twice. I got both games on a good sale, but I'm still unsure whether or not I can recommend them.
There are no jump scares.

I liked the game right up until the swapping puzzle. The swapping puzzle honestly more then anything is just boring annoying and long. To the point where the game becomes more of a chore then a game. If you are one of the people who loikes swapping puzzles then maybe this is for you, but for me it's my most hated puzzle type. And the fact that in this game it's what stops stone cold from moving on is just meh. I played around for a while until the 2 final pieces just wouldn't get into place. Being the stubborn old me I got out a notepad and figured out a solution on paper, but by then I was so turned off from playing and felt like I was doing homework instead, so I just turned of the game. No thanks. That one single puzzle is the turn off. Again maybe it's just me personally because I hate swapping puzzles with a passion. They are long and annoying. If you don't know what a swapping puzzle is i suggest going online and playing a free game that just has swapping puzzles, see if you like it and then come back and purchase this if you do. If you are not a fan like me then this is deffinetly not the game for you. I think the reason the puzzle didn't fit the game so badly for me and took me right out of it is because the rest of the game is much faster paced. Click and drag mostly, up till that single puzzle. And then suddenly game becomes homework.

There is nothing wrong with the art, sound, or premise of this game, but it is extremely buggy for me. Both on my previous and my new laptop, the game crashes every couple of minutes, making the game fairly unplayable. There has been no official reply or feedback on the issue which several people have mentioned in the forums. Although the game does autosave nicely, meaning no lost progress when there's a crash, the sheer frequency of crashing still makes the game frustrating and unplayable.
There is also a lack of a skip button, which would've been helpful as the game crashed repeatedly during one of the puzzles, and there was a point where I would've liked to just skip over it and progress onwards. A skip feature is sometimes considered a cheat and not all games offer it, but where there are seriously gameplay and stability issues, it would have made it more bearable.
So all said, this game gets filed under "Meh" and will not be touched again unless there is significant updating and/or bugfixing. The game was cheap, so I don't feel overly cheated, but I certainly won't support this developer any more unless there's a dramatic increase in stability. But there are also people who haven't had the same issues with it, so you could always roll the dice and see if you're one of the people that CAN play it, because it IS a good puzzle game aside from the technical errors.
A Prison For The Hare, Or A Prison For The User?
The only story you get in this game is at the very beginning which if we're being honest is more of a concept than a story at all. To call it a story is a little insulting to actual stories. So if you're looking for any story whatsoever you won't find that here. The concept sets up the theme, because that's all it is extremely played out or obscure puzzles with a theme. That's also where it fails. It feels like a class project or something, as if the developer is showcasing what they can do without really making anything. It has more of a concept than a story, it has a coherent theme laid out by the concept and the art is more than fine. The puzzles are cringe worthy though.
As far as gameplay goes imagine someone took a pretty HOG game and gutted it leaving only the puzzles and some of the pointless busy work using objects to advance. Another way to put it I suppose if you're familiar with puzzle boxes, is that it feels like you're doing a poorly made puzzle box from the inside out. It takes unguided item using progression (commonly seen in HOGs), and also the kind of "time filler" puzzles. Basically annoying puzzles meant to be challenging but aren't and are annoying since all HOGs use the same ones essentially. Then it takes some more obscure puzzles that I rarely see in HOGs since they're more annoying than anything, along with some obscure puzzles I don't think I've seen before. You have to deal with all of these things with no guidance whatsoever.
So I suppose my problem is if I wanted HOG type gameplay I'd play a fully developed HOG. If I wanted a story I wouldn't find it here, and if I wanted a puzzle game I'd pick a different one since this is the worst I've played. I have much better strictly puzzle games. As I've said before this feels more like a showcase of capability than it does a real game.
I'm not even going to bring up the situation about the developer and the achievement fiasco which also rubs me the wrong way, but whatever.
Pros:
+Cute theme
+Good Art
Cons:
-No Story
-Completely Unguided Play
-Questionable save system
- feels more like a showcase of applicable skill than a game

This game was included in a sale bundle and while short it didn't lack a bit of sense of humor and enjoyment.
Puzzles are fairly to moderately easy though I admit I got stuck at one of the puzzles (won't mention as to not spoil it) but I have played similar puzzles like this so I know that particular one was going to leave me scratching my head.
I might have gotten it ( as I only had two pieces to place to win) but if I'm stuck for a long time I tend to want to skip and move on so I did.
I enjoyed the simple graphics, it reminded me of a children's illustrated book and that isn't a bad thing as the illustrations weren't without some whimsy. over all the game gave me a sense of a sort of alice in wonderland feel.
If you do play this game don't expect some story or narration to the game. there is music though I listened a few minutes to hear what music went with the game but it does get repetitive and it's fine to just turn it off to play.
It's a simple premise, one room and within that room there are puzzles for you to find and then figure out.
The goal is to free the Hare thus saving the day (ok I added that last part.).
I finished this game probably in about an hour though you can add on the extra time to leaving the game on while I either went to seek out some help on a puzzle or how to move forward if I got stuck to just taking a lil break so let's say game was played and finished in just a little over an hour.
So don't expect it to be like a usual puzzle game ( or hog/adventure type game). It's all puzzles with one goal....find and free the rabbit.
It's a nice little indie game.
This included the DLC which is another installment called The Abyss.
so if your curious and want something to distract you for an hour or so I"d either buy it with the bundle to get some other games or I believe you can purchase separately and it's only 49 cents for each one.
so for $1.00 usd you can't go wrong for a little bit of fun to distract you while on a coffee break at work, studies or what have you.
Cheers :)
note: correction, both were part of the bundle (which came with 6 other games). the two Hare games cost me .29 cents each. If you want to purchase them on their own they are only .49 cents. no idea if this is limited time sale but nuff said. bargin for a wee game like this.
haven't played the dlc one yet.

Hare In The Hat is a game where you solve cleverly thought out puzzles to free a hare from his cage. The puzzles are definitely challenging and requires a lot of thinking which makes it fun. There are some insanely difficult puzzles that tests your ability. Recommended if you are up for some challenge.

It's a very short game with about 15 puzzles (finished in ~90min). There's no indication of where to start or what to do next but that don't really matter since everything happens in one room. Just click around and see what happens.
Some puzzles are very easy and some are hard but not impossible to do. Some of the clues (click on a question mark) don't really make sense and despite knowing what to do you can still get stuck. Again, no puzzle is impossible. Just slightly frustrating.
I got this game on sale today because it was cheap, I was in the mood for puzzles and new achievements. I haven't done the "cheater" achievement yet (EDIT: I have now), luckily I read about it in the forum (after getting the game, though :P ) before playing. The game is cheap, I got it on sale and hopefully the DLC will be cheap too but without any future "punishments" from the "developer" because I like 100% achievements in my games. I won't refund though, because it's not actually a bad game (as in filled with bugs, stuttering, doesn't really work etc). If you like puzzles and don't really care about achievements (or a story) then this is a good game to spend an hour on.
I give this a thumb down mostly because of the annoying (and unnecessary) "cheater" achievement but also because of the shortness of the game, the lack of story and lack of proper clues/instructions. The puzzles themselves were, for the most part, good but not enough to give this a thumb up.
(Edited by removing a section and changing/adding some words. My opinion has not changed. This is a mediocre game. Strangely enough, I never encountered any of the bugs or chrashes mentioned by other reviewers.)

Hare in the Hat. Objective release the hare from his cage freeing him from the magician.
What a tough little puzzle game this is. I truly enjoyed the challenge. Everything occurs in a single room much like Please, Don't Touch Anything occurs on a single console. A little point and click and a lot of puzzles: picture puzzles, sliders, and logic. Excellent game.
Warning: Skipping a puzzle results in permenantly locked achievements and I will not get into the debate over the developers' personal opinion about the fact they consider skipping a puzzle cheating. As of April 29, 2016 with the purchase of DLC Hare in the Hat: The Abyss this permenantly locked condition is released. Reset game and try again for the achievements.
The slider picture puzzle is Hell. But I figured it out eventually (after several hours). I earned the SHUFFLE achievement. HINT: Use the center top or center bottom of the puzzle, not the sides or the middle to complete. I used the center top, and two 'diamonds'. It was the only place I could find to reverse those last two tiles.
On April 29 2016 the DLC Hare in the Hat: The Abyss was added. Objective: Free the hare from the confines of his underwater containment.
Not as hard as the first game and focuses solely on the mini-games and puzzles. Still a challenge though. Puzzles include sliders, matching, brain teasers and basic logic.
Puzzle from HELL this time is called Hungarian Rings. Basically put the colors in the correct place in two interlocking movable rings. I skipped it after an hour and the beginnings of migraine. Did not lock the achievements for the other puzzles but no achievement for that puzzle since I skipped. I can live with that.
Recommend this add-on. It is just as fun and challenging as the first game.
Update: Because I could not live with it after all and am one of those:
Hare in the Hat DLC Abyss - Unlocked Jan 30 2018 @ 2:28pm - Abyss: Hungarian Rings - Solved Hungarian Rings puzzle (I really worked for this and definitely earned it. Achievement now resides on my Achievement Showcase)
